Title: BALDWIN HILLS
Post by: Cheirel on July 10, 2007, 10:27:08 pm
What a trip to see people in what was my neighborhood. Where I skateboarded rode my bike and BS'd. Seeing folks, houses I know. Saw filming notices on my in laws house last week who knew.
And the Archer girls vs the Jungle girl c'mon that ain't even fair.

It's interesting I'll catch the next episodes cuz I find some location things kinda funny. Where the heck are the daddies? My hubby loves how tough the moms are on the boys.

way back in the day one night we were setting up for than a big house party and this persons' mom was like what's going on he was all I'm having a party blah blah blah. She was just like oh. ( I would have needed medical care from my mom) Needless to say we had the party it was off the hook. Sadly he went on to pretty much become a washed up child actor .

so...explain the dynamics of the 2 classes of girls..
i could tell that the group of chicks were the "Baldwin Hills" girls, right?
and the other chick was a cute "hood" chick, right?

becuz she piqued my curiousity when she suggested that the "Baldwin" girls come to her side of town... i want to see that!

The way it's set up it suppose to be to be across one street technically Labrea. The hood rat lives in the Jungle origanlly named for the beautifully for trees that lined the streets etc. Now the Jungle well because of the type of the people that live there.

The Archer girls (uppity private school ) live in I don't want to spoil the location for where it's actually set but a much better neighborhood. Trust me they will drive through the Jungle but there is no real reason to spend a day at homechicks house. For the party she bought her outfit for $20.00 on Slauson the The Archer girls went to Melrose.

I grew up in the neigborhood which side to you think? Don't answer....

But it is a trip to actually look at houses and say that's on such and such street. Or say I don't know where that is and my hubby would say that's (he grew up in the neighborhood too) such and such.

Cheirel, if youy know any grown Archer Girls I am in need of an auto upgrade ASAP! Nothing big, just a black big body BMW with Lamborghini doors.

Seriously, I am really intrigued to watch the show after the comments made here.

P.S. I will settle for a 2007 Hundai with 29 inch rims and diamond dust engraving on the hood.

You are too funny!!! You have a better chance of getting that from the "ghetto chick." I love when the rims cost more than the car or better yet they are from rent a rim.
Seriously, it should be a interesting show to watch because the dynamics of the girls  are really funny.
My hubby reminded me that the jungle at one point time black people weren't even allowed to live there because it was so nice funny how time brings upon a change.

wait a minute...
white folks kept black folks from livin' in a place called "the jungle?"

wow... even racism is weird in cali!

hahahahhahaha

Racism is very weird in Cali. I'm sure in watching Baldwin Hills you will see an interesting racism between our own race. It can be brutual.
It's not just Baldwin Hills they also included an area we call "pill hill" because all the docs and dentists used to live there. Thats more the area where the boys live.

Title: Re: BALDWIN HILLS
Post by: jefferson L.O.B. sergeant on July 13, 2007, 03:45:18 pm
Much of what I know about the Jungle is from the Tupac documentary: Thug Immortal and the L.A. gang documentary on HBO made by Bone from Athens Park. To hear about a reality outside of the gang era is very interesting.

Cheirel, I don't think you are trying hard enough to help me. There must be some Baldwin women who can't be seen in a 2005 european car and are willing to make a gift to the Young Black Man's auto fund. All donations are tax-deductible.

Trust me Jeff there are plenty of women that would be happy to take care of a brother. A few kind words and before you know it.... What's makes me you think I grew up on that side of the hill ::)

There is a huge population inside of the Jungle that has lived there for years the apartments are HUGE and can be very nice. It's just the heliocopters everynight etc.

But Baldwin Hills has the airplanes and you can't beat the views :o

Hubby and I were talking the night it was on saying we always hated the fact people called Baldwin Hills the Black Beverly Hills. >>>and there is no beach, no good shopping, and you do remember these are black mamas when do they let you just get away with just anything? And did I mention the schools aren't worth a sh:t? Don't get me started. It's reach for it to be the Black Laguna Beach, sadly.

