Thanks for the kind words Battle and Princesa. My collection is most definitely all Black Panther. Since I was a child I've been collecting everything BP. My introduction to Black Panther came with a coverless Jungle Action # 13 entitled  The God Slayer.
One look at the first page and I was captivated. The book was serious. It was rich in context. Mature. The writing was poetic "It was a night when a man can reach and believe he can touch the stars, that he is part of the cosmological scheme of things! A night when a man could believe he is an integral part of the universe. Not omnipotent. Not superior. Just unique and unto himself." The art work had a palpable texture enshrined in a dark and mood. The Panther was alone facing insurmountable odds with heart and soul. What more could a child ask for. This was the Black Panther. This was my hero.

Wow! Ture that's whats up! :) So far your collection is getting really big! As far as display cases go, you may want to try IKEA or Ashley Furniture, you might find something there that interest you.

I recently acquired two of the Black Panther Masterworks Editions, the original and the variant.  I appreciate your suggesting IKEA and Ashley furniture, I'll check them out soon. Here is something I thought should be shared with the community here at HEF courtesy of ekie of CBR, in reference to something I would love to add to my collection of playable BP games.

Speaking of Marvel vs Capcom 3.

Black panther need our help getting consideration to be included in this game.
Many of you may not be gamers but trust me it will do wonders for his status and exposure worldwide.

I've managed to get alot of votes for him already but if the people here will take a few minutes out of your day to sign up for a Capcom membership (free) and goto the link below and vote for Black panther it would be greatly appreciated. We're at 5.6 percent right now which is really good but Panther deserves more votes.

Sign up, then goto the link below, then goto page 3 or 4 and find Panthers box and vote for it.

http://www.capcom-unity.com/go/suggestion/box#

Trust me when I say it will go a long way to making him the A list character that he deserves to be! So please...Go vote!

Most certainly have, Reg. If I hadn't ordered the Black Panther Sideshow Statue in July I would be purchasing from Reggie's World. I will be picking up a copy of the trade paperback of Flags of Our Fathers soon. It goes without saying of course, the Black Panther animated series dvd.

Try Detolf Glass Door Cabinets from IKEA.  I was able to find all of mine on Craigs list.  They sell at IKEA for $60.  You can find em on Craigs list for anywhere from $20-$35 each.  Nice BP collection.

I'm waiting for my Sideshow Marvel Black Panther Premium Format Statue to arrive. I was told that it should be here by the end of next week. I will definitely post the pictures then Greg. The Detolf Glass Door Cabinets from IKEA sounds ideal Cage. As you can see I'm out of shelf space. Thank you Cage, for the comment and suggestion.

Picked up the BP Lead figurine the other day!  Really surprised by the nice book that comes with it.  Summarized a BP history that included contributions from all the major creators to work on BP from Stan and Jack to Reg.

Early Christmas present to me.

I should have written you sooner given the seriousness of your situation, True Father 7. I had wanted to respectfully bid on your Black Panther Texeria original artwork print limited edition 384 of 400 but due to the 24 hour limit, I knew I wouldn't be able to meet your asking price .

I hope that circumstances have reached a positive conclusion and my sincere apologies for not having written sooner, if just to acknowledge that I read your post and felt your urgency.

All the best.

Keep it comin'!

We’ve already seen loads of Black Panther toys, but the merchandising machine is kicking into another gear with a lineup of awesome items that includes backpacks, purses, jewelry, wallets, socks, hats, and even an LED umbrella. You can check out the entire collection on Merchoid, but here's the breakdown:

• Black Panther Satchel Handbag - $49.99
• Black Panther Zip Around Purse - $28.99
• Black Panther Laptop Backpack - $69.99
• Black Panther Suit Up Snapback Cap - $28.99
• Black Panther Black Bi-Fold Wallet - $19.99
• Black Panther Comic Bi-Fold Wallet - $19.99
• Black Panther Logo LED Umbrella - $32.99
• Black Panther Sublimated Crew Socks - $13.99
• Black Panther Spike Cosplay Collar Necklace - $26.99

Details are scarce at the moment, but many of these items appear to be additions to Bioworld’s awesome lineup of bags and accessories (a Black Panther bag from Loungefly is also available to pre-order now). One of the details we do know is that the umbrella has built-in LEDs and the handle doubles as a flashlight - which is interesting. We can also say with a great deal of certainty that the spike necklace is badass.

The pre-orders for the items listed above haven’t gone live at the time of writing, but that should change in the coming days. Just head here periodically to check and see when the items are available. The first wave of shipments are slated to begin in January.

Black Panther opens in theaters on February 16, 2018.

My HotToys figure is still in the box, that and all my BP Civil War merch due to a lack of display room. I was told that my local Toys R Us will have the new BP movies toyst sometime early next month. I'm looking forward to some new action figures from HotToys.

Marvel’s Black Panther Gets Its Own Jewelry Line

by Renaldo Matadeen

When you take in Marvel Studios’ Black Panther this February, you can do so in style thanks to Douriean Fletcher, an LA-based jewelry designer who has created a special Black Panther jewelry line.

Fletcher’s work is usually affiliated with social awareness, such as women’s rights in South Africa and impoverished youth in New Orleans, and now the designer has done the same for a movie that is set to break ground by diving into King T’Challa’s rule over Wakanda in the first African-centric mainstream superhero story.

