Title: Black Bolt
Post by: CvilleWakandan on May 08, 2017, 12:10:41 pm
Anyone read Black Bolt #1? Looks like an interesting story considering I do not keep up with any Inhuman stories. I feel the introduction set you up not to have read any. Just need a general idea.

Could this be another example of proper deconstruction?

naw this isn't deconstruction really. At least not yet.

Depowered perhaps (and it is definitely temporary as none of the inmates have powers) but I wouldn't call it deconstruction IMO. If anything, because he can talk a lot more, it will lead to getting to know black bolt a lot more than we ever had.

im not sure if that is a good thing or not though

I read it and I like it. Very interested in seeing where they go with this.

Another great issue.

Crusher is a fun "partner" in this book.

tHis could get very interesting.

Has to end with BB getting his voice back at the very end and blowing up the prison, no?

I liked it. Jailer tactic reminded me of Baal from Stargate SG-1

this book is just sooooooooooo good

WOW!!!!! What an issue. If you're going to sit around talking without action, that is how you do it.

If there are comic awards, issue 4 deserves a nomination.

Yep

Interesting discussion showing the flaws and emotions in two characters that have nothing in common whatsoever except that there both going to slowly suffocate

Black bolt gonna come back with a vengeance tho

I was really apprehensive about this book to start but its been just awesome all around

This book is so good and pretty that it may be worthy for me to purchase in paper form when the trade comes out.

This issue killed it once again.

Really nic eto see someone realize that Black Bolt =/= Banshee. His powers are MUCH more complex and powerful

Killed it for sure!! They are also using bright colors similar to Nick Fury. Makes everything pop against the darker backgrounds.

Is thus guy writing anything else?

Title: Re: Black Bolt
Post by: MindofShadow on September 10, 2017, 09:08:29 am
Nope, he isn't a comic guy. He's a sci fi and fantasy writer. short stories and novels. this is his first comic.

Why can't black panther at least get a new guy with a fiction, sci fi fantasy short story background lol.

What interesting is... dude REALLY did his homework because he is pulling continuity nuggets all over the place. And he is the first person to get Black Bolt's powers right in years. He is much more than "scream loud and fly" lol

I will 100% add this to my physical trade collect. I don't buy many.

I'm just gonna wait to ee if the second arc is as good as the first so I can just buy a collected edition.

I imagine this has 6 more issue at a maximum.

OK, why?

I took a look at the last issue but couldn't follow the art, glancing through it.  What makes this worth but as a tpb?

Its some of the best writing this year. Especially #4.
Title: Re: Black Bolt

I think the premise is intersting as hell. BB sent to the place he meant ti send maximus, and it's worse than anyone imagined

Pairing an ultra powerful, king of a super proud and power race of people with criminals was genius

Creed us great and the bb creed pairing was dynsmite.

It actually humanized black bolt tge right way, not by turning him into a neutered failure. His only friend was a teleporting dog for most his life for basts sake

BB forgotten powers were in full display

Art was unique and really fit the story. Definitely out there but not big standard boring like a lot of books are.

Jmo of course. Im a black bolt fan tho

Good start to the next arc. This guy knows how to craft a story.

man, the rejected hug.. right in the feels.

Sign of a great writer though... he is already giving the next writer an "out" to repower Black Bolt as soon as they want. Either by the healing guy or by BB healing his "mind."

give this guy some more books!

I didn't even know he had an adult son. Next issue is going to be emotional or fun. Hopefully both. lol

Tearful goodbye. Hope he gets more work on a more popular title.

My LCS owner got around to reading it and she loves it.

More breakout writer praise. He made number 1.

"I have to make a personal confession before we begin talking about how much ass Saladin Ahmed kicks: I’m probably the world’s biggest “Inhumans” detractor. Time after time, relaunch after relaunch, Marvel just can’t get me to care about these characters. So when Ahmed and Christian Ward were announced for a “Black Bolt” book, my prior interest in both of them as creators got me to take a peek. And gosh am I ever glad I did.

In a tumultuous year for the publisher, Ahmed’s steady hand guided Blackagar Boltagon through one of the most entrancing, funny, and surprisingly emotional books that a major publisher put out this year. By taking Black Bolt out of his element and imprisoning him with an unlikely supporting cast (he also makes you care about Crusher Creel, of all people), Ahmed was able to write a Blackagar that was a couple shades different from the stoic, frankly sometimes boring, ruler of Attilan that we’re often presented with. This Black Bolt shows a range of emotion that we’re not used to seeing. And because Ahmed puts the character through the ringer, any time we get to see him smile it feels like it’s earned.

In a book that’s full of imagination and weird visuals, it’s Ahmed’s attention to the emotional core that makes the book such a winner. It may be the only comic his name was on this year, but it was more than enough to make him our breakout writer. – Vince Ostrowski"

Man, dude goes straight for the feels.

Nice use of both Captain America and Odin.

And LASH! I always thought Lash was a cool villain... both design, powers, everything.

Lash in the comics was part of a secret earth inhuman tribe that didn't let everyone undergo Terrigenesis. When BB unleashed the bomb, Lash went around and judged those that received Terrigenesis... and if there power wasn't worthy he killed them. If they were worthy he tried to recruit them.

who was lash on AoS? I didn't make it that far lol

He was an Inhuman that killed Inhumans on instinct.

Read it and that Lash looks like the one from AoS.

If Mister Miracle wasn't out there this would be comic of the year. At least he is getting best newcomer recognition.

Books that are light on hard core action and cheesy comedy are not supposed to be this good.

I fear that others are going to try to copy it and not succeed

They gave this dude the new upcoming Exile book.

I said to myself I would follow him wherever he ended up but... Exiles is really pushing my dedication to that statement lol

Extravagantly Excellent.

A contender for 2017 comic of the year

Third person narration.

Good ending.

I read Exiles, the next project of this writer. He out here putting Hickman to shame on the universe ending angle. Lol
