Black Panther / Re: War comes to Wakanda
« on: August 01, 2006, 10:19:44 am »

rhino broke the defensive system of wakanda and made a ''line'' of destruction inside the city . pretty bad-ass
black knight took down some wakandan's military airplanes before the panther defeat him. pretty bad-ass

if not wakanda, but another country of the world, the invasion would have succeded.

Personally, I don't see it.  None of the invaders were taken down by the superior technology of Wakanda.  Rhino was beaten with knock-out gas.  That's hardly something complex.  Black Knight was the closest to being taken down by Wakandan technology, but a) defeating Vatican technology doesn't seem all that hard and b) he was actually beaten when BP threaten to kill his horse if he didn't surrender.  And Radioactive Man was defeated by Black Knight's sword.  Batroc and Klaw's defeats were not at the hands of superior Wakandan technological forces, but the acts of individuals.

Nothing really indicates that no other country could have duplicated or matched their efforts.

Right now the Inhumans are at war with the United States. If the Black Panther cements an alliance then we can count on Black Bolt to have his back. And if Doom thinks it's in his country's interest to support Wakanda...

I really hope that isn't the direction of this book.  Right now, DC is doing similiar storyline where Black Adam is pulling together the nations that don't support the US, though with a different outcome.   (Then again, I haven't heard anyone commenting on attaching Isis--which is the original Storm--with Black Adam, another AFrican man with his own nation.)

As I've said before, I'm not fond of the idea. Aside from being or atleast seeming exclusionary (Which is not cool), it seems forced. Groups based on race are unlike groups based on a common cause (X-men- the improvement of mutant/human relations), nationality (Alpha Flight-works for the canadian government), or a common history/"tragedy" (Fantastic Four-each member was a part of the same accident and were all friends prior to the accident), are held together by the weakest of bonds.

Compared to the aformentioned ties, race just doesn't stack up. Now if all the characters were black and found themselves in a group for other reasons, I could live with it. For instance say the survivors of the Tuskegee Experiment or their children formed a group that wouln't rest until it brought down the US govenrment-That would be great. And its easy to understand why their all black and all together (though race plays a part-only black men were chosen for the experiment [I think], their primary motive is revenge).

How would any of you feel about a group called "White Might"? *Waits for someone to dig up some obscure article about such a group*lol

Even if that is a legitimate problem, a common cause is easily settled by a storyline.  The team formed to deal with something that requires a completely black team, like the need to infiltrate an all-black organization.  Once that is dealt with, they decide to stay together.  OR Falcon decides to put together an all-black team to serve as role models in his community.  Or some idiot tries to attack Cage, while he's playing poker with Capt. Monica, BP, Falcon and Storm.  And suddenly we have a team.  And I'm sure a thousand other storylines would provide this common cause, if it is really needed.

really this spidey withou a secret identity is absurd IMO. ok, you have good material for 1 or 2 years of stories, and then what??
c'mon the real spidey is Lee/Ditko spidey, and the versions inspired by them.
even the Strascynski/Romita Jr. was cool.

but spidey without a secret identity??
no man, no.

Between this and what they are doing to the FF, I think Marvel is in very close danger of "jumping the shark."

That's the crux of the anti-registration side's argument. it's one thing to allow the gov't to know your identity and powers but it something else entirely when it gives them the ability to conscript you into service just for existing.

Hmm, you know this is sortof funny.  You do realize that this already exists in the real world.  For the better part of the last 30 years or so, every male has had to register for the gov't to have "the ability to conscript you into service just for existing."  At the age of 18, every male has to register for the selective services and with an act of congress, we can be drafted.  Funny, how Cap has no problem with males registering just because they exist.

I've heard a poster on another board claim, "draft during peacetime is wrong."  Technically, the draft during the Vietnam War was a draft outside of a true declaration of war.  But I think it's hard to draw that comparison between the Real World and the Marvel Universe.

Marvel's America has been invaded several times.  Atlantis being the prime enemy, attacking NYC on multiple occassions.  Kang recently invaded and conquerored the US.  Dr. Doom's actions are technically acts of war against the US and in Emporer Doom he suceeded in capturing the US.  Xorn-Magneto captured NYC.  Then there was the Maximum Security incident.  So, this isn't so much  "peacetime".

I heard,

That Bendis total mucked up the whole SHRA. But, as I read BP#18--I see the same thing. Maybe Marvel, needs to better outline the law. Because, as it stands Tony is making people with superpowers--the gov't slaves. This new development that all superpowered people, whether they are heroes or civilians, have to register makes Tony's argument lose its merit and becomes  a load of BS that is going to flush alot of people's lives down the crapper.

After reading the Avengers, I realized what we have here is not a Registration; this is a Draft, but instead of young men, the Draft is for all super-powered beings.  And in the United States, Drafts are both legal and constitional.

Those of you not wanting knowledge of the "minor spoiler", please read no further  :) .......

.......Now then, "Cage, Falcon, Cap and Daredevil"? With that lineup as it is, the "Mighty Avengers" don't look so "Mighty".

I've heard that Wonder Man is a definite member and rumor is that Ares will be too.  That ups the power quotion.

Black Panther / Re: Hank Pym is alive?
« on: July 26, 2006, 06:08:58 am »
It's so good to see HEF back up and running.

I was reading Civil War 3 and just noticed Hank Pym fighting the Black Golaith. Last time I saw him was in the prequel to HoM where he was killed by Scarlett Witch along with Hawkeye. Hank Pym's death was also confirmed during the pages of the Young Avengers through his daughter's backstories. Anybody know what's up that all of a sudden Hank Pym is alive? Maybe I missed something out?

That was Scott Lang, the second Ant-man and father of Cassie/Stature, who died.  Hank hasn't adopted the Ant-Man identity since the mid-70s and that was because Ultron erased his memory.  Scott Lang adopted the Ant-Man identity in a Marvel Premiere issue 47 and 48 from the late 70s.

General Discussion / St. Louis Electricity
« on: July 26, 2006, 06:01:48 am »

I know you hail from (wait a minute, who says "hail from" anymore);  I know you come from the St. Louis area.  If you have any family left in the area, how did they fare in last weeks storms?  I was blessed; my power was only out for 40 minutes, on for three hours, off 11 hours, on 24 hours and then off for 5 hours and been back since Friday afternoon.  Now, if we can just get through the next several days of predicted storms wihout more storm damage.

One nice thing to see is how much people come to help.  On Sunday I saw a line of like 10 Electric Company vehicles from North Carolina here.  I mean, it must have taken them like 30 hours to get here.  They're not exactly neighbors.

General Discussion / Re: Marvel Movies updates
« on: July 26, 2006, 05:52:48 am »
Last week many updates were given on Marvel's upcoming films. While DC's projects are still either mum or in the clouds, I'm excited at how fast Marvel's heroes are progressing.

1) Venom is confirmed for Spider-Man 3. Whoopee doo   :P

At least it sounds like they plan to follow the original comic Venom storyline.

Black Panther / Hulk and BP
« on: July 26, 2006, 05:50:18 am »
Hey, I remember my one of my threads that I posted right before the board rebooted.

Has there ever been a one-on-one battle between BP and the Hulk? If yes, which Hulk.

(And I don't mean this to be a versus thread; I just want to know if it has happened in the comics.)

And we are all "Newbies" again.  :(

So does anyone else remember what we were talking about before the Crisis on Infinite Boards (OK, please excuse a fanboy moment there) rebooted the boards?
