Latest Flicks / Gina Prince-Bythewood's Beyond The Lights
« on: November 23, 2014, 04:37:53 pm »
Did anyone get a chance to see Gina Prince-Bythewood's Beyond The Lights?

I saw it this weekend and enjoyed it.  If you saw and enjoyed her previous works, "Love and Basketball",HBO's " Disappearing Acts" you will most likely enjoy this as well.

Listening to an interview conducted by Issa Rae, on how she put the film together makes for an interesting backstory as well.

Hi guys -

Whoever is in NYC this coming Monday, George Clinton will be at The Museum Of The Moving Image, signing his new book - Brothas Be, Yo Like George, Ain't That Funkin' Kinda Hard on You?: A Memoir  and screening Reggie and Warrington Hudlin's film Cosmic Slop on October 27th.  The event will be moderated by James Mtume.  I'm going to try and make this..especially now that it's on a Monday and not on the weekend I'll be away.

Latest Flicks / Walter Mosley's Lift
« on: October 23, 2014, 10:03:06 pm »
Hi guys -

Not too sure where to post this being that it's a play. I'm placing it here because Walter's work has been adapted into film.  Please place in the appropriate section, if this is the wrong one.

Just wanted to say, If you live in the NYC area, do yourself a favor and check it out.  Fantastic play! Fantastic cast! Fantastic writing.

The play's title "Lift" really serves as a good analogy as two co=workers discover things about each other and themselves.

If movies are not calling you at the moment, I'm sure this will.  It's cliche to say "this has everything" but really..this play has everything..intensity, suspense, mystique...and a heck of a good looking cast!  Highly, highly recommended!

Here is a link to 59E59 theater, where it is showing.    -

Feel The Funk / Something about the music - George Clinton
« on: July 22, 2013, 12:45:09 am »
We've lost some greats, and we still have some greats and Icons.

Happy Birthday Sir George Clinton!!!!  The best spent money on a concert ever...more than my money's worth.

..."something about the music" that line being repeated is hypnotic.

Thanks, George.

Latest Flicks / Big Words

I just saw the indie film "Big Words" tonight.  Really charismatic cast, and the audience had a blast.

If you're in the NY and L.A. area, give it a try.

Just saw this. Excellent documentary on the background singers of popular music, not credited enough for their work and contributions.

Go see it, or pick it up on disc when it becomes available.

Hi guys -

How do I post stills in the forum. I see the Icon tool but it does not seem to work for me.

Also, when I link to Youtube, the link shows but not the "still" image.

Feel The Funk / Chic
« on: July 07, 2013, 11:38:52 pm »
I know these guys receive their respect, but somehow, In my mind  I feel it's not enough.

Individually and collectively Bernard Edwards and Nile Rodgers were/are a producing power-house.

So much is made of rock bands, deservedly so, I love all music, but Chic as a band seems way down on the list.

Bernard Edwards on bass, Nile Rodgers on guitar Tony Thompson on drums.  Norma Jean Wright, Alfa Anderson on vocals.  Pretty hot and amazing band.

Feel The Funk / The Skins
« on: October 30, 2012, 03:05:32 pm »
I have been making the independent/sub-pop culture rounds these last few weekends.

A band I "love" right now is The Skins.

No one as far as a I know is over the age 20. The youngest member is on drums at 13.

Talented and gifted.  Support 'em if you can.

If you ever have a chance to see Esperanza Spalding in concert, please do.

Her performance at the Apollo Theater on Saturday was great!
