Without Living Color...there'd be no Chappelle Show.

He could have gotten even more to whip Maleggi who at least has a following of sorts.
Anthony Mackie btw is quietly putting together a nice career.
Did anybody ever get Dante's Inferno?
Big releases this month include:

Metro 3033
Red steel 2
Battlefield: bad company
What will you be playing?
Most of us have a creative streak and of course most of us like creativity, originality, and getting better from any creator's works. But that doesn't always coincide with business models, especially if there is a successful formula. In his own way, TP has been trying to do things a little bit differently, with The Family that Preys and the upcoming Why Did I Get Married Too that looks like it might be a murder mystery, from the trailers anyway, but it doesn't make much sense for him to change it up if people keep buying tickets to support the formulaic stuff he keeps putting out there. If there's a dip in the box office, I think you'll see more changing it up from TP. But until then, I think he'll stick to the formula and I'm sure that Hollywood will want him to stick to that formula too.
Gotta disagree with you here. The films where he tries to break his formula and do something different tend to under perform, WDIGM being the exception. They don't flop, but they don't pull those Madea numbers. I think that's really why he hasn't retired the character. I don't think he can afford to. That's why he won't make any significant changes to his approach to film. He'll lose his core audience. His core audience tends to be, no offense to any fans reading this, very conservative and narrow minded. They don't seem to like change or to be challenged. They gravitate towards the same old stories that justify their beliefs. T.P. preaches to his choir extremely well.
If you think about it, his distinct storytelling style has put him in a creative box. He aimed at a specific audience and pretty much shut the mainstream out. Now, nine films, all of which catered to his particular demographic, and the mainstream ain't really checking for him. He has never broken out and showed the world that he can do something different. It would be like if Spike Lee remade School Daze over and over. This can work. Just look at Woody Allen. He hasn't had a mainstream hit in years, but he has no trouble getting his films made, because his small cinema snob audience will come out and support his movies. But his audience tend to be more progressive than Perry's, so Allen can grow and do different things and they still come out. Perry's fans...well...they want to see
1) a middle-aged man in drag
2) safe, easily digestible traumatic situations usually involving some trifling, abusive, dark-skinned man with pedophiliac tendencies
3) a long suffering woman
4) an obligatory church scene with a real life preacher
5) long musical interludes
You nailed it.
His upcoming bout in April against Hopkins could be titled "Who Cares...NOW".
