Fantastic Four #608-Spoiler Free
« on: July 19, 2012, 09:03:53 AM »
-We get to see Storm, Shuri and Sue v. Anubis.

-Meanwhile T'Challa and Reed visit the Wakndan Necropolis, where all the Panthers of the past are laid to rest.

-T'challa makes a choice in this issue that alters both his and Shuri's role in Wakanda.

Cool issue.

I'm hoping this plotlines here will be picked up by Hickman's sucessor on the FF or by Hickman himself when he takes over Avengers.

Hickman is taking over Avengers????  Might pick it up now....he's underrated.  Liked this issue too....Hickman could write BP ....he could relaunch the title.

From the Marvel NOW offical press release(on CBR):

Quote
Then in November, Marvel NOW! expands to all corners of the universe with launches including All-New X-Men #1 by Brian Michael Bendis (Avengers VS. X-Men, Ultimate Comics Spider-Man) and Stuart Immonen (Avengers VS. X-Men #1 Infinite, Fear Itself); Avengers #1 by Jonathan Hickman (Avengers VS X-Men, Fantastic Four) and Jerome Opena (Uncanny X-Force), on-sale in December; and New Avengers #1, by Hickman and Steve Epting (FF, Captain America), on-sale in January 2013.

So Hickman is gonna write both Avengers and New Avengers in November. Included in Hickman's 18 man (!) Avenger team will be Ms...Uh, Captain Marvel, Falcon, Spider Woman and Shang Chi.

Nobody knows what he's gonna do with New Avengers yet.

And he has a unnamed book besides Avengers and New Avengers. Fraction is hinted at writing the F4..but I'm sure that this is a Hickmen plot line, because he says he has more to do with him coming at the end of the year.

I'm sure Defenders also deals with this also. This makes me wonder about the fate of F4. Will there be a F4 book? Besides Johnny, they are all Avengers.

His 18 man JLU styled team is so far:
-the Movie Avengers
1)Black Widow
2)Captain America
3)Thor
4)Ironman
5)Hulk
6)Hawkeye
-----------------
7)The Falcon. ( movie-Cap)
8)Shang Chi
9)Captain Marvel
10)Spider-Woman
11)Nick Fury Jr  (movie)
12)
13)
14)
15)

And Joe Q is raving about Hickman's Avengers. I'm hoping T'challa lands there...I could see him as the Ultimate Nick Fury of 616 sort of role with the Avengers. He's clearly the most sane person in AvX, and when X fans start saying he should lead..then that says it all.

Quesada: I can tell you about two titles that I’m really excited about and a third that I can’t discuss, so let’s not go there. Now this is not picking favorites or anything, but being in the room and hearing the books that are going to offer a tremendous amount of change – not just change in their books, but change that will affect everything in the Marvel Universe. I think Jonathan Hickman’s Avengers is going to be groundbreaking just because of the way Jonathan thinks in a very, very universe-expanding way. And Brian Bendis’ All-New X-Men is going to rock the X-Men world. It’s going to be such a significant title for us; I can’t wait to read those books. We do have other stuff going on like the third mystery title that has me jazzed, but right now, from the initial launch, those are the first two that I’m reading as soon as they’re back from the printer.

Hickman says Panther has something coming up at the end of the year..his Avengers is at the end of the year.

Quote
Hopefully everything we're planning for this year can result in us achieving that.”

Quote
Hickman: Of course, all of that will factor in. I'm big on reading everyone else's books and trying to make all of it fit together perfectly because I like puzzles. I understand people's concerns, and they'll all be addressed. I would like to point out one thing here because it's a good place to do it: our solicits are incorrect, and all the Wakanda stuff will be happening a month after what they've been solicited for, so actually beginning in FF#607. Anyway, the Black Panther story in the main "Fantastic Four" book will be a two-parter setting up big end-of-year plans, and there will also be a single issue of the Future Foundation book, 'Safari.'

He also says there is a reason they are telling the Story.

As you know I'm extremely happy with what occurred in this issue!  ;D I have been bugging Brevoort and Marvel for a long time...so this issue was sweet.

Also Monica was hinted to show up in 5 months...which would be December, the start of Hickman's Avengers.