The collection includes a gorgeous selection of earrings, hats, bracelets and necklaces, all of which are on pre-sale until Jan. 6. As one of the year’s most-anticipated films, these items could well be in high demand given they’re based on the Panther’s claws, linked to the symbolism of the character as well as the trinkets that some Wakandans wear.

I still have yet to see those rhinos at my local Wal-Mart.
All I've seen for the past two days are Killmonger, Panther, & Vibranium Panther.
I'm tempted to buy one but I think I'll wait until they're on Clearance.

For my contentment I'm going to have to view this as an additional Black Panther uniform T'Challa has at his disposal as Shuri intended. OMG, this looks better than the movie. I'm going to need a bigger allowance.

Black Panther toy production gets ramped up due to ‘robust demand’

Quote
Hasbro Inc. didn’t need to read the Zeitgeist to predict more than a year ago that Black Panther would be a monster hit.

The company’s expectation had little to do with the movie’s groundbreaking depiction of a Black superhero from an African utopia.

In its marketing research, Hasbro simply asked children what they thought. The kids said the Marvel character was cool.

“He has what they want in a superhero,” said Adam Biehl, Hasbro’s vice president of global brand strategy and marketing. Biehl said kids told Hasbro they liked the unbreakable armour and his claws, whose slashing abilities came in handy during a fight.

Hasbro made more toys for Black Panther, which opened on Feb. 16, than it did for any other Marvel character in its first full-length movie. And that includes Iron Man, which a decade ago kicked off the Marvel cinematic universe that now includes 18 movies. The company made items for kids, like action figures and claws, and a replica helmet for adults.

Hasbro hasn’t disclosed sales figures, but says “robust demand” since the film’s release has pushed it to ramp up production. There are plenty of other signs, too. Web searches for Black Panther toys have surged around the world, according to Google, and a secondary market for the toys is already booming on sites like EBay.

Merchandise sales

Black Panther is poised to revive a slumbering movie-merchandise market. As Cars 3 toymakers can attest, just because a movie does well in theatres doesn’t mean the success translates to product tie-ins. Cars 3 amassed $384 million (U.S.) in receipts last year, according to Box Office Mojo, but sales of related Mattel Inc. merchandise were lacklustre. Sales of toys related to the Star Wars franchise have declined two years in a row.

Black Panther, after setting box-office records over the four-day Presidents’ Day weekend, became one of only four movies in Hollywood history to earn $100 million or more in its second weekend in theatres. It’s headed for $1 billion in global receipts, according to Box Office Mojo.

The superhero, played by Chadwick Boseman, is a king who rules Wakanda, an African country technologically advanced because of its use of an almost magical element, vibranium. He’s flanked by two women, the fierce general Okoye, played by Danai Gurira, and adviser and former love interest Nakia, played by Oscar winner Lupita Nyong’o. Perhaps the most intriguing characters for preteens are the king’s sister, Shuri (Letitia Wright), who’s a wizard when it comes to technology, and the violent and unpredictable Erik Killmonger (Michael B. Jordan), who challenges the king’s right to rule.

Superhero buzz

Hasbro President John Frascotti, who’s been at the company since 2008, when Iron Man debuted, said the buzz among superhero fans points to Black Panther becoming a giant franchise for Marvel and Hasbro.

“It’s about independence and self-determination,” Frascotti said. “It will resonate with all ethnicities because it’s just a great story with great characters.”

But what adults perceive as meaningful entertainment doesn’t always translate into big toy sales. Avatar was one of the biggest blockbusters of all time, and had a negligible toy business.

Fun factor

Another reason Black Panther will stand out is its embrace of female empowerment. The film is loaded with strong female characters. Aside from Okoye, Nakia and Shuri, there’s Ramonda, the king’s mother, played by Angela Bassett.

While commentators have praised kids’ content that upends stereotypes, the success of the merchandise often comes down to the fun factor. Walt Disney Co.’s Doc McStuffins animated show has been lauded for portraying a Black family in which the mom is a doctor and the dad stays at home. But the secret to its success was building an adventure-filled series around nurturing, a play pattern prized by girls.

Meanwhile, Bratz dolls, which had a meteoric rise last decade, were often derided by parents as too provocative, but girls loved them enough to convince their parents to buy them.

But the main determinant of its success is the uniqueness of its plot and the coolness of its characters, said Jim Silver, an industry analyst and the editor of toy-review portal TTPM.com.

“You have a great story, a great movie and a new set of characters, who appeal to a broad demographic,” Silver said. “People are looking for something new.”

I don't really care for all this ambiguous wording and speaking in riddles.  I want sales figures!  The biggest and most important success was the box office and critical reviews... so if the toys don't hit, then it is what it is.  But if the toys BOOM, well... then we're getting into some very interesting discussions

Hasbro has just announced a new Black Panther helmet to be added to their Marvel Legends premium role play line. The helmet actually lights up to represent the suit’s ability to absorb and redistribute kinetic energy, as seen in the film.

The helmet will be available in August and is now available for pre-order.

This is an awesome collectible for any Marvel Cinematic Universe fan. I picked up the Star-Lord helmet Hasbro made last year and absolutely love it, so this is a must for me.

For more details, see Hasbro’s official product description below.

