Title: Black Panther Fan Art Thread!
Post by: The Wakandan on May 16, 2017, 08:32:19 am
Greetings all.

Being that we have users here with artistic abilities, I figured why not create a thread for HEF users to post their BP-related fan art?

Feel free to post away 8).

First ever attempt at drawing T'Challa's MCU outfit. Did this a while back, with mixed results.

Still having trouble getting a hang of his MCU outfit to this day.

EZ, what site are you using to upload you pics? I've got photobucket but it's slow as hell.

And to answer you question earlier, I just do an outline with light pencil and then use the India pens to color it in.

This isn't Panther related(more to come), but I wanted to put this on here to show how much I put into shading.

I Made an acoount On Deviantart.com. Makes it very easy to upload pictures pretty quickly there.

So you kinda just outline as if you were shading except for darkening it with pen instead?

Yeah pretty much. I'm trying to find different hues of the ink to try some different things.

My next BP/Shuri pic will be all pencils though.

Pic of Shuri I did soon after she was confirmed to be in the BP film. Based it on Letitia Wright's likeness (or at least tried to do so).

Nice! Shading requires an awful lot of patience, at least for me. A big why I usually focus on the upper body, much less shading required lol.

This is especially true with the MCU BP suit, if one decides to go the detailed route. The great thing about the comic version of BP's suit is its simplicity. Quite straightforward and to the point.

I have looked through your Artwork on Deviant and it is great! its actually partially what encouraged me to start my BP drawing. Those are hand drawn correct? What size paper do you use? I wanted to try and make a short comic strip or fight scene and i wanted to get the right size paper to do it if you could shed some light

The Bp fan art was cool. I got confused when. J Saw folami name come up though, lol I was like "I know this isn't Gays cheesy ass Character is it"

Also seeing Young versions of the superheros made me think that a young superhero book made in that style would be pretty badass actually

Yea, that's mine. I based it on a panel on BP #10, w/ Sprouse at the artist.

Looks good Man for the shading down on Point looks professionally done. I'm working on another BP drawing then I want to try and format comic panel fight as well afterwards

Thank you. I tried drawing a comic panel fight. Crashed and burned lol.

Is that charcoal or just lead pencilling?

Pencil. Took a pic of the drawing, then I made slight adjustments to the brightness and contrast.

Good stuff.
Keep up the great work.

Wakandan, really dig you depictions of Shuri. If you do a Coatesverse version with her hair showing I would like to see it colored black.

Speaking of hair I'll always appreciate and want to see Shuri in traditional natural hairstyles. There are so many to choose from and they accent her aesthetic perfectly. Love the tiny 'Fro look. Well done Wakandan.

I mean, its possible

but that "version" of Mephisto is a lot different than how he is usually drawn.

He usually looks more human and less beast.

Ha! Dude, I've been working on this for weeks. I'm not that fast.  ;D.

I usually do an initial outline on one pic, then start another. Once that outline is done, I go back to the first and work on that until complete and then finish the 2nd.

I'm going to do my best to try to complete a pic in 2 weeks, work permitting.

I'm lovin this stuff! I volunteer my writing, if heads are down to put together say a 6 issue, 12 page series showing REAL TChalla. Not T'Chumpa.

Go for it, Supreme! :)

I'd read it.

I'd read it too. I can aid with some of the sequentials. after I post the W.W.O. pages (in july) I'm down to collab. I don't know if I can swing 6 issues but i'll do what I can, S.I.. we all gotta work together. holla @ me bruh. I got you.

Thanks man! Rocaforts is my all time favorite Depiction of T'Challa given the detail in which he portrays the habit. I don't even mind the more Panther like look as it provides much needed detail lol.

But i gotta say, Im a huge fan of your BP fan art, and your Comic formatt, The afrofuturism you show i would love to see in a office arvel BP title, Itds defeintely on point! After my MCU drawing im working on i want to try my hand at a fight scene just a single page, but i wanted to ask on your drawings did you use paper and pencil or was it done digital?

yep, 2000 MF 11 (2011) is when I made this BP, Storm & Logan love triangle. they are late... they need a hall pass!

