Black Panther / Re: Black Panther's Agents of Wakanda
« on: March 05, 2020, 11:24:00 am »
Yeah it lacks direction and I care nothing for the characters save  T'Challa and Okoye, the stories being these two parters doesn't work because it doesn't give any time to dive into a story or develop anything before it's moving on to the next plot. Which, if the story is boring then sure it's good to move on from it. But it also feels like there's very little effort being out into it and it shows

This they should just made a real BP & Wakanda /Marvel team up book & not half assed it with this book.

Redjack, or R H himself are who I champion

I have to also agree with MoS. So far none of the female writer's have been able to write T'Challa in a compelling manner or could resist the urge to to throw shade or in Nnedis case, completely  changed Shuri from a determined and capable queen/ warrior into a whiney, bratty child.

The only female writer who didn't throw shade was Eve but even then when she had iron heart and Shuri meet, Shuri was acting like a teenager like her rather than an adult.
Basically the track record for female writer's on BP have been filled with agenda's that don't do any favors for T'Challa.

Hill, I don't know. His character moments in killmonger were excellent, however he chumped Erik hard in favor of bullseye and kingpin. And really didn't give us anything other then stereotypical angry Black man. He didn't show why Erik was dangerous and a threat to T'Challa or Wakanda, and at the end with Knight he just showed how petty and troll like he was to her and it didn't make any sense at all.

Hill should of put Erik in California and created a crime boss for  him to take down and really expand on how he used his experience to hone his anger into a weapon and earn the title killmonger. He should of expanded on the comment Ross made in the MCU about how Erik racked up kills like it was a video game

I haven't read the whole Killmonger miniseries so I can't speak on that. But I do have to say that while I feel better with Hill writing Panther than Coates, I can't say he's been 100% on writing the black male superheroes I've read. I think his Michael Cray has been the most bad ass. Of the issues I've read each one he's taking down an evil version of a Justice League member. As for Black Lightning, he's not really been given a moment to shine when it comes to his power or really being shown taking full control of the Outsiders, but the character work between him and Katana is good. Likewise, his character work with Duke Thomas, though not getting the kind of focus as Lightning yet hasn't been bad either. Right now, Duke is grappling with his fears over Hill's villain Karma, and it doesn't feel like a chumping yet. Now, if it keeps going on I might have a different issue.

Like those who are concerned about writers pushing the agenda unfortunately I think that's the kind of writers Marvel is putting on these days. Perhaps one of the veterans might give us a more vanilla Panther, but one that isn't as much of an agenda punching bag either. Perhaps.

Hill could definitely be a step up from Coates. He just didn't impress me with his killmonger because he didn't show us all the cool stuff about Erik. In fact, like Coates, if you told me that was a new created character I could believe it.

A stomp in the nuts is a step up from Coates. And thanks the Ancestors the nightmare is over.

Black Panther / Re: RISE OR DIE: Rise of the Black Panther #6
« on: June 09, 2018, 11:28:29 am »
So, Rise Of The Black Panther #6.

I have good news and bad news.

The good news is, Narcisse is a better writer than Coates, and this issue is probably the strongest of the mini. It holds together pretty well, although there's a bit of handwaving, and the ending is soft. I'm sure some of you will like the feats Evan has T'Challa & Shuri pull off.

The bad news is, it's still not a very good story. Taken as a whole, it reads like a laundry list of cameos and Easter Eggs. There was literally no need for Namor, Doom, or Storm (for example) to appear in this tale at all, other than a desire to portray as many BP supporting characters and rogues as possible. In fact, there are 4 characters that probably SHOULD have been in this, but were foisted off with dialogue.

I would have been much happier if the Killmonger plot had taken center stage more, and there were fewer bits designed to appeal to long-term fans (or folks who liek to memorize handbooks & wiki pages  )

Anyway, I'm not sure I'd follow him to an ongoing. Dude needs more seasoning. But the point is moot, I guess, as TNC has a stranglehold on the main title (Galley Slaves of the Galaxy), and the only spin-off is that Wakanda Forever mini written by Nnedi Okorafor (who I don't particularly care for). So I'm basically done with comics for a while.

Laters, brothers.