‘Black Panther’ Toy Shortage Blindsides Retailers
Toy industry is scrambling to meet overwhelming demand for “Black Panther” action figures, though Disney says a new wave of toys and merch are coming this summer
Jeremy Fuster
(https://www.thewrap.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/02/Black-Panther-Build-A-Bear.jpg)

The success of “Black Panther” has become almost too much for the toy industry to handle, as Hasbro is scrambling to solve a shortage of action figures and toys for the hit Marvel movie.

According to The New York Post, thousands of stores nationwide had sold out their stock of “Black Panther” action figures just three weeks after the film’s mid-February release. The Post also reports that some action figures are just a few orders away from running out of stock on Amazon.

Disney says that a new batch of “Black Panther” merch will be slowly rolled out over the summer, including new toys that will coincide with the film’s Blu-Ray release and the theatrical release of “Avengers: Infinity War,” as well as back-to-school items in July and a new line of toys and Halloween costumes in September. The studio also asserts that the toys are still readily available on major online stores.

“The product line celebrating Black Panther is the largest ever for a Marvel origin film, including expanded categories, such as performance wear and high-fashion collaborations,” a Disney spokesperson said in a statement sent to TheWrap. “We are thrilled that fans around the world are celebrating this incredible story through merchandise. We anticipated demand would be strong, but it is exceeding even our highest expectations.”

Meanwhile, some parents of Wakanda-loving kids are expressing their disappointment that their local stores have empty racks where “Black Panther” toys should be, though some choose to see it as a sign of the film’s overwhelming popularity.

Toy analyst Richard Gottlieb told The Post that the toy industry simply underestimated the status of “Black Panther” in the African-American community and how that demand for representation in media would translate into demand for toys.

“The African-American community was very excited about this movie, but the toy industry was unsure whether it would generate broad public demand,” he said.

But BMO Capital toy analyst Gerrick Johnson had a different view, telling Fox Business on Monday that a major reason why toy racks at several stores are so thin right now is because of uncertainty regarding toy sales at retailers. He also said that when it comes to “Black Panther” toys, it’s better for Hasbro to “to keep it tight now, as scarcity is good to keep interest and demand going into the back half.”

"Black Panther" and Outkast Fuse Together On J. Period's "Wakanda Forever Ever" Mixtape
Matthew Parizot  April 19, 2018

(https://ssle.ulximg.com/image/355x355/cover/1524170485_af424ec5077068a4ed91eed0900d4e18.jpg/fe1ac56182e6392a4360c7551b02b10d/1524170485_b8c936d63447ab1d6e1ae34fdda72236.jpg)

Atlanta meets Wakanda.
J. Period is no stranger to making political music. The Brooklyn DJ has made songs with Common, and even assisted Lin-Manuel Miranda and The Roots in the creation of The Hamilton Mixtape. Now he's taking on another pop culture phenomenon, Marvel's Black Panther, and mashing it up with an all-time great rap album, Outkast's Stankonia.

The mix, which will be available in downloadable form on April, 20th, finds Period fusing the two projects together in interesting ways. André 3000's "Bombs Over Bagdad" verse takes on a whole new dimension when it's slowed down and performed over the sounds of Wakandan chanting. Audio clips of news stories are interspersed throughout, some detailing the shootings of black people at the hands of police officers.

J. Period find lessons of black liberation in the spirits of both Outkast and Black Panther, and this mix is a strong testament to that.

Win a Custom 'Black Panther' Xbox One X

We’ve seen some sweet custom designs of Xbox One consoles and controllers over the years, but what Microsoft has managed to do with Black Panther may be the best thing we’ve seen yet.

The publisher recently took to Twitter to announce the giveaway of five custom designed Black Panther Xbox One X consoles, as well as two controllers to go along with each one. It’s a partnered giveaway with Walt Disney Home Video for the digital release of the film, which is available today.

The console, as you can see from the tweet below, is absolutely stunning. It features split images of Black Panther and Killmonger in their respective silver and gold armor plating, with a line dividing them right down the middle. You can also see the Black Panther logo on the front of the system, along with beautifully painted orange on the side.

The controllers are a piece of work too, featuring what appears to be mask details on each one, with the eyes on the grips and stripes all across the front. The Black Panther logos are on these as well.

Now here’s the kicker -- you can actually win one of these systems! Microsoft is giving away all five of these Xbox One X consoles with controllers, along with a 4K copy of the film. You can actually go here to enter, starting by entering your email address and then filling out the following survey, complete with your basic information. Once that’s submitted, you’re entered to win.

You have until May 29 at 11:59 PM EDT to take part so that gives you lots of time to see if you can win some Wakandan pride for your gaming room! Black Panther is available on Digital HD now and will release on May 15 for Blu-Ray and DVD.

The Xbox One X is available now, but we definitely want this Black Panther one as badly as you do.

I have yet to play on an XBOX ONE X. As a consummate Black Panther enthusiast I have the Ultimate Alliance parts one and two for XBOX 360... that and a old favorite Left 4 Dead 1 and 2. I hope Black Panther get a game or two playable on a game console.

If Wakanda Had World Cup Uniforms, They'd Look Like This
Julie Muncy

With Wakanda getting more involved in the affairs of the world after the events of Black Panther, one has to imagine major sports events are on the agenda, right after sharing advanced technology and helping the planet survive alien cataclysms. Which means it’s probably time they put together some soccer teams.