I not feelin' the royal representation in the BP trailer. Tchallah only has a black suit & scarf in a U.N. (type) clip. Haile Selassie was the last "real" royalty on the planet. I gave BP a more regal (Ras-tafari) look for his interview with oprah. check-out the cat eyes on Surrih (why do you think I put her with shades?). the cap shield & planet with the shining star (left-hand corner) are the same image. remember the WWO premise.. WHERE DOES VIBRAINUM COME FROM? space travel it is.

Nice! That helps me stay optimistic Because I know the benefits of having it digitally drawn gives more flexibility and details as you can zoom but paper and pencil is my preferred method. I'm glad you Also do it the old-fashioned way.

I like the variations of Storm, gives Different looks and it works, the floating anscestors of Wakanda Also looks great and gives a real respect to the culture and those before them.
Also I agree I in regards to the regal look for Tchalla, I would of liked something similar to Hudlin's run in regards to how Tchalla (and Shuri) look when they are sporting Royal get ups. I also like the fantasy design you applied, almost like a DnD type fantasy to the wear which is a nice touch.

I am looking to get some 11x17 books so I can attempt some comic panels and get my feet wet with it all, because the 8.5x11 Even then feels like I don't have the space I want to sometimes to draw everything so then I have to scale down (current Issue I am having with MCU Panther drawing) but I am still learning and working on improving. Also looking forward to more drawings you post of course!

Hey EZ, looking forward to seeing your next pic. I enjoyed the Rocafort cover you did.  8)

I usually work on different size and weight sketch books. I've got as small as 5.5 x 8 and as large as 9 x 12. I use the heavier paper weights if I decide to use Indigo pens(markers). This prevents the ink from bleeding.

Overall I've got 15 different sketchbooks. I'm devoting a few to just BP related stuff. I've got one I use for sword and sorcery type stuff like the Roman Centaurian I posted a while back.

The thing I need to do now is to get all thise books filled with drawings.  8)

Thanks! It's coming along now lol drawing mcu panther from the scene I have chosen is Alot harder then I thought because it's Very hard to see all the details. Something's just kinda blend in and it makes it tough to differentiate between certain areas, but it's coming along very well, I'll probably post a rough draft here in the next day or so Then finish the shading.

My wife bought me a new Sketch book for father's day, it's an 11x14 Which I want to use for trying comic strips.  My next drawing is to do a fight scene, so I'll see how much fun that Will be lol. My 4 yr old son also added his own touch to it because he knows I like the black panther he told my wife that they should put him on the outside of the sketch book

If you're talking about the suit from Civil War, search for images of the Hot Toys figure.

References for the chevrons on the MCU habit are tricky, If I didn't have the Hot Toys on my desk, I'd probably leave them off. As it is I still keep them vague, so that the lines don't overwhelm the figure.

When I'm working on my own stuff it can take a day or two, depending on if I have the assets or I have to sculpt my own. For these Homages I forced a time limit on myself, under 2hrs for the pencils, under 4hrs for the 3D.

Thanks brother. I've gotten faster over the years, but I've been drawing since before I can remember. The bulk of the time is spent on learning new tools, mediums and programs. Once I've decided on the medium and the tool, I set time limits, and work to improve.

Having said that, everytime I see a sketch of Coatesverse Shuri, I feel like projectile vomiting.

I've only used the crop/resize portion, but there are also some color-tweaking settings.  Contrast, brighten, that sort of thing.

I just bought three 9x12 mix media pads(and about 4 packs of India ink pen/markers). I'll use these to do fight scenes and possible color them in if I'm feeling it. I've gotthe outlines done for the Sam pic, just need to start working on the shading. My next project after that will be Iron Fist.

What kind of fight scene? Who is involved?
Also do you get this marker's online? Last question as I noticed it with my latest MCU Panther I had issues, but do you pen your drawings after you pencil? Or do you just use those ink marker's?

