I remember way back in a discussion about Blue Marvel we talked about Ewing's project with the new Ultimates team. With some of the criticism's of Coates "Panther" thus far, I expected to see more comments about this book. Afterall, they are the catalyst for Civil War 2. I personally, like it and the way they depict T'Challa and Blue Marvel though I want to see more of Spectrum. I actually am starting to like (let alone pay attention for the first time) Captain Marvel. I really hope this book gets a good following and continues for awhile.

Other Comics / So what's up with Blue Marvel?

I know BM was kind of stuck over on Luke Cage's Avengers team for awhile and had some lackluster appearances. What happened at he the beginning (The end of 616?) of Secret Wars with him and any rumors if he is going to be around in this "new" universe of Marvel's?

Whenever I see this, I just keeping getting flashbacks of when I was a kid waking up early on Saturday to catch monster movies and watch his "Royal Green Badness" go to work on Japan. I can't wait for this to hit the theaters:

...and hopefully it won't be as bad as that Mathew Broderick adaption.

"Snyder took the stage at the Warner Bros. panel to announce something and brought up actor Harry Lennix to read a special message.

"I want you to remember, Clark," Lennix said, "in all the years to come. In all your private moments. I want you to remember my hand at your throat. I want you to remember, the one man who beat you."

And with that famous speech from The Dark Knight Returns, Snyder unveiled the logo below. No further details were announced but WB has revealed that Amy Adams, Laurence Fishburne and Diane Lane will return along with the Man of Steel himself, Henry Cavill."

Good action flick. I was originally not going to go see it until I heard alot of folks saying to ignore the movie critics (as usual) and go see it. Body count was ridiculous but it really was good adrenaline rush. Alot of established actors in this flick too, I was surprised. The surprising thing is that I didn't realize Antoine Fuqua directed it. I lost faith in his action movie directing abilities after that flop 'Tears of the Sun'. Well, this movie more than made up for that.

Latest Flicks / Milestone in Young Justice now?

Okay. Don't know if it was a repeat I saw, but I was watching "Young Justice" on cartoon Network a week ago and the episode introduce Rocket as a new member and showed Icon being accepted into the Justice League. Anybody else catch that?

Latest Flicks / The Thing

Wasn't going to see this at first because I was getting mixed reviews about Paranormal 3 and I wanted to see a good horror flick for Halloween. I thought, "Why make another remake?". In fact, a remake of a remake. Turns out it wasn't a remake but a prequel to the John Carpenter film. Was still skeptical at first, but ended up liking the movie. Good, neat plot that ties into the JC movie. I kept thinking I'd find holes in the plot, but my inner questions always seemed to get answered as soon as I thought them up. "What happened to person X" or "What about what happened two scenes back?" were always answered. It's like the writer and/or director made this movie from the viewpoint of a skeptical viewer. I also was pleasantly surprised the flick had just enough suspense, gore and things that made me jump a little. Haven't had a movie satisfy me like that in a long time. I'm surprised this movie didn't do better.

If you're a fan of the old John Carpenter film or just want to see a good Halloween film tonight, I recommend seeing The Thing. Just remember not to leave yet when the end credits start to roll.....   ;)

Latest Flicks / Battle:LA - Off the chain!!!

This movie was full of cliche and the script wasn't too original and almost came across as a Marine Corps enlistment video, but other than that, this movie rocked! Think of Independence Day meets Black Hawk Down with a touch of Private Ryan. Some say it was like District 9, but I disagree other than the sci-fi look was similar. I was really surprised that the movie was good. The critics trashed it, which only continues to confirm my belief that you should never listen to the professional movie critics. Seems like all the normal reviews from average movie goers was positive about the flick. This movie probably should have been a summer blockbuster with regards to all the action. Pretty much non-stop from the opening scene on. Of course,  you had your little emotional moments through out, but none of them were very long. The movie wasn't overly cerebral either, but how many action movies nowadays are? I like Aron Eckart's role and I'm glad he got a strong lead role to follow up his performance as Two Face from the Dark Knight. He played the part well. The other stars like Neyo and Michelle Rodriguez were alright, but overall I wasn't disappointed. The movie, of course sets up for a possible sequel, but the question is would it be Batle:LA 2 or Battle: New York or Battle: somewhere else based on the synopsis of the film. You have to go see it to understand.

If you like big action movies, sci-fi flicks or "band of brothers" type movies, this one's for you. Ignore the critics like Ebert and the other knuckleheads who talked bad about the film in the papers and such. Listen to the regular folks who actually went to see it. You won't be disappointed.

Latest Flicks / Predators

So, I saw the trailer for the new Predator movie coming out. Adrian Brody and Lawrence Fishburne star in it. This time the movie takes place on the home planet of the predators. It looks okay based on the teaser. Robert Rodriguez is directing.

I know there is another thread about the Blue Marvel with a petition, but it doesn't seem to be getting any real attention. I am surprised. When the character and mini-series was introduced we were all on here praising Greivoux and Marvel for finally having a Black character that was in the same league as Thor and the Sentry. Now the character has vanished without so much as a whimper and nobody seems irritated. What the heck happened? We now have one of the most powerful characters in the MU and he just disappears??? DC is doing the same thing with Icon. McDuffie introduces him and them no one wants to use the character in their stories?

I don't want to pull any "cards" here, but it sure is interesting that two black "supermen" have been introduced and now they are gone into limbo. I guess I shouldn't be surprised....

Hudlin TV / Brazilian BET?

I found this article about a Black Brazilian television channel that just started up. It seems to be related to the wave of Affirmative action policies that are being presented in Brazil to level the playing field for Afro-Brazilians:,12462,1647204,00.html

Hudlin TV / The Batman..anybody watch it?
« on: September 25, 2007, 12:21:44 am »
I found out about the new Batman cartoon a year ago when a Halloween special came on, Batman vs. Dracula. The animation is nice but it definitely wasn't the same Batman from the JLU series. Anyway I started watching the show from time to time and actually started to like it. Alot of the villains have been reimagined in one way or another but the series is actually ok. The series started out with Batman going solo, then eventually Batgirl teams up and then Robin. Last season he teamed up with Martian Manhunter and he joins the Justice League.

Well, I caught the season premiere last week and guess who is teaming up with him now? Would you believe Superman?!? But that isn't the best part. In this two part episode you have Superman, Lois Lane and Lex Luthor and the same voice actors from the JLU series are voicing the characters! Now, Clancy Brown was already on the new Batman series voicing Mr. Freeze, but it was really cool to hear him reprise the role of Lex Luthor. The only downside is that Batman is not voiced by Kevin Conroy in this series so he is the only unfamiliar voice to longtime fans.

General Discussion / Sambo's - The Restraunt?
« on: May 23, 2007, 01:17:37 am »
Does anybody  remember a restraunt chain called Sambo's. It was big in the South for many years. So far, only one other HEFfer rembers and he is the first person in along time that I discovered that seems to remember like I do. Does anybody else who grew up in the seventies or earlier remember this place?