Artist Mark Yesilevskiy, an illustrator and graphic designer based in Buffalo, has some uniform suggestions. Yesterday he shared a winning design for an away outfit (which are called kits, apparently? I don’t really understand soccer.) based on the Dora Millaje. The team, naturally, is called the Black Panthers.

Both pieces are really sharp design, adapting Wakandan visual motifs into the familiar language of soccer uniforms. There doesn’t appear to be any use for Wakanda’s iconic Vibranium in the outfits, but surely Shuri can think of something.

Both of these pieces by Yesilevskiy can be purchased as prints over at his website,  just in time for the World Cup.

Seriously look at the design, its really easy to incorporate into the MU... T'Challa needs his MCU design in comics already

There must be some serious behind the scenes politics at work preventing the full integration of the MCU into the MU. I witnessed numerous occasions at my LCS in which people came in to purchase comic books based on Iron Man and Guardians of the Galaxy only to be disappointed that the comic book vaguely resembled the movie. Marvel has been experiencing this kind of disconnect with their live action and comics since the onset.

Black Panther was a little more unique in the fact that many of the comic book purchasers were interested primarily in getting the Black Panther for his cultural representation, ethnic identification and social impact which many felt was a long over due.

I like to think that a second wave of Black Panther promotions is coming with the release of video games and animated features. It is there that I see the integration of all things Black Panther movie thus impacting on the comic books. It would be criminal not to introduce the style and sensibilities of the film into those forms of media.

Every ounce of your comments above are the epitome of common sense, Brother Ture...which is probably why none of it has really happened yet. For decades, leading luminaries like Priest and Hudlin have said DIRECTLY TO MARVEL EDITORIAL that they should do such a thing. Even Ta Nehisi Coates said that it probably wasn't the best idea to kill War Machine. None of it made the final cut impact on Marvel.

If Milestone ever put out a SUCCESSFUL Milestone Movie Universe [ MSMU ]? That would be the answer to our prayers. Or more accurately...the beginning to the answer. Our answer would be full autonomy and fully explosive moneymaking control of our own creativity, genius, etc. The hiphop of comic books.

The variant where T'Challa's eyes are shown is strongest because we get a glimpse of the man behind the mask.

This is also the way John Romita Jr drew him in 'Who Is The Black Panther'?

Citizen Eco-Drive Marvel Avengers Watches For Comic Con

BY AARON SHAPIRO

This month, Citizen unveiled an interesting new Marvel-themed collection at New York’s Comic-Con event. These Citizen Eco-Drive Marvel Avengers watches center around select members of Marvel’s Avengers including Black Panther, Spiderman, Captain America, and the Hulk. Additionally, Citizen released a watch featuring the vintage panel artwork of classic Marvel comics as well as a watch that is broadly Avengers-themed and focuses on the unity of the heroes as a whole displaying a large Avengers “A” in the middle of the dial.

The two Black Panther-themed Citizen Eco-Drive Marvel Avengers watches feature a Wakandian-style tribal pattern on the dials and hands/indices modeled after Black Panther’s T’Challa’s necklace that featured prominently in the movie. Both watches are highlighted with violet accents, again as a call back to Black Panther’s power to absorb kinetic energy and release it back at his enemies in the form of a violet wave. The chronograph is available on a black steel bracelet and the time-only version comes on a black/violet accented rubber strap – both watches feature black coated cases.

With that said, my pick of the lot as a favorite would be the watch that features vintage panel artwork on the dial. I feel that it’s the truest to a classic comic book fan’s watch, and I have always been an appreciator of vintage Marvel artwork. Each watch in the Citizen Eco-Drive Marvel Avengers collection features Citizen’s light-powered Eco-Drive technology, and Citizen states that prices across the collection will be in the $275–$625 range. For more information visit citizenwatch.com.

Now your children can smell like the Black Panther!

From the house of Marvel, Black Panther is an eau de toilette that makes it possible for little boys everywhere to smell like their favorite king and superhero. Its rich, yet fresh and inviting scent reminds you of the kingdom of Wakanda and its glory.

Black Panther RC Talon Fighter

Head out on make-believe missions to save Wakanda! With 4 propellers, this RC Talon Fighter flies like a drone—plus it looks like T'Challa's. Drone uses 1 rechargeable battery (cable included); remote uses 5 AA batteries (not included). 9 3/4" l x 7" w x 2" h. Ages 4 and up.

Personally I would like a detailed model of the Talon fighter to build. I'm surprised that there are none, not to mention the two other ships that were on display in the film.

Marvel and their gaming people need to rethink and better promote the King of Wakanda when appearing in these mega super heroes gatherings. All will be overlooked however when they announce the Black Panther's new solo game. I can hear Shuri now "Get out of there!; Shoot them down genius!"

Price $259.00

I'd get everything and decorate a room if the had unlimited money. The toys I did buy I gave to "toys for tots". I know characters live and die by how much merchandising they can generate. So I buy then donate. I donate comics too, but I keep #1s and first appearances. Except my BP collection, that I'm keeping intact. And if Priest doesn't cancel for Raleigh, its going to get a whole lot better. lol

An original Black Panther novel centered on Shuri will publish next year

By David Canfield

Shuri is getting her own book.

The Black Panther character brought to life in Marvel movies by Letitia Wright will be at the center of Shuri, a middle-grade novel written by Nic Stone (Dear Martin).

