Who is the better song stylist?
-
I'd go with Sade.. mainly because she's been at least moderately more prolific than Anita.. mad props to Anita of course, Detroit homegrown.. both pioneers of quiet storm, 80's jazzy soul..

Sade every day, twice on Sundays. Whew...

~~No need to ask, she's a smooothh-h-h operator... :-*~~~

This is a really hard one, but I'm taking Anita Baker. Sade is great and she has the longevity thing, but Anita had more songs I liked.

I agree. Ms. Baker did have more songs I liked than Sade especially when Anita was lead singer in a soul group (whose name escapes me now)before she became the 'Anita Baker' we listeners are all familiar with.
But the question is... Who is the better song stylist?
and I think the interesting thing is that Sade wasn't really a strong lead singer; She has this deep, monotone voice. She can barely raise her notes octaves above Ms. Baker's church choir-like voice and at the height of Sade's prime during the mid to late 80s, her sound virtually started a new radio listening market as most people didn't know Sade was really a lead singer of a British band because her name headlines the act: 'cool jazz', if I recall... ...but...
I dig Sade simply because she merely sounds comfortable in her own element and doesn't try too hard to be something that she's not.

Answering strictly Magic's question of who is the better stylist I go with Sade. I think Anita has a better voice and I give her the edge on if I had to pick one's greatest hit CD over another to be stranded with I'd take Anita.

Sade is a talker and not a singer and is therefor disqualified. 8)

Oh, now I remember...
Anita Baker was down with Chapter 8 back-in-th-day. :)
-
No disrespect to Helen, but all her songs sound the SAME to me.
I like her music. But it's all interchangeable.
I think Anita Baker has more range and versatility.

Sade is the better song stylist....her diction is much better than Anita Baker's too even Nancy Wilson commented on her need to improve years ago.
