Latest Flicks / True To The Ghetto-fabulous
« on: September 17, 2017, 12:48:39 am »
The story was in fact a very good story and at a certain point, in the middle, I suddenly had a tear in my eye
But something was lost in the translation from the (popular) book to (non-advertised) movie
I only knew of it when it popped up on my Fandango list as made in Philly
With that said there was some intangible that fell short
Like the plot line was too rushed
Making Ghetto-Fabulous
Just ghetto

A book

Think I may buy the book

I was just told I could not use the name "OJ Simpson" as part of a title for a book
I thought "OJ" fell under the public domain
If kept short of slander
.
Am I wrong?

Latest Flicks / Re: "It" Stutters

I thought the remake was pretty good. Not as good as the 1990 miniseries, but still one of the better Stephen King adaptations. My quibbles with it are small. I thought the actor playing Pennywise was good, however I think he was a bit too eager, too early on.

Also I think the character lacked because the movie/story didn't set any limits for him. So it made little sense for him not to kill the kids when he had them one on one, outside of he wanted to play with his food or that making them more scared made them taste better. However if Pennywise is very hungry would he waste time playing those games? Or would it be an issue of quantity and not quality. From what I take of it, he's trying to get full before he goes away for 27 years.

My other quibble was the treatment of the black character. In the 1990 miniseries they clearly showed that Mike was attacked for being black. But that was never mentioned in the remake. He was described as being home schooled.

One You Tube reviewer I listen to pointed out that Mike's role among the teens as the town historian was given to the tubby kid. I couldn't quite remember from the 1990 It but yeah, I think it was. Even in the remake, toward the end, we see Mike talking a bit about the town, however he wasn't really allowed to be the 'smart' kid in this film.

Mike did get one big heroic moment-which was cheered by some in the audience I watched the movie with-but generally he was mostly an afterthought throughout the film. I think the 1990 miniseries handled his character better.

To a fair degree it was a bonding with my kid
And it was the movie of the week...so
He said that it wasn't that scarey
I saw a routine clown story
"Forced" characters
& Weak acting
The Trailer
BRILLIANT

General Discussion / Eclipsed By Mother Nature
« on: September 10, 2017, 12:54:09 am »
My beliefs in Nature begin largely with Race, transformed by Paul Simon
And then that Genesis 2:17 stuff, I have come to respect Mother Earth
Paul Simon has a line, "The Northern and the Southern Hemispheres
Led me to see it in a non-racial ("black" and "white" at least) way
Simply put the global cultures, along a north and south divide
See the System of civilization and the rhythm of the Earth
Different in so many ways beginning with "Good Hair"
My boss, took "Eclipse Day" off to the Jersey shore
He told us he noticed the temperature change
At which point I then snapped my fingers

Too funny

I just mentioned him last Wednesday to my Union reps
The subject was a race complaint in a nearby office
I told them that God was White with Good Hair
They were shocked also by Johnny Carson
I told them he had said the "N-Word"
Not in a bad way I assured them
He was interviewing Pryor
Or was it Dick Gregory
.
PS: True story

As I spoke to my Union reps I told them Race relations have been stagnant since 1968
They responded asking if I really believed what I just said to them
I told them yes when a younger Black interrupted
For a few days though I wondered
Then I realized the reaction
Of Mr. Barack H. Obama
Was Donald Trump
Nothing changed
Since 1968

Whoopi should push for a Sunday evening program on Disney featuring Song Of The South and the return of Amos and Andy to television.

I've heard it said
Amos and Andy were no worse
Than Jackie Gleason's Honeymooners was for Whites
.
In our 'justified' search for fairness we have chased the real talk off the radar...like Trump

11
Terrible idea.  Leave it buried.

I have long believed Disney is the Whitest thing in America
I also believe his most direct portrayal of Blacks
Could change the very definition of Race

This most likely is a great movie with good cinematography and direction
But as I watched it I could not see the pretty women
I could only see one thing
INTENSITY