Shuri will kick off a multiyear partnership between Scholastic and Marvel to introduce new original stories featuring Marvel superheroes to young readers. The second book in this collaboration will launch a series: Avengers Assembly, by Preeti Chhibber.

“Marvel’s characters mean so much to our fans because they inspire us to embrace our individual power,” Sana Amanat, vice president of content and character development at Marvel, said in a statement. “As the first title we’re launching with Scholastic, Shuri is the perfect character to highlight this message. She may be a Wakandan princess, but what makes Shuri the ultimate hero is her unique sense of intelligence, responsibility, and determination, ideals that resonate with all of us.”

EW can exclusively reveal the synopsis for Shuri: “Starring one of the most beloved and respected characters in the Marvel Universe, Shuri: A Black Panther Novel follows Shuri as she races against time to rescue the nation of Wakanda. For centuries, the Chieftain of Wakanda (the Black Panther) has gained his powers through the juices of the Heart Shaped Herb, which grows only in Wakanda. Much like Vibranium, the Heart Shaped Herb is essential to the survival and prosperity of Wakanda. But something is wrong. The plants are no longer growing, and their supply is running short. It’s up to Shuri to travel from Wakanda in order to discover what is killing the Herb, and how she can save it.”

Stone made a memorable debut in 2017 with her New York Times best-selling YA novel Dear Martin; she’s since written Odd One Out and Jackpot, the latter of which publishes Oct. 15.

“The first time I saw Black Panther, I fell hard for the witty STEM genius girl who totally stole the whole show (don’t @ me). As I left the theater, all I could think about was how amazing it would be to one day write a book about her, a la Jason Reynolds’ Miles Morales,” Stone told EW in a statement. “Imagine my shock eight months later when I received an email asking if I’d be interested in doing just that. I literally screamed in an airport. Getting to work on this project has been a dream come true.”

Shuri will hit shelves in summer 2020.

Oscar-Winning Black Panther Score to Receive Vinyl Release
By ADAM BARNHARDT

Months after Mondo released Christophe Beck's Ant-Man and the Wasp score on gnarly dual-colored vinyl, the Austin-based outfit has announced their second Marvel Cinematic Universe release. Starting this Wednesday, Ludwig Göransson's Oscar-winning score will be available in a highly-collectible 3XLP set.

Pressed with 180 Gram Silver and Black colored vinyl, the set's jacket features artwork by the amazing Martin Ansin as it showcases Black Panther (Chadwick Boseman), Shuri (Letitia Wright), and Queen Ramonda (Angela Bassett) amongst other characters from the film. The score was a break-out hit, winning an award at virtual every major awards show, including the Oscars (Best Original Score) and Grammys (Best Score Soundtrack For Visual Media).

The latest vinyl set will be available this Wednesday, September 18th starting at 12:00 p.m. Central on the Mondo website. The "limited" offering will be available for $45.

“Over the last 10 years, Marvel Studios has assembled such an incredible array of composers to craft new music for their ever-expanding universe of characters…some who’ve already had classic themes in past incarnations, and some who’ve never had a presence on the big screen,” Mo Shafeek, Mondo Music Record Label Manager, said in the initial statement announcing the series. “We are honored to start our MCU soundtrack series with Ant-Man and The Wasp (one of our favorite superhero themes of the last few years for us was Christophe Beck’s earworm theme for Ant-Man) and cannot wait to see what comes next!”

For those curious, the Ant-Man and the asp 2XLP set is still available for $35 here.

Black Panther is now available wherever movies are sold while Black Panther 2 bows May 6, 2022.

HOT TOYS' SHURI

Introduction
Hot Toys spends the majority of their efforts these days on Star Wars, DC, and Marvel. For some of us, that trio is getting, well, old. Fortunately, they are diving into some of the other secondary characters, particularly in the MCU, giving us some figures to flesh out the display with more than just Iron Man and Captain America.

They are doing a particularly nice job with the film Black Panther. Their latest release is Shuri, Q to Panther's Bond. Based on the early prototype photos, I've been looking forward to this one, and she's finally here.

She started shipping in the last couple weeks in the States, and will run you around $230 depending on the retailer.

Packaging - ***1/2
The box has a nice profile shot of the character, along with some wonderful, colorful graphics. The interior credits card is still a tad dull, but at least the bright colors adds some pizzazz to the list of names.

It's all collector friendly too, with no damage to the package necessary to get the figure and accessories free. There's a simple instruction booklet which comes in handy with the light up feature.

Sculpting - ****
The realism in this portrait is off the charts. The skin texture, the fine detail work in the complex hair, the soft eyebrows and life-like lips - it's pretty amazing.

But it can't just be about realism. There has to be a match to the actor, and they pull that off beautifully as well. I'm betting you can still find a few nits, but any complaints I have are so minor it's not worth discussing. This is exceptional work.

Even the emotive aspects are spot on. The eyes are a little squinted, and she's looking upward ever so slightly. The face is tight, with a stern expression that means business, but isn't overly dramatic or dynamic.

Of course there's some nice work on the costume as well, particularly in the armored neck piece and footwear, but it's the head sculpt that sets her apart from the rest, even for Hot Toys. She comes in at about 11" tall.

Paint - ****
Nothing quite like an amazing paint job to support a terrific sculpt. The skin tone is good, and the match between the face and body is better than usual.  There's little to no bleed into the eyes, and they are straight and even.  The eyebrows are subtle but clear, and the lip color is natural. Even the transition from hair to skin is done well at the hairline.

