Title: DAVID EVANS ON RIGHTS AND WRONGS
Post by: Reginald Hudlin on June 10, 2012, 09:02:40 am
DAVID EVANS:

Reggie,

Recently someone quoted from Chief Justice of the U. S. Supreme Court Roger Brooke Taney’s words in the Dred Scott Decision “… they [African Americans] had no rights which the white man was bound to respect,” and, as in the 1970s, I added the old rural Arkansas retort, “He who refuses to respect my rights should perhaps be made to dread my wrongs,” and the retort was considered “too militant” by certain folk (smile).  Oh well, “… plus ça change, plus c'est la même chose…“

Reminds me a little bit of the criticism when a certain president responds to attacks by his challenger (smile).

Best regards,

Dave

Errrrr ... May come as a surprise to some, but my calendar shows the present year to be 2012, not 1857.   ::)

HAHAHAHAHAHAHA! Good one, Battle.
(Just remember, after Dumbo was pushed over the edge and plummeted, he flewwwwww skyward!)

(Oh, and Curtis, I do get your message and can only imagine the smile on your face as you were writing it. ;) Particularly phrased that way, I do hear what you are saying. But when I heard the phrase ... well ... I just couldn't resist, haha).

That's only because Dumbo was carrying the magic feather.  The political opposition has no idea what the magic feather is...   ...or where to get it! ;)

Ha (love that graphic).

But ... Battle ... don't you remember ... at the end of the film, he learned that the "magic" in the feather was just made up, phony, and that he didn't need it to fly. He could fly on his own. That was the message.

Well, there you have it...

That's the difference between fiction and reality. The political opposition is gonna need quite a few magic feathers to fly. I doubt that they could make that elephant fly on its own.

Anyone in the political opposition who thinks its elephant can fly on its own should be called DUMBO!

That's why they called him DUMBO!

...but that's not why he was called Dumbo.
He was called Dumbo by the other gossip mongering elephant snobs because of his big ears when he was a baby.

The point I was making in this thread is that regardless of partisanship, the Dumbo story contains some whimsical elements to the Dred Scott Decision, which was the catalyst that allowed Lincoln to win the presidential election in 1860 and at the same time, there are some similarities  as to what's happening in this year's election cycle.
