I watched Freestyle Friday Finale last Friday and I was very disappointed. The segment didn't quite measure up to past Freestyle Fridays that were more exciting and memorable. I know the format was altered because things were getting out of hand language wise, not to mention a physical altercation between two contestants but when the format was changed the result was a bargain basement version of American Idol. Come on now! Rap for the most part has always been a competitive artform and it disappoints me BET diluted Freestyle Friday. It's like Kool Aid without sugar. Still colorful, but no flavor.
Normally I don't give TV idea suggestions on message boards, but I"m going to make an exception. Return the orginal format of Freestyle Friday, but have it take place in a ring with the competition going three rounds. Put a referee in the fray to maintain order and let the participant know that if they break the rules, they'll shut off the contestant's mic.
I can't think of any other ideas at the present but I'll come back and post as I think of them.