Only about 2-3 people are saying anything negative in that thread and it's the same ones you'd expect.

Well. I'm happy. I don't see what there is to fuss about. In two issues he addressed a lot of problems. I would wait and see first. Because at some point it becomes unreasonable and Marvel will go tone deaf on future issues and problems that really, really merit criticism.  I mean, a lot of stuff I have asked for and bugged them about is going down. Hickman blew my mind with FANTASTIC FOUR #608.

These issues remind me of his PAX ROMANA. This is why I brought up Dune...God-Kings; they are a part of his wheel house. I said Dune, Leto II,  I had no idea he would do this. Shuri is preserved, and given a place in the MU as Queen of Wakanda. This will give her something important. T'challa becomes more, the King of Kings, The Panther Gods chosen son, a Demi-God...when Shuri dies, T'challa will still be; immortal, ruling the Kings of Wakanda. He's still King!

How long will it last, if it's popular, it will. Hickman has 63 something issues plotted for AVENGERS.  It starts at #1! Brevoort and Marvel support this action. His new powers are being treated as a big reveal! This is his reconfiguration, that Joe Q said several characters will get in one form or another.

Anyone complaining about the mystical parts might need to re-read their books. It's been that way from the start, FANTASTIC FOUR #52-53...

And in AvX #7 they continued with Black Panther and Wakanda being a fusion of Magic and Science.

Quote
"[...]The Black Panther Prowls the boundary between Super-science and Magic"

What happens in the future is unknown, but from my view point and my personal arguments and lobbing are being addressed. Being "Queen" or King of Wakanda doesn't really add anything when he is now beyond a simple monarch. Bast said as much...play boy king or take his destiny.

The result is a T'challa that may be able to finally fight Doom, Thor, Namor, Black Bolt, or Sultan Magus with out a plot device! All of his peers I just mention are team busting, power houses. They all have advanced technology on par or near Wakandas...for example Black Bolt and the Kree, besides the inhumans science. Sultan Magus has alien technology. Atlantis has ancient magic, gods, highly advanced technology, Then there is Doom...Wakanda now has possible powerhouse in T'challa, along with their advanced technology, magic and Warrior Queen. In close combat, he will possibly be the best.

This should be all good, and this removes the whole Storm and Panther team-up issue/excuse...that is if they don't divorce or something. But now T'challa is the Weapon. He's still a scientific-technological genius--but with the strength, experience and knowledge of ever Black Panther ever. Skill-wise he's should be on another level now. Hickman seems to love hyper-capable heroes.

All in two freaking issues! Two issues. I say allow them to continue, before bashing them. T'challa has been written well in this event and I really didn't think it possible.

Yeah, the Panther is a great character and I am going to do a bit more with him. He’s a secret city, science king, so — kind of right in my wheel house.

I have seen people mention the Phantom ( just no) or Buffy (double no) but Dune is one of Hickman's favorite series. Leto II the God Empower has access to every ancestor! T'challa has this now. Leto II accepts the God Head for the Salvation of his people (the Freemen)...T'challa does the same' basically the same. Spice Malenage is Heart Shape Herb/Soul Shape Herb, both will kill a normal person. Dora's and Fish-speakers...all with a twist. I just expect T'challa to be similarly fast and strong like Leto II.

Also he could struggle with losing humanity, a battle that would be a nice touch and Storm could play into that.

Didn't realize the Dune parallels. Well I hope it doesn't go the God Emperor of Dune route. I didn't like that book. As for issue #608 I thought it was well illustrated and set up some interesting story lines for both T'Challa and Shuri. However I don't think enough focus was given to Shuri's story.

Yeah, not that far. But in terms of power-set, it would but him on par with most anyone. Especially his peers...Doom, Black Bolt, Sultan Magus, Namor, etc. I mean, one on one. It seems they are pushing the "good" Doom or the "Namor" without a attitude.

I just want him leading the Avengers.

I wouldn't read too much into Mr Majestik's comments, at the beginning of Liss's run he hated it, but at the end he was recommending it to others.

Also finally got to read this issue and I was blown away, I can't wait to see what happens next.

And what I think happens next is he's in the Avengers and with 18 members there's enough to have 2 leaders, BP & Cap.
