I wonder what that was like... watching 'Animal House' with other classmates on a field trip at the library (of all places!  ;D)?

'Animal House' is the ultimate white boy cult movie that inspired those teen soft-core porn movies in the early 80s such as 'Porky's', 'Fast Times At Ridgemont High' and 'Joysticks'.

I didn't care about anyone around me.  I was just into the movie.

This ABSENCE of these films is UNFORGIVABLE !!!

1.SHAFT
2.SWEETBACK'S BADASS SONG
3.SUPERFLY
4.THE MACK
5.THE HARDER THEY COME

I would've allowed a REPRIEVE if Reggie would've included any of the following films.

1.THE OX BOW INCIDENT
2.THE SEARCHERS
3.DOUBLE INDEMNITY
4.MEAN STREETS
5.CARMEN JONES
6.TO KILL A MOCKINGBIRD
7.SHANE
8.PSYCHO
9.ALIEN
10.A SOLDIER'S STORY

Yeah...  kinda expecting a list similar to this... Although, I take exception with 'A Soldier's Story' by which I just saw this a couple o' years ago for the first time.

Ummm-m-m-m...  despite all of the rave reviews, and I was in high school at the time of its released.

I didn't feel the movie was 'all that'.  :-\

I wasn't impressed.  :-[

Wait...  Wait...Wait...  ;D

Why do you believe that 'A Soldier's Story' was so special or impressive?

...as compared to another drama that released a year after such as 'The Color Purple'?

The ensemble cast in A SOLDIER'S STORY was superior to that of A COLOR PURPLE. There were standout performances throughout with Adolf Caesar stealing the show. I'm not a fan of Walker's misandry at all, especially toward Black men, and I must admit I watch THE COLOR PURPLE now through that lens

Adolf Caesar was also cast in 'The Color Purple' and its cast was much larger in scope than in 'A Soldier's Story' (don't even remember if there were any females cast, at all).

For someone who practically carried the entirety of 'A Soldier's Story' seemed a bit subdued, especially around all those female characters in 'The Color Purple'.  Besides, the problem I had with 'A Soldier's Story' is that the movie was supposed be a period movie and didn't feel like it at all.  :-\

'The Color Purple' felt like early 20th Century ante-bellum, jim crow South. 'A Soldier's Story' felt like it took place in 1984 and the soundtrack didn't help suspend belief, either.  :-[

What da hell does that even mean? ???

That's the second time I've heard that remark.  The first time was in Meridian, Mississippi.

Dude... you're gonna have to accept that 'A Solider's Story' is overrated. The movie had little to no impact on me and I'm a veteran.

'The Color Purple'...?    Had me bawling like a baby the first time I saw it.

I was told by an elder from Alabama that "GEECHIE" was a derogatory term meaning someone was so poor that they only ate rice.

Now its "OVERRATED".
