The Department of History at the University of Rochester invites applications for a tenure track position at the assistant professor level in the history of the African diaspora, with a preference for candidates with expertise in the history of gender, Latin America and/or the Caribbean.

The department has a long tradition of excellence of scholarship in the fields of African history, the Atlantic world, African-American studies, and the economics of slavery.  We are building on that tradition as we develop our programs in the direction of global history. The department also has a close relationship with the university’s Frederick Douglass Institute for African and African-American Studies, a center that sponsors graduate and undergraduate scholarship, and pre- and post-doctoral fellowships.  Applicants can explore the Department of History’s website at  and the FDI website at .
