-
One of the best TV Theme songs EVAH:
Hill Street Blues
Dallas
Mission Impossible (once had it as ringtone on phone) -
Twilight Zone
honorable mention: tonight show w/ johnny carson & Arsenio Hall Show (maybe not fair due to these shows had live bands vs recorded songs)
-
Back in the day you two types of theme music: the kind that told you what the show was about."Now listen to the story of a man named Jed-Beverly Hillbillies" and the straight up instrumental.
As far as straight up instrumentals go I can't think of any better than the Peter Gunn theme.
Those late 50's-early 60's joints were pretty cool.
But I have to give the Knight Rider theme special props. It was so good it made you think the show was cooler than it actually was.

I think everyone sang The Jeffersons.
Well we're movin on up,
To the east side.
To a deluxe apartment in the sky.
Movin on up,
To the east side.
We finally got a piece of the pie.
Fish don't fry in the kitchen;
Beans don't burn on the grill.
Took a whole lotta tryin',
Just to get up that hill.
Now we're up in the big leagues,
Gettin' our turn at bat.
As long as we live, it's you and me baby,
There ain't nothin wrong with that.
Well we're movin on up,
To the east side.
To a deluxe apartment in the sky.
Movin on up,
To the east side.
We finally got a piece of the pie.

I'd like to see rappers sample some of this.. like the barney miller instrumental.. I have a dim memory of somebody sampling "Night Court".. I think it was Cam'ron..
-
Cam sampled Magnum PI for "357".

I don't know if Cam ever did Night Court but he did do Hill Street Blues (they sound very similar), Magnum, yes, and Monday Night Football (Let Me Know)

Yeah, you're right. I've always wondered why no one caught that but then If you ever heard Positive K's 1st album there is a track called 'Shakin'* that I thought the Barney Miller bassline was thrown in there, but it's not.
That Barney Miller bassline is mean.
Yet, Cheers was sampled in LL COOL J's 'Clap Your Hands' (which I liked). :)
*I think it's called that
-
You gone make me go to the clothes hamper full of cassetes in my closet and pull out Positive K.
