The only potential contender that even comes to mind is When We Were Kings because let's face it, MA > MJ.

But the full access nature of the footage over the whole season and pulling back the curtain with perspectives from 20 years later, yeah, that's tough to beat. This joint is such a soap opera with so many interesting characters.

I'm definitely watching it again.

By the way, is it just me or is Ron Harper barely there? I wonder why that is...

Feel The Funk / Re: Versus: Predictions/Nominations

This weeks matchup is Erykah Badu vs Jill Scott

Prediction- Erykah Badu is not only unique, she is uniquely Erykah Badu. What she was able to capture with BADUIZM became a cultural moment. Most people can tell you where they were and what was happening in their life when BADUIZM came out. Jill Scott is a great singer and performer who has a great catalog of songs but she doesn't have a BADUIZM. If this came down to a performance I think Jill Scott wins hands down but for this battle

Winner- Erykah BADU

Just wanted to say that I agree with all of this 100%. I can't find a nit to pick. Well said.

Fitness / Re: HOW ARE YOU STAYING FIT IN LOCKDOWN?

I'm social distancing on my bike. There's a beautiful trail that runs alongside a river about a mile away. I'm looking to get up to 50 miles a week.

I'm also staying up on my body weight exercises (pushups, crunches, planks, and lunges) and stretching. These are mostly done in quick breaks from working. I'm thinking of getting a resistance band set to supplement that workout.

South African Man and Foot Stompin' Music were some funky ass records. I remember hearing them on the radio (WESL).

Also, I didn't know until recently that Ray Parker, Jr. and Dennis Coffey were in his band.

Just watched GODFATHER 2 with my son.  He loved it.  I loved watching him love it.  And get it.
Wow. But then, of course he gets it. He is your Michael.

I feel like I'm enjoying #BlackAF way too much. But there it is.

what is the general narrative of the show about?
You would think that would be a straightforward question, wouldn't you?
Here's my take on it:

It's satiric version of Kenya Burris' life-ish. The conceit is that his daughter is filming a project for admission to film school so she has a camera crew. Burris' character is kind of a black Larry David. It's kind of a heavy lift but I'm laughing out loud a lot.

The Parker books are page-turners; fun, fairly quick reads, but still with far more depth than the DeBerg/Wahlberg reboot, as Curt deftly elaborated.
Again, I fully agree with this assessment of the reboot vis a vis the books. (And thanks, Mont)

Using the EPIX free trial to watch:
The Godfather of Harlem
Pennyworth

Both are pretty entertaining. I'm also watching some of the old Spenser episodes on Amazon Prime.

Health / Re: How Many Caught A Case Of Covid-19?

Although this might be a little bit macabre, given the state of testing in the US, I'm watching the death counts/rates instead of the total number of cases stats. Specifically, I'm keeping an eye on the growth rate in doubling time (How long did it take for the number of confirmed deaths to double?) We're at 3 days according to this source. If that goes up, it's an indication that the social distancing might be working to slow down the spread of the virus. If it doesn't, well, draw your own conclusions.

I'm afraid you may have something there.

The New York Governor states that we are testing more than any other area, but that may only be people with visible symptoms. Since they don't have enough test kits to go around. Last I checked if you were asymptomatic  you couldn't get tested here even if you wanted to.

So the numbers are somewhat worthless.
Exactly. The cases detected might tell us something about the availability of testing but certainly nowhere near an accurate representation of how widespread the virus is. We would need a regimen of randomized testing across the country to really know that. Which would require general availability of the test for antibodies that can tell if you've already had it and recovered as well as if you're currently infected. Until then, it seems to me that deaths due to CV is the most reliable stat we have.

I watched the whole thing. It includes some stuff I never knew and expands on other stuff I had heard. It turns out a friend on mine used to work with this guy at Arlington National Cemetery so he's been telling me about this series for a while.

I agree with Kimoya. Parker's Hawk is very much an independent contractor and his own man to an extreme. Occasionally, he and Spenser help each other out or have common interests but he's never a sidekick. Parker also has this mystique about some kind of honor code shared among them and other characters where one's word is bond (Henry Cimoli, Quirk, Belson, a few others). When Hawk is introduced in the Spenser series, they are on opposite sides but Hawk's code of ethics causes him to side with Spenser against his lacking-in-honor employer of the moment. The conceit is that they are almost the same except for Hawk being black and having fewer scruples than Spenser. It's interesting but problematic as you might expect.

(I've read far more of them than I care to admit...)