What four characters do you think should have appeared

Black Panther / Re: A huge problem with BP
« on: April 29, 2018, 05:49:01 am »
The reason T'Challa was dealing with it instead of Shuri was that he is the one who first encountered it and it was dealt with by a group of friends/allied.  T'Challa would never hand over a duty.

Keeping it a secret was a strange choice, though.

It makes T'Challa look bad because when they first formed bhe chastised them for being in secret yet he goes along with it where it would of made sense to have Wakanda involved, because then they would of had a backup plan with the life raft sooner. But Hickman had a story to tell. Characters be Damned

All hickman had to do was have a line or two about tchalla not wanting to "corrupt his baby sisters soul" doing what he thought was necessary and what he himself eventually couldnt do.

Meaning he was trying to protect her. Misguided but i could buy that explanation

But hickman has problems at times writing people instead of chess pieces.

To be blunt JHick truely could've gave F less unless ur name  Reed, Doom & Val..

From UtlimtlyTy in Avengers #1 thread CBR

Looks like Odin giving on some props. lol. It being free comic book day is the only excuse for that art. Coates gets a short Cap story in this too.

Has potential but don't trust JA..

If Storm defeats The Advesary does that make Tchalla a supporting character in this arc too?

The title character usually defeats the main bad guy. Or at least is responsible for thwarting his plans.

I'd be okay with a team effort. But Tchalla should deliver the finishing line.

Yeah and more than likely she probably will.. TNC has advertise for her upcoming solo and all..

Wait, what? Chokes is writing a Storm solo? Or she's just getting one? Either way, it'll be a disaster.

Coates announced it at NY ComiCon. Artist is Jen Bartel. No solid news from Marvel though. For contrast, Domino solo was announced and got release date since then.

I think they were planning the Domino solo ( due to her having a LG role in Deadpoop) for awhile to be honest, that may why the difference.. Just like Cable is supposedly supposed to get a bigger push than what are we going on in Solo right now & how we heard for I don't know how long that TNC was is taken over Steve O book which happens in July..

Other Comics / Re: Xmen Red

How did Xmen Red place number 2 in February? Either people really really liked number 1 or there is a bigger Jean following than I thought. lol

Real Jean been more or less dead for over 10 years.. Which marvel lieing ( more or less) multiple times around bringing her back.. That's one of the reasons it's saling pretty well so far.. plus a lot of people have when they return of International X-Men team ( what this book more or less is) & with similar premise ( supposedly not ignoring these characters are more than just mutants & are also many ways more importantly there race and culture & etc, but I wouldn't be shocked if that plot point is dropped that I have zero faith in Xbooks)..

Whaaat?? That was Macchio too. He did a solid solo BP story for movie week. Hopefully Avengers wont go the same way. lol

This why I have no interest in seeing BP hang around Steve O & Tony boy no matter the universe. The brother loses 20-50 points in IQ & will/balls..

Good issue

Great use of the hyena Clan
Once again the T'Challa/Shuri were excellent and desperately needed..
KM was very well written and I'm over all just happy that he was never enslaved/kidnap by Klaw
Look forward to see BP take out the trash in Next issue & hopefully he'll stay in comic limbo permanently after that..

Black Panther / Re: Racism in Black Panther fandom
« on: April 05, 2018, 04:39:02 pm »
I find it incredulous that a few posters and their comments should in any way derail this Black Panther board. If this is your house and I certainly consider it such, there is no way I would vacate this context rich nation we have built in honor of all things Black Panther. If their intent was to disrupt... what a victory deserting gives them.

If attacked for no reason then attack back. Hold your ground and decimate your enemy. Support one another. We are Wakandans. I have seen heavier and much nastier exchanges on this board more than once in all my years here. We weathered worst and still this board stands.

Again respect to Ezyo for going to the forefront of battle by becoming a moderator. That is proactive. Those who left come back and help Ezyo defend what you felt needed defending. If what one believes in is not worth fighting for, then why bring attention to the matter in the first place?

It is insult enough that  we have to deal with the nonsense going on in the comic books, especially in the light of cinematic excellence but such disruption here at the HEF....

WE WON'T HAVE IT.
