Title: Let's cast an old-school Luke Cage movie
Post by: JRCarter on July 28, 2006, 07:07:10 pm
I've often held the opinion (and some of you might agree with me) that if a Luke Cage movie had been made in the 70's or 80's, casting wouldn't have been a problem, given the amount of actors around at the time who could have played the part. Consider, Fred Williamson, Jim Brown, Jim Kelly, Carl Weathers. Hell, O.J. probably could have played Cage.

Thoughts?

Fred Williamson, Jim Brown and Carl Weathers would all make outstanding candidates for the role of Cage.

Pam Grier would have made a sexy Claire Temple. Perhaps just a little too sexy.

Maybe Teresa Graves ("Get Christy Love"), would be a better choice for the lovely, but demure Claire Temple.

Either Teresa Graves or Gloria Hendry.

Now who would be Willis Stryker aka Diamondback I? I'm thinking Carl Lee from Superfly or Antonio Fargas.

Don't know about Antonio, but Carl Lee is a good choice.

Yes. Gloria Hendry would make a beautiful Claire Temple. She looks intelligent and has that element of soft femininity that Claire Temple seemed to have. Luke was lucky that Jessica came into his life. He wasn't the man for Claire. He would have driven her crazy.

Who to cast in the role of Big Ben Donovan?   :)

Wellllllll......

He looks too much like Andy Griffith to me and I just can't see Sheriff Andy Taylor, Deputy Barney Fife, Gomer, Goober, Aunt Bea in the same light as racist Racham. But you never know. I've been wrong before  :)

Another candidate for Willis Stryker: Glynn Turman. If you ever see "J.D.'s Revenge", you'll see what I mean.

I knew he wasn't Andy Griffith JR. I just thought he "looked" too similar to Andy. I can see if he really worked at it, he could project a really nasty and racist attitude. But he'd really have to work at it. Even in his photo, the man seems to give off a friendly vibe. Maybe it's just me.

Bumping this back up...

I might be the only one who thinks this, but didn't Diamondback (at least in issue 2 of HERO FOR HIRE) kinda resemble Robert Guillaume?

Yaphet Cotto as Diamondback?
Hmmmm...

See him "Live and Let Die" as Kananga/Mr. Big. The most racially offensive of the James Bond stories, sure (movie version only slightly less racist than the original novel), but worth it to see Yaphet as a villain.

Or see him in "Truck Turner" as Harvard Blue.