I'm also looking at getting a body-kun to help me get angles especially for fight's

I haven't picked a fight scene yet. I'm just going to browse some comics and see what stands out. It's definitely going to be some kind of H2H fight scene. I buy my India pens from A.C. Moore or Michaels and they can be expensive. The brand is called Faber-Castell(made in Germany) and they are very good quality. I'm sure you can get them online. They have a range of colors and sizes. The have pens that range from very fine, sharp lines to very wide lines.

As far as coloring, I lightly shade the areas I want to color using a 4H or 5H pencil. I then come back to fill in the color

I saw the wooden, pose-able figures but I like the of the ones in your pic much better.

thanks for the info. I'll check them out and see about getting some. Yeah the body-kun seems like a Good one to invest in.

As for the fight scene oddly enough I was thinking about taking one of Coates sh*tty scene's and revamping it to something that's not sh*t possibly as a way to say learn to use your imagination and not be a lazy ass

True that! A lot of people are just now being introduced to this term, and I think it'll be the genre they didn't know they wanted but definitely needed in their lives.

I'll post them here. I used my 9 x 12 pads for these, first time using this sixe. I was a little hesitant at first because of the size but the work well when doing covers.

The Iron Fist pic has me wondering if I should darken the shaded areas a little or do straight black for the contrast. I like it as it is but I can see the dramatic effect of the black.

With the Sam/Cap pic, I wanted to experiment with adding a single color to the drawing, coloring the red boots and the red stripes on the suit and shield.

Thanks bro. I can see in my head what you're talking about with the black. I've got a Karnak pic that I want to do and I'll try it out on that. After that, I'm going to work on some fight scenes on smaller pads and do the black technique on those.

Excellent. Great fluidity and good detail. I especially like how you depicted the fingers showing in Klaw's sonic blaster. You're hired.

Thanks. No 3D for this one, but I'm going to mock up a short 3D fight scene with T'Challa and Kilmonger.

a page from PROTOCOLS I plan to redo/ edit. I like the page layout, it just needs more development. I plan to make the conference (left-hand top) bigger or grander. a page from PROTOCOLS I plan to redo/ edit. I like the page layout, it just needs more development. I plan to make the conference (left-hand top) bigger or grander. you'll have to ask Ture. sneak peek preview. I draw so no inker is needed- with sharp crisp lines. this is 2018 & the game is all digital! I've said too much already about PROTOCOLS. it's a collab project. it's a BP shared experience. the best kind of fandom. I'm shopping for a few 'colorists' to finish art for a separate project.
I could recommend some people. they are not cheap. maybe you could recommend someone, Battle?

Why not seek monetary compensation to make things interesting, fellas?

I'd recommend gathering up all of your work in progress, drafting a pitch that describes in detail what you guys want to do (and why) then uploading that batch of work to www.gofundme.com (http://www.gofundme.com)

Just register, follow all of the instructions on the site. It's fairly easy and you gain immediate notoriety as a bonus.

It's worth the effort.

Enjoying your stuff APEXABYSS. In your quest for a colorist, make sure they don't lose the energy expressed in your lines.

Again, youíll have to ask Ture.

I think itís a wonderful idea, Battle. I wanna see HEF create fully developed BP projects.  Why not? TNC kinda deserves it. BP film hit a billion. Can we do an ALL-IN BP project?

Iím currently working on a few funded projects & a few pro-bono. Of course the paid gigs get priority. The most amazing (current) project on my plate is the Static Shock fan-comic. OMG itís good. Sucks to be them! Itís good cus itís being funded.

Could somebody please start a crowd funding page? I can support it financially & creatively. If not, oh well. Iím not stopping my grind. A grind to PROTECT BP.

BP comic strip coming soon

Don't know the artist, but must be a Hudlin fan.

he's one of my fav BP artists. Mark Texeira, had a unique dope style for BP.

I do have a writer/ artist wish list. I still wanna see a Humberto Ramos....

The problem is BP creators take the character too seriously. BP is always in peril. These !@#$%in' nerds ruin everything. Yes, there is a dark-side to geekdom. the fan-art does look cool. props!