The make up on the face is worth calling out special. There's a trick here that's tough to pull off. The dots and the thin line down from the lip can't be sloppy, but they can't look like a machine did it either. Too perfect and they'll look fake - any slop and it will be obvious. Hot Toys creates the magic here, getting a look that mirrors something done IRL by hand, but done by a very, very steady hand.

Articulation - ***1/2
The ball jointed neck works a bit better than I anticipated, even with the sculpted collar and neck. You can get some good personality out of it, adding some attitude to most poses.

The shoulders can pop out a bit from the body, giving the arms a ton of range. The elbows are covered by the soft rubber skin, but it's thin enough to cause little restriction. The wrists are pretty standard stuff, and the hands pop on and off cleanly (except for the weaponized hands, but more on that in the Accessories section).

The torso has lots of twist and bend, and the stretchy costume flows nicely. The hips are a bit restricted by it though, due to the low cut crotch. More on that issue in the Outfit section.  The knees and ankles work great however, and you should be able to get and maintain good shallow to medium stances without any trouble.

Accessories - ***
She's not heavily loaded, but there's a few nice extras.

There are five additional hands to go with the relaxed set she comes wearing. There's a set of fists, a set of gripping hands, and what looks like a gun grip right. I'm not sure what you'll use that last hand for, but the others come in handy with plenty of poses. They swap easily too.

There's a small cuff for each bicep, which you can slip on over the arm. They tell you in the instructions to use one of the small tubes of soft plastic they provide in between the skin and the cuff when sliding it into place. I'm assuming that's to avoid any paint rubs on the rubber skin. You can easily slip the plastic out once you have the cuff where you want it.

There's also her bracelet for the right wrist, and of course, her very cool spear. Nice detail work on all these extras makes them a bit better than the average fare.

The big extra is the two Vibranium Gauntlets. These panther head gloves have a blue light up feature, and have two additional hands already mounted inside. Getting these two hands to actually pop onto the wrist pegs is no easy task though, and it took quite a few tries before I was able to get both in place. Once they are, they look terrific, with excellent sculpting and paint work.

The final extra is the Black Panther labeled display stand and support rod.

Light Feature - ***1/2
To access the battery compartment, you simply pop off the top of either gauntlet. It works pretty easily, and doesn't feel like a connection that will wear out or break during use. Under this cover is the compartment and the switch.

You pop two batteries (provided) into each gauntlet compartment. I like how they've reoriented the batteries, making it much, much easier to insert them and more likely that they will keep a good contact with the posts. Once you have the compartment back together, flip the small switch, and the interior of the glove lights up brightly.

This light is very bright, easily seen in even a normally lit room. Because it's fairly easy to get the cover off and on again, it's one of those light up features you may actually use more than once.

Outfit - ***1/2
This was *almost* a four star outfit, but it has one problem that I just can't completely overlook.

The fit is great, and I like the sculpted texture on the plastic sections as well as the texture of the soft goods. The tribal sash looks particularly realistic and sets the rest of the outfit apart on the shelf.

So why the slight drop? When early One:12 Collective figures hit the market, they had a sagging crotch on their tight outfits. I, along with many others, noted it was an issue. They corrected the tailoring and fit, and it's no longer a problem. That saggy crotch shows up here, unfortunately.  It's cut a little too low, and try as I might to slip the material further up the leg, I couldn't correct it. However, with proper tailoring right out of the gate, it never needs to be an issue.

Fun Factor - ****
Add this figure into your Black Panther display and it will improve immediately. She's a terrific character, well deserving of her own figure, and adds a lot to the overall MCU figure collection. Thanks to the nice articulation, you should be able to find plenty of different poses to swap between, and the light up gauntlets add a whole additional level of posing potential.

Value - **1/2
Most Hot Toys figures are in that $220 - $230 range these days, with plenty of other companies using that as their guideline. This is actually one of the nicer figures they've produced lately, making it a sold average value even with slightly fewer accessories.

Things to Watch Out For -
Not a thing. You should probably follow the instructions on putting the cuffs on the biceps with the plastic, but otherwise you should be good to go.

Overall - ****
I'm really happy with this release, and Shuri might just be my favorite of the Black Panther series so far. She's going to look fantastic standing next to her brother on the shelf, and goes to show Hot Toys can do the B characters as well or better than the A's, when they set their mind to it.  Here's hoping to more of the secondaries, even if it's just within the confines of the big three licenses.

Score Recap (out of ****):
Packaging - ***1/2
Sculpting - ****
Paint - ****
Articulation - ***1/2
Accessories - ***
Light Feature - ***1/2
Outfit - ***1/2
Fun Factor - ****
Value - **1/2
Overall - ****

A captivating analysis of the psychology behind Black Panther.

