Black Panther / Re: Where is the Blue Marvel?
« on: February 24, 2013, 05:37:06 am »
I think Marvel is intimidated by him or the writers are. It seems like they like using black characters with boundaries like Luke Cage or Black Panther. A black character who's cosmic level  and can stand toe to toe with Thor or Gladiator, they want nothing to do with. Why? I heard on Matt Fraction's run on the Mighty Avengers he planned to have Blue Marvel on the team, but his run was cut short before that could happen.

I would like to see Blue Marvel as a member of The Avengers or maybe his own ongoing series, but no one at the moment knows what to do with Blue Marvel. The last thing I want to see is him being used as cannon fodder because the next big Marvel event calls for a hero to die.

Spike never cared for Blaxploitation films or pulp films. Django would fall under the two.

I seen the film this weekend. It reminded of Fred "The Hammer" Williamson's flicks back in the seventies. Who here has seen Boss Nigga? I wouldn't mind seeing a sequel of Django Unchained either set during the Civil War or after it.

The thing I like about Spike Lee is he isn't afraid to have an opinion or to make a stance that many view as unpopular or controversial. He does so without the approval of others and what people will think of him. He carries the same furor with his opinions like he does with his films.

Now I can see why he would say Slavery isn't a Spaghetti Western. I remember reading Spike Lee's autobiography and he wasn't a fan of blaxploitation films. Spike's mindset is more black middle class and the everyday struggles they go through dealing with society and each other. I suppose he could've chatted with Tarantino in private about his film and the choice to use the N word in most of his movies, but it wouldn't be Spike if he did cause controversy or speak his mind.

If any of you seen Bamboozled thirteen years ago, the character in the film, Mr. Dunwitty is like a parody of Tarantino taken to the extreme. I like both filmmakers equally.

Other Comics / Re: The power of a Black Green Lantern

They should give John Stewart his own title. I mean he could still be featured in GLC, but if this is all about the New 52 they should do this right. Here's how I would do John Stewart if I was writing him. I would make him a special agent in the GLC where he would go undercover or on diplomatic missions across the universe. Some of these missions would challenge his values and beliefs and reevaluate his purpose as a hero and a Green Lantern and what it means to wear the ring and responsibilities it comes with it. The GLC, IMO is something akin to the CIA or FBI so I would go further with this concept and use John to tell stories that feature intrigue, suspense and mystery. Some missions will be of a top secret nature but all of them are high risk and have moral consequences.  The appropriate title for this series would be MYSTERY IN SPACE.  I know this title in the past has been associated with Adam Strange but if this is the New 52, they should give the title to John Stewart. DC needs something like Space Noir or a spy book who perfect to headline it than John Stewart. He could be the Alex Cross of the DCU.

Sounds like a great panel. I'm only four hours away and I would attend this but I have a prior engagement. Damn!

Nice website. The series that are listed on the site have the potential to go far! I can see that Sorority book as a TV Drama on CW and Bulletproof Knights as a big budget action movie.

I need to go to one of these ComiCons. I'm saving for it right now!

I enjoyed the article. I could relate to the naive idealist part. I often go into situations with that in mind and then get disillusioned when the person reveals their "true colors" so to speak.  Nowadays, I find myself getting frustrated when you go into a meeting and the person interacting with you isn't use to dealing with blacks on a daily basis. The business meeting becomes awkward when the person throws tons of race-related things and I'm  thinking, "Can we talk about something else?"

I often try to give my POV on the race thing to certain people at these meetings who would ask but as soon as things got uncomfortable or unfamiliar to them, they would change the subject. I hated that and after my last meet I vowed that I wouldn't discuss race-related things as the people who tend to be the most sincere about it, aren't and the people who front like they want to know, aren't interested other than hearing the sound of their own voice.

I always wanted to see a battle between Kingpin and Black Panther. Seeing as Vlad was an employee of his I expected Kingpin to show up at some point. We'll probably learn that he was watching T'Challa the whole time. I hope we see a team up between Black Panther and The Punisher. I often wondered how they would work together and what the one would think of the other.

T'Challa subbed for Murdoch before so it is possible. Plus him and Matt are friends, even though we haven't seen them hangout in years.

I would like to see The Patriot and Josiah X guest star in a future issue of Black Panther. Josiah isn't being used anywhere and he would make a good supporting character in Black Panther.

I would like to see Achebe comeback and take advantage of the poilitical chaos in Wakanda. I could see Norman Osborn backing Achebe's move to subvert Wakanda and make it a puppet regime with HAMMER backing him up. Also, Loki could be in the story and form a side partnership with Achebe to piss off Norman.

I would like to see Black Panther and Frank Castle aka The Punisher cross paths. I wonder what T'Challa and Shuri would think of him?

He did. It would be great if he did so currently.

Iron Fist needs a break, so have T'Challa alternate if he likes.
