Wow guys, I thought someone would've posted a thread about this film by now.

I saw it opening weekend, did anyone else?

Just did. Very good installment! Clever reboot of the franchise.

S P O I L E R:

A little odd to go on about Bond being long in the tooth and the last of the 00's when you finish with a reboot?

I liked it as well, though I don't think it's a reboot. Casino Royale was the reboot film. What I think Skyfall did is just move beyond the Quantum trilogy that was supposed to comprise Craig's first three Bond films. After Quantum of Solace wasn't embraced by the audience they just dropped that storyline. I didn't like Quantum, but I read where someone else suggested that they should've just made Silva the head of Quantum. Looking back, I liked that idea. It wraps it up without it affecting the story Skyfall wanted to tell.

I do agree with you about how the film talked about Bond's age, especially since he was supposed to be a young agent in Casino Royale. Granted, Craig is getting up there, but his take on Bond is still very new to audiences, with Skyfall being his third movie. If that storyline had come up after his fifth or sixth movie it would've made more sense to me. Perhaps it was put in there as a way to ease Craig out if Skyfall didn't do well?

I see what you mean but I think of it as a reboot because they...

re-established the traditional roles and format of the series by the end.

I still don't think it was a reboot, but I do get where you are coming from. It was almost like they were just returning to the standard conventions or cliches of the Bond films. In a way it was almost felt like they were preparing to hand it off. But in any event it's makes Craig's Bond more traditional.

They wanted to reboot the franchise but also give a nod to all the traditional elements of a Bond film.

I don't know exactly how badly Quantum Of Solace did but I guess it reception made the producers rethink things somewhat.

But even after that, the Craig Bond movies pointedly stay away from the gadjet and car fetish stuff of the earlier films. O.K. they find a loophole but even there they kind of do away with the loophole.

Personally I thought the movie was well made and entertaining. Javier Bardim is the best thing in a film were everybody is very, very good.

My one quibble is that I don't see them producing a Craig Bond movie that is as fun as Goldfinger or Spy Who Loved me was.

We are getting a much grimmer Bond.

Agreed!  In fairness, Goldfinger may never be topped! IMHO.  Was there ever a greater introduction than Jill Masterson (Shirley Eaton) helping Goldfinger cheat at cards!?!

I greatly enjoyed SKYFALL aka "James Bond Rises"

Maybe it's just me but I see a lot of resemblance between the three Nolan Batman films and the three Craig James Bond movies.

I'm sorry, I wasn't impressed. It was okay but I saw too many elements from other movies incorporated into it. The first scene I could have taken Craig out and replaced him with Matt Damon. The story line was predictable to me as well. Nothing surprised me. The lack of gadgets was disappointing, too.

I liked it.  I thought the lack of gadgets was great...especially in this day and age of technological marvels.  Q's statement about being able to do more damage with his laptop in 15 minutes than Bond could do in a week was pretty appropriate, too.  I loved seeing the car...the Aston Martin was a welcome sight!  All in all, it was a solid flick and even Ralph Fiennes didn't get on my nerves.  LOL

i thought it was cool. the bond intro (song/montage) was nice. best i've seen so far. the plot was bland & the villian under represented. the revenge motive seemed like a second-thought & slightly unbelievable... jus' kill that bitch already.

bottomline- didn't seem like a bond film. the action was awesome but the story slowed & never seemed to pick back up. the women in the film were all bond- worthy.