T'Challa the Black Panther won over audiences with one of the most popular comic book movies of all time. The film's success shines a spotlight on hopes and values across cultures and throughout the world because, in spite of the fantastic details and royal intrigue, the hero's story is deeply human. In Black Panther Psychology: Hidden Kingdoms, Dr. Travis Langley brings together a variety of experts to examine the character both in motion pictures and throughout his rich comic book history. Among the topics they explore:

by Michael Heusner November 01, 2019

Kantar analyzed U.S. Google desktop clicks on product listing ads for 2,988 costume keywords."Wakanda forever" was the theme of Halloween 2019, with Black Panther emerging victorious as the most popular costume as measured by paid search clicks. Kantar analyzed U.S. Google desktop clicks on product listing ads for 2,988 costume keywords in order to gather the data. All in all, it was a big year for superheroes, with Black Panther, the Guardians of the Galaxy, Batman, Wonder Woman, and The Flash all securing top ten spots, although Spider-Man failed to crack the top spot, he came in at a respectable 19th place.

Wonder Woman came in second, while the Mad Hatter secured an unlikely third place because people really love Alice in Wonderland apparently. Other popular character choices included Eleven from Stranger Things, Harry Potter, the classic Stormtrooper, and a dinosaur -- because dinosaurs are awesome. Kantar noted that some old school classics made a comeback as well, with a pirate, unicorn, and witch all landing in the top 20.

But not all costumes are created equal, with The Handmaid’s tale outfit, Spartacus, the Teletubbies, and the Headless Horseman all coming in as some of the least clicked out outfits. As far as advertisers, Amazon led the pack for both products listing ads and traditional text ads during the period with a respective 22.8 percent and 17.8 percent click share on the costume keywords. The online retailer did not make the top ten costume advertisers for product listing ads last year, so it's dominance this year highlighted the success of its expansion into different product listing.

Yea the statue games are still a thing, ever since Hero Clix and now the sculps are getting ever more detailed.

In development alongside quantum computing, there is experimentation with VR gear and interacting with 3 dimensional landscapes; similar to the visual effects seen in sci-fi movies such as 'Avatar'; sculptured figurines are gonna be a thing.

Supersized, superhero fun!

Funko is welcoming you to Wakanda… or rather, Wakanda is welcoming you to Funko. The company behind the massively successful Pop line of figurines is opening a brand-new retail location in Los Angeles, and EW has your first look at the massive, Black Panther-themed display that will welcome customers to the store.

Centered around a fully functioning replica of the towering waterfall seen in the Marvel film (the site of T’Challa’s hand-to-hand battles for the Wakandan throne), the display features nearly-6-foot-tall Funko Pop statues of Black Panther (as portrayed by Chadwick Boseman), Shuri (Letitia Wright), Okoye (Danai Gurira), Erik Killmonger (Michael B. Jordan), and a bearded Infinity Wars Captain America (Chris Evans).

Click through to see more exclusive photos of the Black Panther display, which is just one of the many immersive pop culture-inspired sets at the Funko store, located on Hollywood Boulevard and opening to the public Monday, Nov. 18.

'Black Panther' (2010) review: Even harder to follow than 'Suicide Squad'
The animated mini-series tries to cram an entire Infinity Saga's worth of story into six short episodes.
By Laura Kelly on December 7, 2019

In 2018, moviegoers around the world fell in love with Wakanda after the release of Black Panther. With its engrossing story, complex characters, and stunning effects (mediocre final battle scene aside), Black Panther was a smash hit. It even earned an Oscar nomination for Best Picture.

However, most fans don’t realize that the 2018 movie wasn’t Marvel’s first stab at a Black Panther on-screen adaptation. In 2010, BET released a six-episode Black Panther miniseries.

I didn’t know much about the series before and was really surprised that it hasn’t gotten more attention. It has several big names attached: Djimon Honsou plays T’Challa, Kerry Washington voices Shuri, Alfre Woodard plays the Queen Mother, and Jill Scott plays Storm.

One thing to note is the show’s animation style. It’s done in modern stop motion that gives it the look of an animated comic book. It’s meant to be reminiscent of the early superhero cartoons of the 1960s. Back then, this was a cheap way to put together a superhero cartoon without much effort. This would be sufficient until someone could figure out how to do better animation. The movement was very jerky, and the figures seemed to move roughly one limb per panel.

The Black Panther cartoon’s animation is a more modern comic-book style. The artwork is done beautifully, and it’s clearly a much better product. But sometimes the characters’ movements aren’t as fluid as they should be.

I should point out right now that this is not a show for young kids. It’s borderline R-rated violent, it’s not afraid to show blood and gore, and it doesn’t waste any time getting there. In the very first scene, warriors from an enemy tribe are impaled on spiked traps. And there’s plenty of carnage, from blood to dismemberment to heads on spikes. Radioactive Man even shows up and melts a guy’s face right off. It ain’t pretty.

One plus is that we do get to see Storm from the X-Men come help the Wakandans fight off their invaders. In the comics, Storm and T’Challa (and later divorced), but we haven’t seen this dynamic in the Marvel Cinematic Universe — at least not yet.

Storm and T’Challa’s romance is addressed in the show; there’s an entire flashback to the two meeting as teenagers. Apparently, in Wakanda, when a prince comes of age, he gets a sort of bar mitzvah/walkabout. Except instead of a big party where people give you money and presents, this one involves wandering all over the African continent with no food or supplies and praying that you don’t die in the desert. If you don’t die, you’re a man!

During that trip, T’Challa made his way to Cairo where a young Ororo (Storm) tried to pickpocket him. After catching her in the act, Ororo tells her tale of woe. T’Challa forgives her and then frees her from the clutches of the evil guy forcing her to steal. They travel together, and Ororo develops her mutant weather-controlling powers. What a sweet story!

