From the article:

Quote
Neal was born and raised in Greensboro, N.C. He played college ball at Johnson C. Smith, a CIAA school in Charlotte where he averaged 23.1 points per game. He picked up the nickname Curly due to his shaved head resembling that of “Three Stooges” star Curly Howard.

Fascinating!  :)

Did not know his nickname came directly from one of the Three Stooges.

So famous, was even immortalized in a Hanna-Barbera animated television show in the early 1970s, and comicbooks.

Truly a sports entertainment legend.  He will be truly missed.
