Title: Stomp the Yard
Post by: masigl4179 on January 15, 2007, 02:31:43 pm
I just saw Stomp the Yard today, and I enjoyed it. I never pledged fraternity, but I did go to school in Atlanta, in the AUC(Atlanta University Center) so the movie brought back a lot of memories. I'm happy to hear that it was the number one movie of the weekend, even though it was averaging C reviews from mostly white movie critics because it was too similar to Drumline, or the plot was fish out of water story. Man, the brothers at Rain Forest Films/Productions have a come a long way from when they first made Trois back in 2000. Also, I found it odd that most of the official reviews I read seemed to have the writer  explaining exactly what stepping is, because in my mind how you can you adaquately review something(i.e. a movie about stepping) for the masses if you don't really know what it is or have an understanding of it. In any event, I have noticed the new trend of movies coming out  like Stomp the Yard, RollBounce before it, You got Served before it, and Drumline before it, but I don't necessarily think it's a bad thing because it paints an fascinating picture of some interesting aspects of African-American Culture and community. What do you guys think... you agree or disagree?
