Feel The Funk / Re: Prince Markie Dee Passes Away
« on: February 21, 2021, 02:28:49 pm »
The Fat Boys were very underrated in their day and Markie Dee even more so.

When you listen to say, Swing My Way you hear a style and flow that was very contemporary for it's time. But his solo career never blew up like one thought it might.

52 is still young, you know?

Then again, I also can't believe its been 25 years since Darren Robinson/Buff Love passed either.

What’s up fam? To quote the prophet Rakim “It’s been a long time, I shouldn’t have left you!” Hope everyone is well and good during these strange days. Brother Cage.

Good to hear from ya!

It's worth noting that Mr. Pride contracted Covid after performing at the Grand Ole Opery in Nashville in November. While it is undergoing a Covid surge.

It's possible that accepting that Hall of Fame award in person is what got him sick.

This is really f*cking depressing.

On the other hand, I don't feel like Voyager ever got any better and...

You were doing so well until you wrote this and your 'feelings' got involved.   ;)

Hey, would you be happier if I said that Voyager was objectively worse than both TNG and DS9?

There certainly was an clearly inept handling of characters and cast.

They gave Chaotay nothing to do. They gave Harry Kim nothing to do.

Tuvok got little to do considering the series Vulcan usually is the second most important character on a Trek series after the Captain.

Imagine what that show would have been like had the Doctor NOT been a breakout character.

That sounds about right. Both TNG and DS9 got better after the 4th season or thereabouts.

On the other hand, I don't feel like Voyager ever got any better and I saw so little of Enterprise that I couldn't tell you if it ever improved or not.

PS: Enterprise always felt to me like it could have been any other Sci Fi show from the period. Maybe because Scott Buckula (?) was the lead.

I saw him and my mind automatically thought I was watching Stargate, lol

Condolences to his family. 43 is way to soon.

Even a life as accomplished as his.

Way too damn soon.

43 is way too young, man.

Colon Cancer is a beast. Its amazing that he was able to effectively make three movies at once considering how ill he must have been.

Condolences to his family.

Look I lived thru the 80's and pretty much every film back then didn't hide its pro imperialistic message.

Just look at Stallone's body of work. Hell even the Star Wars prequels were supposed to be an anti Bush allegory, but peeps were so unhappy with the movies that they didn't care what Lucas was trying to say about the Bush Administration they were just wondering what he was trying to say about the Jedi ( which is par for the course).

All movies ( and all art period ) are political but it's only an issue when the viewer doesn't like the message.

Anyone remember hom much mileage Marvel and DC got our of their very special "Drugs are Bad" issues back in the day?

Everyone does message stuff.

For anyone claiming Black Panther's message is somehow problematic while ignoring that the Iron Man and Batman films posit that it would be best to allow the driven rich guys run everything is simply hypocritical. And racist on its face, imo.

Health / Re: How Many Caught A Case Of Covid-19?

Although this might be a little bit macabre, given the state of testing in the US, I'm watching the death counts/rates instead of the total number of cases stats. Specifically, I'm keeping an eye on the growth rate in doubling time (How long did it take for the number of confirmed deaths to double?) We're at 3 days according to this source. If that goes up, it's an indication that the social distancing might be working to slow down the spread of the virus. If it doesn't, well, draw your own conclusions.

I'm afraid you may have something there.

The New York Governor states that we are testing more than any other area, but that may only be people with visible symptoms. Since they don't have enough test kits to go around. Last I checked if you were asymptomatic  you couldn't get tested here even if you wanted to.

So the numbers are somewhat worthless.

A lot of my friends in the hospitality industry are gonna take a financial beating because of this as everyone seems to be
saying an Italian style shutdown is probably the way to go.

It doesn't help any that our medical system on a local basis can't handle 100,000 new patients of any kind if a majority of them can't pay for treatment.

It was...fine.

As well made as any piece of cinematic cowardice I've ever seen.

The movie goes out of its way to retcon ALL the most interesting parts of The Last Jedi: (you don't need to be anyone in particular to use The Force, The Jedi and the Sith aren't the be and end all of the Galaxy).

It then replaces them with dopier premises that are kinda badly explained.

Spoiler (click to reveal)
You mean to tell me Ray's Dad is Lord Palpatine's son and this imperial aristocrat can't think of anything better than to strand her on a desert planet

Spoiler (click to reveal)
I get how Lord Palp can build a fleet with the Empire's resources. But how did he do that as a half dead DarkSide zombie at the bottom of a pit? What'd he do create an army of Zombie Engineers?

Oh, Man.

Marv's been a part of this place since forever, tho I've never met him in person.

My condolences to his friends and family.

My Condolences, Reg.

Hurts to think that as much acclaim as he got he was very much under-rated (you really don't hear much about the careers he launched).

It's always hard wrapping your head around losing people so suddenly and at such a young age.

He will be laid to rest the same day as my younger sister's birthday.    She passed away, as well.

My condolences Battle.

Sorry to hear of your loss.

Had Kid Rock or Uncle Kracker (I didn't name the guy) done this remix I doubt Billboard would have a problem calling it country.

That being said I'm not sure if I hate the very idea of this song yet or not...

P.S.: By the way, this happened:

...It’s not as if the students would leave immediately after those cars were flipped. Once they were upside-down, the cars became platforms that could be used to dance on and blast country trap sensation “Old Town Road” from a portable speaker.
