Title: Black Panther vs Wakanda
Post by: KIP LEWIS on October 31, 2008, 10:36:00 am
All this talk about what T'challa can do sans the costume, got me thinking:

BP is leader of his nation and him operating on Avengers is akin to Bush/Obama/McCain/Fred being President of US and working for MI-6 in England.  It would be viewed as inheritantly political intervention in another country's affairs.

But Wakanda wants to be isolationists.   They tell everyone that, then BP joins the Avengers.

Was it ever realistic?

OK...I may be wrong, but bear with an old man trying to remember Avengers history! :)  BP was a member of the Avengers before they got their sanctioning from the U.S Government.  So he was in essence not working for the U.S. Gov't at the time, he was just hanging out with a group of adventurers.  When Henry Peter Gyrich became their liaison, he specifically called T'Challa out about being a foreign national and kicked him off the team.  He didn't rejoin the Avengers until later in the Priest run when he arranged for them to have U.N., not specifically U.S. backing.  So, I think that's kinda realistic...or as realistic as a man wrapped in a flag, a man in a tin can and a man claiming to be a Norse God fighting evil can be.   ;D

Actually, Gyrich wanted BP on the team, but BP said he was busy.

But Avengers have always had US govt connection, except when they worked for UN.  Avengers are probably more like Blackwater.   Private firm with security clearences higher than most Generals.
