Dark Knight Rises was an amazing film. I had to eat my words about Anne Hathaway. She is the best live-action Catwoman period. Tom Hardy did a good job as Bane, his performance marred only the mask that made him sometimes hard to understand as well as his odd old man voice. But I read today that making his voice sound older was intentional so it's all good.

Man I'm only a casual Batman fan but as soon as I saw some unknown chick was getting so much airtime I knew she was Talia. Once I figured that out I totally guessed the ending. About halfway through I was fidgeting in my seat, leaning forward and leaning back and wondering when it was going to be over.

I give it a solid 8.5 though. I was reluctant to embrace Anne Hathaway as Catwoman but the moment she kicked that crutch out from under Bruce Wayne I was fully on board. She was GREAT and easily my favorite part of the movie.

Bruce Wayne was already decrepit, beaten and broke. To add insult to injury Bane took over Wayne Enterprises Applied Sciences Division and stole all of Batman's tech. But when he camouflaged the Tumblers and made them his own, it somehow felt sacrilegious. I was like, "this movie can't be this depressing".

What I hated most though were the political undertones. Rush Limbaugh said it leaned towards progressives, but it was clearly conservative propaganda. For me the basic overall message was the idealistic 99% are stupid, disorganized and corrupt and it's best for the cops and establishment rich guys to lead the way out of chaos.

Yeah, Rush was running his mouth as usual, and made those statements before the film came out. But even then he backtracked and said that Romney would be Batman. But I do agree with you that the film could be seen as having more of a conservative agenda than a progressive one.

As for Talia, I was hoping, but I took Cotillard at her word when she said she wasn't going to be playing Talia, and for the most part Nolan had been pretty straightforward about what was going to be in his films, up until TDKR, and I'm not complaining, because it was great to see her and Robin both in the film. Before it had seemed like Nolan was dead set- my word-against using Robin. In hindsight, I do wish that Miranda Tate had been better integrated throughout the film to maintain the illusion that she wasn't Talia until her unmasking as it were.

Epic tone & good momentum until the climax scene.  Loved the inclusion of Robin & the connectivity between the three films.  Hard to top Ledger's top notch job from the last film but this one served up some other twists.

Saw it today, ok, better than 2, not as good as 1.

The story had so many flaws!  It is one of those movies that is more enjoyable if you don't think too hard about it.

I say it is good; not great.  And better than Amazing Spider-man, but not even in the same league as any of the Avengers movies.

Haven't see it yet.

By the way I really liked the Avengers but it wasn't that great.

Bat Man feels more epic than The Avengers ....in tone, cinematography & direction.  Especially liked the second one which Heath Ledger blew up with his phenomenal acting or discourse on the depths of evil or study in evil (as it were)...one of the few Oscar worthy performances in a comic movie.  This one just had so much of a larger than life feel throughout & a solid end to the trilogy.

Possible Spoiler:

Went to see it this weekend with my son. It was good; I liked it better than the second movie. Like the second movie I thought it was too long. And as much as I appreciated their efforts, I cannot take a Batman movie as seriously as they wanted me to. It's Batman. Any message you're trying to convey to me through the Caped Crusader is lost. I'd give it an 8 out of 10. I enjoyed the Avengers better because it was honest to what it is. Batman tried to get too deep and in my opinion it failed. Because when it comes down to it, who would actually give their life for Gotham City?

Isn't the answer to your last question obvious? Why Batman of course.

That's the point. I don't buy that even he cares about Gotham that much. But then it might be me. I don't get the sense of Gotham being this great metropolis.

It's not about what Gotham is but what it could be...

Of course, Bruce Wayne wants to restore Gotham to it's former glory....the glory that his father created.  He has a lot of legacy love for Gotham.

(I saw it last week at the US Space & Rocket Center's Imax cinema.  The film was a bit lengthy, but overall, it was great.)

I finally saw it yesterday. ;D

It would have been impossible to top the last movie and it didn't but it did do a nice job of tying to together all the threads from the entire series.

I guess my biggest complaint is about Tom Hardy's mask. He really couldn't perform in it, i felt. I felt like a was hearing an obvious overdub every time he spoke.

Michael Caine continues to be the best thing in these movies.

Hathaway did a decent job with what she was given(Phiffer's crazed Catwoman was a meatier role in comparision).

Don't have much to say about Bale as Batman. Dude suffers, he growls then he suffers some more.

At least they gave the poor bastard a happy ending(but oddly enough, I was happier for Caine's Alfred than I was for Batman himself).

We sort of get a certain character in this movie but not really.

I hope the inevitable reboot is more comic booky.