If you're young you go to Melrose if you really have money you go to Robertson. If want a "mall" type enviroment you go to the Grove. That's why the girls are in Archer private school all the way baby. Painfully expensive I'm looking at 6th grade at an unamed school and it's going to run about $20,000 for year. Can You say ouch for me :o
The nearest beach is Santa Monica/Venice.

we laugh about this catholic school that a lot people send their kids to from that area and about 30% of the boys were in the same gang.
Feel sorry for me that's why you have to live in the real Beverly Hills  there school is safe until high school. I even thought about using one my friends guest house address in white BH to send my kiddie...but she was a little picky Ain't that BITch!!

how that spoiled chocol8 girl just gonna leave ol' girl standing outside?
hahahahhahaha...

and she just couldn't say, "I'm sorry for how i acted.  You forgive me?"
she just kept on talkin' and put her foot in her mouth.

and why?
it just isn't clickin' with her, i guess.
she's surprised that i like it.

she knows how much i despise spoiled, rich, airhead privileged young girls... can't stand 'em... so she thought i would last less than 2 minutes.

but me?  this is new to me... it's like i'm spying on a part of black culture that i wasn't aware of.

I know Reggie doesn't need any help but he better have ordered a second season of this show. Tonight was more of the same great television we have been exposed to in all the other episodes.

The !@#$ you at the end by "fake ass Rudy Huxtable" was obviously the result of Cheirel's influence. ;D

I just recently viewed 'Love & Basketball' on DVD because it was a '40 Acres & a Mule' joint and I didn't know that Sanaa Lathan was in it. I was impressed with the story and the performances but what really stuck out was that story took place near Baldwin Hills in the 1980's, a community in California I've never been; I've been to Compton, Long Beach, Malibu and all over San Diego but never heard of Baldwin Hills until this show aired.  Had I known about this place in the early 90s, I would've visited then.  Anyone know what the ill zip codes are for this area?

I've (actually my daughter) has recruited new dedicated members to the show. It's funny to see and hear the opinions of the people who have lived in the neighborhood for 30+ years who didn't know about the show.

Who's idea was it to change the intro of who lives in the hood? I really like it ;)

I had a heated convo about this show last night at a party. It was very interesting to hear the different takes on the show. I think those who live in the area are feeling a little less now then those who don't vs those from a different state. Age group had nothing to do with it. "Baldwin Hills" had rash of home invasion robberies etc. People of BH feel they just live not "rich" lives etc (except for the yellow patina) everyone knows everyone etc.etc.etc. and Fingers where pointed at well I just say someone who's on the as what ? Producer? who should know better....
I couldn't believe we branched into a whole BET convo with your permission Reg, I would like to share some of it with you.

Because you HEFFA's went on so about this show I started to DVR it.

I'm writing now 'cause I'm watching Waiting to Exhale this minute and I just saw Lela Rochon.

She was on one episode and she looked...well, let's just say different.  My dreams came crashing down, back to reality!

The show is pretty good, even though some of the kids seem a little out of touch with reality, but I guess I understand, this IS their reality.  I have to remind myself of this from time-to-time.

I would love to hear about the convos you are having Cheriel.

I love the show.  Just for Justin confronting his dad and coming to reconcilliation after him trying to get the young mother to forgive those who killed her child's father.  The fact that her dad would even organize such an event.  Moriah getting the lecture from his dad about dealing with legacy.  C'mon, what do people want?

Finally saw the marathon for this season. Great work. I can't relate to the kids for a lot of reasons but I did feel sympathetic to their issues. I would love to see a spin off Reg that looks at the Black elite from the Hamptons that guy wrote about a few years ago. Can't remember the name.

It's so funny to me how much my daughter loves the show. She even wanted to change schools this semester because of Baldwin Hills. I find that kinda funny (ironic).

Before she left to Hawaii she was on the phone calling her grandparents to make they didn't miss it. So we often talk about the different areas where things are filmed etc. Things that aren't known to world but I know like where my favorite champagne truffles come from, so I've had that same mocha scene same place.
The march was wonderful and tree planting ... I watch, I don't miss a show. Thanx! to my child I know them better than you. But after back to back grown folk talk I can understand what little twist maybe would give even more of a boost. I will drop you a note now that you ok'd it.  ;)
