Don't normally post here, but damn there were some good books published this week.
JUSTICE LEAGUE OF AMERICA #11 is just brilliant. One of the best comic book stories I've ever read. My friend Dwayne McDuffie is going to a great job on this book, but this standalone issue raises the bar for all of us in this profession. Gene Ha, who always does a great job (his work on TOP 10 was fantastic) goes to the next level here. Is he sticking around?
WORLD WAR HULK is also great. Greg Pak is doing a fantastic job. And JR jr...nuff said.
NEW AVENGERS is killing it. Bendis is in top form and Yu is also genius. Damn it's a good book.
CAPTAIN AMERICA is so good it's hard to believe it's sustain like it is with the title character not returning any time soon. Amazing.
THE SPIRIT - Darwyn Cooke deserves every award in the world for reviving this character PERFECTLY. Frank Miller is going to have a hard time making a movie as good as these issues.
ULTIMATE POWER - JMS is so damn underrated. And Greg Land is killing it.
THUNDERBOLTS - it's a one shot but well written and Ellis' reinvention of the series is just genius.
BATMAN - Morrison and Kubert continue to produce a classic run on the character.
THE BRAVE AND THE BOLD - Waid really figured out how to make a team up book work, which to my knowledge has never been done. Far more readable to me than COUNTDOWN or 52 or any of those sprawling storylines. With Perez in fine form.
Reggie,
Really not much else to say about Captain America. Your one sentence really sums it up. How is it possible to sustain a truly excellent book absent its title character? I don't know but Bru and Epting have the magic formula.
Really glad to read your props on New Avengers. Lots (and I mean lots) of people seem to dislike Yu's art and, while art's a subjective thinig, I just don't see it. His style seems so perfectly suited to this type of subterfuge type superhero storytelling that it's really a great match up with Bendis' writing and also just outstanding on its own.
I loved Brave & The Bold this month with Batman against the Legion, especially Braniac 5! Each of these issues takes what's happening with different team ups of characters but combined inexorably revolve around and spiral down into a finale that's sure to be a blast. Love the Waid/Perez combo!