Except, hold up. Yes, in the comics, Ororo and T’Challa do first meet as teenagers during their respective travels. But guess what? It’s Ororo who comes to the rescue. She saves T’Challa from being kidnapped by Andreas de Ruyter, using her already-developed mutant powers.

So yeah, good job unnecessarily turning one of the X-Men’s most powerful members into a damsel-in-distress.

But my main problem with the show is that there is so much crammed into these six, 22-minute long episodes. Too much.

The creators want to address many different aspects of Black Panther’s world, including politics, religion, economics, family relations, etc. That’s great, but nothing is explored in much depth. And with so much happening, there’s not enough time to really develop the main characters (not even T’Challa) and let the audience form a connection. By comparison, the 2018 movie covered all these subjects masterfully while building up its lead characters to the point where you really feel like you know them.

At the beginning of the show, T’Challa is concerned that his jealous cousin will try to take his throne. I was poised to see some real tension and family conflict (i.e., Killmonger). Except T’Challa just appoints his cousin to the U.N. and packs him off to New York. Problem solved. We don’t see said cousin again until the last episode. This Black Panther may be craftier than the MCU version, but it makes for a less exciting story.

The primary conflict involves Ulysses Klaw assembling a superpowered team to conquer Wakanda. Klaw already murdered T’Challa’s father fifteen years earlier, and now he’s looking to kill T’Challa for the throne.

Oh, and Klaw’s team stops by Rome for help from the Vatican. Yep, we’ve talked about politics already, now it’s time to throw religion in there. The Church wants to spread Catholicism in Africa, so they’re totally on board with the whole invasion thing. They even give Klaw a zealot Black Knight with a magic blade to hack up the infidels.

Also, the Americans are sending in troops to help the Wakandans. But not just any soldiers. These are custom-made zombie cyborg soldiers!

They’re the corpses of dead American soldiers slapped together with robotics and cybernetic technology. Really gives new meaning to “Made in America.”

Feeling overwhelmed yet? Because I know I am.

I think this had the potential to be a good show. But it would have been better if it was longer than six episodes. If the creators could have spread everything out over more episodes (possibly with additional seasons) and taken more time to develop their characters, they could have covered all the high points and made something great. Instead, you get a rushed and overly complicated story that fails to say anything particularly interesting.

All of the episodes are on YouTube, so if you’re curious to see an earlier Black Panther adaptation, I’d say to check it out. But in my opinion, the 2018 Black Panther movie is by far the superior adaptation — at least until Black Panther 2 arrives in 2022.

Newbies.

I've read the first two issues and the story hasn't hooked me. It leans more on the alien location, but without a lot of world building to get a good understanding, it's not very interesting. But I'll give it a few more issues.

DC Preview: Far Sector #3

Protecting the City Enduring’s population of 20 billion aliens gets even harder when rookie Green Lantern Jo Mulein is thrust into the middle of a massive protest that’s about to get out of hand. What do the protesters want? The right to feel.

Nora K. Jemisin is an American science fiction and fantasy writer and a psychologist. Her fiction explores a wide variety of themes, including cultural conflict and oppression. She has won several awards for her work, including the Locus Award.

What do you think? Would she be a capable writer for The Majestic Black Panther?

I've read the two issues of Far Sector and I'm not sure. I know that Jemisin is a highly respected writer. I really enjoyed reading her profile in the New Yorker and her take on H.P. Lovecraft. I can imagine her run on Panther would be very imaginative. However I would be concerned that she might also ultimately turn out to be more of the same, just better written. Her Far Sector is very creative though, so far. Perhaps if she took on Storm, Shuri, or Monica Rambeau that would be something. Maybe Blue Marvel. I could also see her doing Captain Marvel or any of the cosmic books.

X-Fans wouldn’t like her writing Storm, she wouldn’t sip the kool-aid and they prefer their storm to be wallpaper that either gets dicked down by Logan or Yukio

Marvel Realm of Champions Adds the Black Panther's Kingdom of Wakanda
by Tim Adams

Marvel Games and Kabam have announced a new addition to the Marvel Realm of Champions mobile game. The Black Panther's Kingdom of Wakanda is the newest house to find itself included inside the Battlerealm.

Queen Shuri serves as the Kingdom of Wakanda's Baron, as she leads the Dora Milaje with their abilities and suits under the Black Panther mantle. Shuri is the daughter of King T'Chaka and Queen Ramonda, and is the sister to King T'Challa.

Unfortunately, King T'Challa was killed when he challenged the Maestro after the villain pulled Wakanda into the Battlerealm. In a show of power, Maestro kicked off an event known as "The Banishment," which almost wiped out all of Wakanda. This is when Shuri stepped up to help rebuild Wakanda in her own image.

With previously revealed Houses inspired by Captain America, Doctor Strange and Iron Man, it remains to be seen what other classic Marvel superheroes will have their own expansive dynasties ahead of the mobile game's launch later this year.

Developed by Kabam, Marvel Realm of Champions is expected to arrive on the App Store and Google Play for iOS and Android devices later this year.

They just don't know how or care enough to make the Black Panther a functional whole of T'Challa, his family, his kingdom and his adversaries.

I stopped playing videogames a long time ago but this would be a hard pass if I still played.

The last best game I played and enjoyed was WARZONE 2100. I'd love to see a game about Wakanda based on that.
