  Standout sounds for me include:

Valerie June "Pushin' Against A Stone"
   Gregory Porter "Liquid Spirit"
   Joshua Redman "Walking Shadows"
   Christian McBride "Out Here"

The Sly Stone box is in a class all its own for reissues.

There's a few others. I haven't put my year end lists together yet.

Love this list because I haven't heard any of this music.

   Well.....

You have heard more than a bit of the Sly box. It's worth adding to the library on the strength of the rare cuts alone.

Valerie June is one of the breakthrough artists of the year.

Yes….well I have all the individual album reissues that had outtakes on them….does the box have anything else?

Been meaning to get to Valerie June for a while.  The look is awesome but haven't really heard her yet.

Re: "Higher", the Sly box set.

There is almost a CD worth of unreleased and/or live tracks.  It was worth the price of admission in my book. But, you already own most of this already. I'm not sure if all the rare stuff can be downloaded  as individual tracks. The remastering is the same as the complete album set that came out about a year ago.

  Re: Valerie June

She is a unique talent. She calls her sound "Organic Moonshine Roots Music": Country meets Soul meets Gospel meets Blues. I caught her live and was knocked out!
