from GAWKER:

"If anybody without enough melanin says it, it's a horrible thing. But when black people say it, it's affectionate."

This is a terribad argument in favor of white people calling black people niggers. Listen, it's absolutely legal for white people to call black people niggers so the only thing to argue against is the public backlash from using it. They feel they should be able to say it without proper context and not get any negative reactions.

Please Dr. Laura, define a nigger to me from your perspective. I have a hunch it's not going to be your homeboy.

Personal attacks on other board members are not.

Personal attacks on sports people are though.

In other words, hate people I know the least about? Can do.  ;D

Why a "wtf" to 11-10? Yes, it's a first but I fail to see the wtf-element of it. MyThe Eagles had a tie that I didn't even know could happen. Now, that is wtf-worthy.

The worst thing about homophobes? Not only are their arguments retarded, they're repetitive.

I think this is the conclusion that this thread will come to. Almost no one can effectively use intelligence and common sense against circular, moronic straw-men arguments; the straws are gathered up and reassembled into new and even more raggedy arguments each time they are bitchslapped down.

Well at least we can still mock them.

---is it really marriage?  ...or is really about violating one's civil rights?  Which is it?

B, I think what you're confusing are the uses of the term marriage. Other than religious marriage there is legal, non-religious marriage that grants couples essential rights in the US. It's the latter that same-sex couples are advocating for.

Marvel women tend to be sexy, tough and clever but not supersmart.

Good point, and I think she ranks well in these basic categories for MU's female superheroes.

Yeah, I don't think exploring magic would make the character much more interesting. I think her main abilities are enough although it's nice to know that she has that potential.

I think it is silly as it is unintelligent to deny same-sex couples the rights to be legal spouses.

Yeah, the Sarah Palin bashing is firmly in the realm of tomfoolery now. Some serious journalists are becoming gossip columnists with all the "Palintology" studies.

Hard Choices / Re: HARD CHOICES: Goodfellas vs. Casino
« on: November 06, 2008, 06:46:54 pm »
Best Hard Choice ever. During the '80s and '90s DeNiro, Pesci and Scorcsese were masters in filmmaking. Goodfellas is my favorite movie period and Marty is my favorite director so I'm going to go with Goodfellas. I won't begin a rant on how awesome Goodfellas is, but if you haven't seen it--do so ASAP. I enjoyed Casino very much. However, either it was Sharon Stone's acting or Ginger's character but that performance was the only (but significant) nuisance for me. One of my favorite scenes was the meeting in the desert (beginning from the garage run to the sand in face). I actually memorized it because it's so cool.

I'm so glad Martin Scorsese finally got his Oscar, but we all know he's the best with or without it.  ;)

I still cannot find the right words to express my feelings, but I'm also happy Barack Obama won. I was especially happy when his sobering speech reminded us that now we have to get to work to improve the United States.

Louis needs to get his facts right, Sen. Obama was born on Krypton and sent to Earth by his father Jor-El. End of Story.
