Black Panther / Black Panther 25,'s OVER!
« on: June 06, 2021, 07:52:21 am »
Wow......what a mess! It has been excruciating reading Black Panther these last 5 years with Coates at the helm. The finale had a lot of fireworks with many familiar faces of some of our favorite Black Marvel characters like other previous issues (Hudlin did it better) but ultimately any Black Panther fan can leave this series alone and not have missed out on anything. The sole redeeming factor of the last issue was Kaash Paige's story at the end. I can count on one hand the amount of issues Coates did that I liked from the last 5 years. The only elements Coates really added to the mythos that stood out was the vibranium suit being able to absorb energy and redirect it which the MCU movie borrowed from but making Shuri an Orisha or whatever the eff was dumb and poorly executed. Coates tried to add elements of African spirituality but not in a way for any reader it was new to to become interested in and do more research on and Wakanda being an African nation never conquered and having a lifestyle portrayed by a couple of Dora Milaje that wasn't part of our culture till colonization had his whole run leaving a bad taste in many mouths from the very beginning. He need to watch Buck Breaking. And don't get me started on the whole intergalactic empire nonsense which was 80s Flash Gordon movie bad. I don't know which was worse, the take on Luke in the Last Jedi or T'challa in his own book from the last 5 years. Everyone who wrote T'challa in stories outside of his own book from the last 5 years understood T'challa better than Coates from Avengers, Agents of Wakanda, BP vs Deadpool, Ultimates, War of the Realms, Wakanda Forever and even as recent as Immortal Hulk 87. Readers can skip The Crew and World of Wakanda as well, they were trash. Black Panther was very weak throughout Coates whole run seemingly always needing help. Looking forward to what Ridley has to offer. The Alex Rosss cover already looks great! As long as we can get the T'challa from Agents of Wakanda or Avengers and Ultimates, I'll make mine Marvel again. Good riddance Coates!

There's nothing in the gallery to choose from and this Pac Man wannabe is not the biz

The issue was...wait for it.

Appreciate you Ture

Ok, for the die-hards that have the issues dealing with the wedding of the century (I'm thinking issues 16-20) Can someone please go to the letters pages of these issues and tell me which issue printed the picture I proposed to my x wife in? When the trades came out I used to sell my single issues all the time which I really regret as I see how sought after the first appearance of Shuri has become. I would like to get that issue with the pic of my proposal as technically, it's my first and only appearance in a Black Panther comic. :)

Black Panther / Re: Recast TChalla - Honor Chadwick Boseman
« on: May 07, 2021, 05:00:34 am »

People are really triggered by fanboys wanting to see their fav comic book character they waited forever to be realized on film recast like so many roles like Superman, Batman, War Machine, Hulk, Spider-Man, and Spartacus before him? Smh.
For the Boseman fanatics, I say this.....brushing a dead man's legacy is what happens if you let go of T'challa. That's his legacy. Boseman fought cancer to bring that character to life, and we are simply going to ditch him? Smh. Kevin Feige's reasoning makes absolutely no sense to me. I'm sure Boseman would love the baton to be carried on to someone else to keep the legacy of the character he worked so hard to bring to life alive. Boseman didn't come off as the selfish type to me. All the incredible actors that could play him and only Boseman gets to!? Naw, that's not how this works.
Black Panther was a huge cultural moment in our time. Biggest grossing solo superhero movie of all time. It was because of the character T'challa most went to go see it. Not Wakanda or anything else. Loved Boseman as T'challa, moreso in Civil War, but there is PLENTY of room for someone to bring even more notoriety to this beloved character. People found out how great Boseman was after he passed away but when that movie came out, you asked people's fav character, they will say Killmonger, Shuri, Klaw, M'baku, Okoye. I don't remember a lot of people saying T'challa. (shrugs)

First off, an MCU without T'challa is an MCU I am less invested in. The only way this works to me is if it's going to take place during the blip. They lost their king like we all lost Chadwick in real life and they have to figure out how they are going to carry on. If they do that, dope. If it's a flashback tale with Wesley Snipes playing a younger T'chaka, dope. Anything else, wack! Lol.

Seriously though, they say the movie honors Chadwick so this is the only I can see them doing that without killing off T'challa's character.

Black Panther / this forum can be very off putting. Reasons why

My friends......why change the title of a very old thread with a new topic? New readers will get excited and then click on the thread and see a bunch of posts that have nothing to do with the title. What is wrong with creating a new thread with fresh conversation? I just want to know what is the purpose of what I see being done on this forum so often. It makes no sense.

Just a year older than me. Such a great talent. Killed every role he played. EVERY single one. Hated 5 Bloods, but he was great in it. I refuse to watch God's of Egypt but saw a clip of him in it that made me almost give it a chance. Floored me in the first role I ever seen him in in 42. Surprised me with how well he nailed James Brown. The same with Thurgood Marshall and he stole the show as T'challa in Captain America Civil War and would go on to help break records in Black Panther. The sequel they should have him killed off and Shuri become the Panther cause no one can replace him. Why Chadwick though? When the f*ck is Trump gonna catch Corona and drop dead already? FOK!

Hard Choices / Re: Hard Choices Kane or Rakim

that was cute in the recent Lord Sear interview when Rakim shared some bars he took out of Let the Rhythm Hit Em for Kane but those who were paying attention back in those days know what was goin' on... (certain things capitalized and emphasized for the slow folks below)

Kane on Set It Off-"The RAP SOLOIST/ you donít want none of this/ save the bass for the pipe and rearrange your tone/ or take a loss and be forced in the danger zone"

Rakim on Follow the Leader-"ďNo need to speed/ slow down and let the leader lead....word to DADDY, indeed! /The Rís a rollin' stone, so Iím rollin"/ directions is told, then the rhymes are stolen
stop buggin', a brother said, dig 'em, I never dug 'em
he couldnít follow the leader long enough so I drug 'em
into danger zone, he should arrange his own
face it, itís basic, erase it, change ya toneĒ

And on the song Hypnotic posted above,"ďI donít sniff no Ďcaine (Kane) to get RAW ( a play on Ra's name, as well as the title of a Kane song)

yall know they took subliminal shots at each other constantly back in the day, right?  Sorta like LL and Jay now, in fact LL got a song with G Rap and 50 Cent where he makes it known about his feelings for Jay.

What subliminal shots? I never heard this before, what are the songs?

We were living for this confrontation back in my early teens so I find it hard to believe that it never came up.

they were supposed to battle at a club for money long time ago.  Ra references this story many times in interviews.  I will look for a link later for you but does this line below ring a bell

"I don't have to sniff Kane to be Raw!"  Come on fam, u aint catch that!?  lol

When did Rakim use that line? Was that in the heat of the battle from 88-91/2?
