Latest Flicks / Re: DJANGO UNCHAINED
« on: December 26, 2012, 04:33:23 pm »
Went to see this last night and I was pleasantly surprised.  I often ask myself can a white director or writer create an African American character that rings true to me and gives me inspiration? I realized I was asking the wrong question entirely.  If you do your research and hire talented African Americans like Reggie, Jamie, and Sam, it can be done correctly and respectfully.  I don't think this film could have been made with Tarantino and the Weinsteins.  As a moviegoer, I have seldom seen a black  male hero killing whites.  It's a taboo, I only think Blade got the chance and that was vampires.  In this, the slavers were clearly villains like the Nazi's or terrorists and deserved retribution.  Taboo broken.  Django is not only the fastest gun in the south but he also uses his intellect and cunning to turn the tide in his favor.  He could read, and his wife could speak German.  Maybe now, since Tarantino had the balls, we can get some more films and more work for black Hollywood. Django had that black love thing I'm glad they didn't have him get with the the white lady in the big house and stay with his wife!  Magnificent and unprecedented. Phrenology, Mandingo fighting, Django is gun slinging brer rabbit.

The Libya thing is mad suspect.  You can't find the full text of any of Khaddafi's speeches while all the news channels say he's delusional. All the virtues and moderation that the media put forth concerning the Egyptian protest are not happening in Libya.  Peaceful protest in one and an armed rebellion in the other.  Also Libya and Egypt have different economics and social welfare and education.  The Colonel is a hero of the African revolution similar to Nasser, Nkrumah and Lumumba.  America has killed far more Libyans than Libya has killed Americans. All the while their is unrest in Jordan Bahrain and Yemen but little coverage.  The difference those countries are friends.  So dictatorship is okay as long as the dictator is our allie/flunky.  I expected more from this administration.

I thought Marvel was doing black folk a solid with their black content.  I made an effort to collect Black Goliath and most of the Cap and Falcon books.  Knowing how they felt about black and Jewish feelings back then makes me wanna get rid of these books.

I don't like Ryan as Hal and I don't like the new construct GL uniforms.  Hector Hammond is a bad choice for the villain.  DC is dropping the ball again but I think the video game may be cool. I fear this will be like the Spawn film.

Launch Party respect. The tribute to Dwayne was emotional and moving first and foremost.  It was awesome seeing Flex Hectic, Kamala Harris, Reggie, Denys, Ziggy, Michael J White and Phil Lamar! It was black people night on Melrose and it was respectful peaceful and uplifting. My idea of a good night, all things being considered.

I saw the 1st Tron.  This one was a bit derivative.  The tron cycle scene reminded me of the Pod race in episode 1.  Bridges did to much Lebowski and I thought the plane scene with the turret was very Star Wars. 3D Star Wars Lebowski in day glo? Nigga please!

Latest Flicks / Re: White Supremacists Boycott ‘Thor’ over Idris Elba
« on: January 01, 2011, 12:16:43 pm »
I would be mad if they made the Panther God, or Shango or Legba white.  Norse mythology has no Africans in it as far as I know.  I love Idris, I want him to get as much as he can from the game but Heimdall is Norse, Nick Fury, Kingpin is white and so are the Aesir.  As a black man who reads comics I could accept a Thor film without a black retcon.  Here's to promoting existing black Marvel characters in their own vehicles, but blackening your white lineup to appear multicultural c'mon Marvel.

Black Panther / Re: Which villains do you want the Panther family to face?

How about a Marvel DC soul brother crossover where Gorilla Grodd and M'baki team up to take out the Panther. I wouldn't mind the Wrecking Crew, or spme Luke Cage villians like Chemistro etc.

Just finished watching episode six and all I can say is that this is the shiznit!

Things you will see in the BP animated

African religion
African family love
T'Challa's air bike
Brother President !

This is one of the few examples of a film or animated where the African people win!  It's monumental, groundbreaking and astounding and it makes me feel good to be a brother now "get outta my way!"

Good job RH!
I liked the animation and the staying true to JRJR's art.  For the critics its like Health Care we have to start somewhere and work towards improvement.

Latest Flicks / Re: Racial Allegory in 'District 9' sci-fi film

Sisters prostituting themselves to another species, Africans eating another species.  If thats not racist then what is.  Then the Mafia leaders name is Obasanjo.  I understand that South Africans and Nigerians do not get along so well but really.  Has anyone on this board ever studied racism because few of you seem to have a good grasp upon what is and is not racist not saying any names but you could use a university class or two on the subject.  When African inhumanity is depicted we are the thug the prosititute the shanty town dweller and the gangster.  Africans are not perfect, Africans do some bad things but News flash so do Caucasions but I have yet to see the film where whites are portrayed as cannibals prostitutes and subservients, hmm why is that?  I mean Chikatilo the russian ripper he was a cannibal Garrido raped a girl for what 19 years. I'm really disapointed by the responses about this film.

It was dope when Obama went to Africa as a senator and even better as the president.  I thought it was great for the kids to see Africa up close and personal.  It's one thing for a white president to go Africa and witness the artifacts of slavery it's another for a black president.  I was almost in tears thinking about the significance of the first family in the mother land.  All African Americans should make a trip if they are able.

I understand him going to Ghana and not places that are feeling unrest and turmoil right now, I'm glad he went to western Africa because of the connection many African Americans have with that area, I mean we're from there.  Going to west Africa where we originated and not East Africa where his father is from showed his respect for the history of Africans in America.  I like being respected.
