My advice to John Ridley…

Wakanda’s foray into democracy should fail, not because democracy is bad, but because Marvel should resist the urge to try to force their properties to conform to Western, post-colonial political realities. Wakanda’s meritocracy, as originally constructed, with a Bast blessed, noble and supremely competent monarch who is spiritually committed to the well-being of his people has largely worked for them and their development as a technologically unique and spiritual society. Wakanda is yin to Latveria’s yang and the stories stemming from T’Challa led Wakanda, in contrast to 616 at-large, are far from exhausted.

My Two Cents.

Knee jerk reaction was more frustration with the tearing down of T’Challa and, not inconsequentially, Wakanda’s lack of faith in him. However, Ridley has an opportunity here and I am intrigued by the primary focus of the book now being squarely on T’Challa, especially given the MCU’s misguided intention to discard his character.

Here’s to redemption, even if only in print.

Hopefully,

Meh, without T'Challa, I don't really care anymore

I feel this! Marvel needs to do two things before I’d give 1 eff about BP2 and MCU Wakanda;

     1. reveal T’Challa will not be killed (yet again) even if not making an appearance in BP2
     2. #RecastTChalla

My Two Cents.

I AM SO TIRED OF THIS: "LET'S ERADICATE/THREATEN TO ERADICATE WAKANDA!" THING. AARON IS AN AMAZING WRITER WITH INCREDIBLE IDEAS AND ACTUALLY DOES RIGHT BY T'CHALLA...AND IF THIS WASN'T THE UMPITY UMPTEENTH TIME WE'VE SEEN WAKANDA THREATENED OR DESTROYED? I MIGHT BE INTERESTED. BUT AS IT STANDS? NAH. HE COULD HAVE JUST INTRODUCED 'THE INVINCIBLE VIBRANIUM MAN' WITHOUT DESTROYING WAKANDA IN THE PREMISE. THE CONCEPT OF 'THE INVINCIBLE VIBRANIUM MAN' HAS CRAZY POTENTIAL. DON'T USE THIS TIRED PROP OUTTHE GATE, DAMAGING THE ORIGINALITY IN THE PROMISE OF THIS NEW CHARACTER...

Exclusive: Avengers Forever #6 Introduces a New Variant of T’Challa
BLAIR MARNELL WEDNESDAY, FEBRUARY 16, 2022

Last year, writer Jason Aaron and artist Aaron Kuder relaunched Avengers Forever as an ongoing series starring the Avengers of the Multiverse. And the heroes have their hands full with the Multiversal Masters of Evil. But this May, a familiar face is joining the fight and making his debut in Avengers Forever #6. Aaron and artist Jim Towe are about to introduce the T’Challa of a world where he was never Black Panther. Instead, the former Prince of Wakanda has become the Invincible Vibranium Man!

“This issue kicks off a new arc that explores the Pillars of the Avengers, the core of the core, in all-new incarnations from across the multiverse,” explained Aaron. “This first chapter is all about T’Challa, from an alternate earth where Wakanda has been wiped out by the version of Killmonger who wears the Asgardian Destroyer armor and has been raising hell as part of the new Multiversal Masters of Evil. Cut off from his birthright and desperate to avenge his fallen nation, T’Challa must become something surprising and new: the Vibranium Man, a version of the character that takes the Prince of Wakanda to some wildly unexpected new heights.“

Here’s the cover for the issue by Kuder.

Here’s the official description from Marvel.

“INTRODUCING THE INVINCIBLE VIBRANIUM MAN!

On an alternate Earth where Wakanda has been crushed from existence and where the Black Panther is a forgotten legend, one man known as T’Challa will forge a new legacy for himself and perhaps even hope for a planet caught in the grips of the god-slaughtering King Killmonger.”

Avengers Forever #6 will hit comic book stores on Wednesday, May 25

The penchant for destroying Wakanda and disrupting or obfuscating the Black Panther to get some traction on a new tale is trite and tiresome. Produce something new and original to play off of. I also would have preferred a cooler more distinct appellation. Something like Isipho - Wielder of the Gift. just saying... put a little creative effort in, it could pay great dividends. Costume should had paid more homage to the vibraium charged habit rather than to Iron Man. Anyway I hope he has a unique power set and we get a good read.

I remember CJP saying the more renowned T’Challa/BP and Wakanda became the more writers would want to tear them down. He was 100% on target! 🎯 He was prophetic in a way only a comic book industry insider could be.

This is what comes from not being connected, whether willfully or just not cognizant, to BP cannon. T’Challa had to defeat 6 of Wakanda’s most fierce warriors before earning the right to take the hsh! Commitment to the lore should be reflected throughout the entire narrative. If the writer is…unaware, then editorial has the responsibility to check that. Marvel editorial has been shorting T’Challa for years now. This with Omolola is not even the most egregious example. I can see T’Challa not taking Omolola as a serious threat, but the BP #4 narrative did not adequately portray such machination. All in all, Ridley imo, is still a rung above Coates. Here’s to hoping he climbs?

My Two Cents.

I’ve found that Aaron approaches T’Challa with an intelligence and deference that has been sorely lacking in the main BP title  since RH. Certainly more than Coates who’s disdain and lack of imagination rivals that which Roy Thomas displayed, IMO.

Not cool with X-office/Marvel Editorial inventing secret Wakandan relationships with alien races that T’Challa, T’Chaka, Azzari nor assumably any of Wakanda’s Black Panthers (nor Bast) no anything about!?! Not only could it undermine their isolationist sovereignty and unconquered status, but the meritocracy and challenge day as well.

Agreed!

I’m still in disbelief that Marvel could be so stupid and insensitive as to pursue a path that overreacts by killing off T’Challa!?!

No peace,

Exceptional, Brother Ture!

The CJP cover was like a miracle to me, resurrecting this beloved character, unexpectedly after being more or less dormant, certainly bereft of any limelight. His run brought me back into comics.

I think it was CJP who opined the more popular T’Challa were to become, the more likely writers would be to screw around with him.

Happy Holidays fellow Wakandans!

Here’s hoping Marvel/Feige comes to their senses, heeds the wishes of the people and does the right thing…#RecastTChalla

Totally agree Ezyo and love the idea of embedding a tribute to Chadwick!

I still maintain they could do this in keeping with what has already been established. Keep BP2 World of Wakanda largely as is, removing any inference to T’Challa’s death and reintroduce him in mid a post credit scenes a la CJP’s “The Client” first shaking down thugs/informants and then in the post credit reveal intro Luke Charles. I guess this all just makes too much sense though!?!

Ugh!

With the mind of S.I. anything is possible! I love it, show ‘em the way brother!
