Back on topic......think that even the colorists, inkers and editors did a great job on this book and of course the writer and artist were at a definite high point all the way through from inception to execution.

The Crew essentially was largely people of color and written by Priest....it was different and not supported by the masses.  People buy what they support and if dollars from people who talk the talk but don't walk and talk the same are counted then they seem to always come up short.  People who want to see diversity need to spend on diversity.  Support Black owned businesses or create one.

Black Student Stabbed to Death -NIGGER SMEARED IN HIS OWN BLOOD
Marc Lamont Hill @ 10:18 am

Langston Carraway, a 26 year old Black man was found murdered in his apartment in State College (Penn State) on Monday, June 25th. He was found with multiple stab wounds to the neck and chest area. On the wall near his body was the word ‘NIGGER’ smeared in his blood!

Why isn’t this major national news?

According to the few news reports that have picked this story up, none of which explicitly mention the ‘nigger’ marking, police officials and the Attorney General will not confirm that the stabbing was race related. Furthermore, they do not want to release any information about the crime scene or the investigation. (Of course, this hasn’t stopped officials from releasing information about Carraway’s prior drug arrests). Apparently, according to my sources, officials worry that releasing information “would be too inflammatory.”

Maybe it’s me, but the idea of a Black man stabbed dozens of times and left in a pool of his own blood with NIGGER smeared across a 4×3 foot space should be inflammatory!!!

From what I understand, the police are operating from the assumption that this is drug-related offense, as opposed to a race/hate crime. Given the extremely hostile racial environment in the area –State College has a very active Ku Klux Klan, as well as other terroristic hate groups– this is a very troubling assumption. Also, experts have shown how crimes against Blacks and Latinos are frequently deemed “drug related” far too early in investigations.

To be certain, none of us knows what happened in that room. It is critical, however, that we demand more public information than we’re currently receiving.

was out of the game then too found out that Marvel started using marketing ploys around that time and one of them involved changing covers to comics and people saw 4 different covers of XMen # 1 (Claremont/Lee) and bought it in the excess of 1 million copies.  Made Jim Lee a big star and millionaire...sure Claremont is not broke either.

because the masses of people who should be interested are not....they are a sleeping giant at best.  Hudlin makes money off his other ventures.  If he made money here his numbers would have to match or exceed Whedon's Astonishing XMen or more appropriately Claremont/Lee's XMen which reportedly sold 1 million copies back around 1991 or so.

Again, if anyone wants 100% continuity and reality at 100% they should walk down the street and not read a ficitional account of reality on a character who has been around since 1967 or so and has not aged.  Reality check.

agreed....believe that Hudlin does BP for the love of the character and the fact that Blacks do need a hero in some form of literature....it is not prevalent...there is too much negativity out there...way too much...do not believe he makes any money off of this title compared to the hours he puts into it....it is creative at best.

if whites are not racist then why do we still have the white house filled with only white male presidents (and they reside in a place built by slaves)

Think that Cannibal took someone other than Shuri as she did hug Storm around that time too and he was in a hurry so it had to be someone who could move quickly away from the scene...maybe using teleportation or flight as no one found him.  Maybe that will explain why the Watcher was present.

bluezulu....Claremont is my favorite X-Man writer from way back when he did "Days of Future Past" in UXM # 141 (was about 9 then) and both Priest and Hudlin have done a fine job on BP....if people would support their efforts then more people of color could create more characters and more independents would rise up as certainly priest has the background to run one and be an Executive Editor for his own line of books.  His version of BP was complicated and was classic as a result....made me love the book and character.

Think that if people like something they should support it (purchase 2 copies a month of BP myself) and if they don't then leave it.

HappyPantsPanther.....disagree that this board is anymore racist than any other one....the bigger question is why are there so few Black heroes that we see represented in science fiction and Black owned companies that produce books, literature, etc.  The numbers are not high and there is a serious problem due to historic wrongs.

BlueZulu....agree that many people listen to someone else and never read to come up with their own opinion and that is a lazy aspect of human existence.  If one doesn't like a book one will discontinue reading it and move on and not comment further.  The bigger statement is with the pocketbook.

Agreed.  Never liked Cyclops that much and his only reason for being there is because he was given the status of Field Leader by Professor X....in contrast, Storm earned it and even took it in a new direction during her XTreme XMen run and directly challenged Prof X and his new methodology.

And yes Cyclops did allow Psylocke and Emma Frost to come on to him and he could have rebuffed both.  In fact, he didn't wait more than 6 months before he was sexing or dating another female during the original UXM #137-138 climax to the Dark Phoenix story.  He started dating a Blonde female around issue # 147...her name was Lee.

Back on topic....Storm fought Dr. Doom way back in UXM #145-147 and he entombed her in some type of statue and she became enraged and almost caused an unstoppable & destructive weather blitz.  A re-match is overdue.

Agreed.  Think we should be able to act more sensibly as adults (even if some of us are single).  Everyone has an opinion and no one is neccesarily wrong ...

Might have to check out Daredevil...have not read him since the Miller days back in the 80s.  Thanks for being so informative.
