This book was meant for 12 issues, considering how everything is heading toward Secret Wars. All the save storm hashtag was for naught, and I'm sure that even Pak knew this going in despite his and Axel's statements in previous interviews. It's been stated that every writer knew of this event going on. Good sales or not, this book along with a lot of others weren't meant to survive/last prior to Secret Wars unless they were a main franchise book, and even they are getting new numbering.

More than likely, if Storm gets another chance post-SW, it'll probably be a whole new Storm. I feel that a lot of characters are going to get 'reset' if the whole Marvel landscape doesn't get rebooted.

This series was simply throwing a bone to a rabid fan base. With all the push to focus on the Inhumans and replacing the X characters with them, I forsee a huuuuuuuge backseat given to the X-Men. And by backseat I mean like one of those old cars our grandparents had with no seatbelt a and could hold six kids.

So since delving into her "character" via solo book, proved to be a complete failure (the last issue dropped by more than 1200 and is in the 15,000 range)...Storm's back to the role that she is best suited to play these days.

"One-Note Lightning Lass." Gotta love those featz!

This is not true! The reason for the declining sales of her book, as I have stated time and again, is the nostalgic writing and slow burn start Pak started out with as well as the artwork. The hairdo is ugly and Storm doesn't look "sexy" in her title. When trying to market a female-led solo title to a market or predominately males, the female should be drawn very beautifully. Storm has always been "classy, but sexy" in her depictions in comics (unless she's sporting that UGLY mohawk). While Ibanez made her look like a "real woman", she was not "classy, but sexy" as she was during Yardin's run on "Black Panther" or when she was under CC's pen previous to BP.

Pak needed to start the title out with a bang. The story should have been BIG and ELECTRIFYING introducing an exciting new villain for Storm to fight and new friends for Storm to interact with. The slow burn stories he told could have waited till year two with issue 3 never being told.

The current story arc in the book is VERY interesting with cliffhangers and everything! There is a big bad behind Harmon Davis lurking in the shadows that we don't even know yet. The stories Pak's telling right now are new and original. He's a good storyteller.

That said, she did not zap Sinister with a lightning bolt in that scan. She manipulated the electrons in his brain to give him a seizure attack. That is SCARY!

Pak did everything he could to make the character interesting and feel more "human" outside of a team setting. But it's pretty much failed, because she's at her best when she's bossing people around from her lofty arrogant perch and/or flying in to blast people with some Over-the-Top, "Goku Level", Weather Feat. You also can't blame nostalgia, for the book's sales.  Because I recall Storm fans saying once the nostalgia ended, and Pak started writing Storm "doing her own thing", that the book's sales would improve. But yet that's not the case.

At all.

She still used electricity, which bpth lightning and electrons are.

Issues 2-5 were nostalgic  (4-5 would have been fine because of the DoW tie-in if it had not been preceeded by 2 and 3). If Pak had gone issues 1, 4, 5, 6, etc in that order, skipping two and 3, the sales would have done much better. Also, the mohawk needs to go and she needs an artist that will draw her more beautifully.

We Storm fans were hoping the sales would go back up because if readers tried the book now, they will most likely stick with it. So far, they have not given the book another try, but those of us who wish for the book's success can still cross our fingers and do our best to promote the book.

Pretty nifty! ;)

X-POSITION: Greg Pak Forecasts "Storm's" Future

People have been keeping it real as heck about Storm in that first link. I've posted a bunch of hard-hitting ones a few pages back. As for the latter link, there were two truthbombs so far...

Quote
"I feel like the problem with the Storm character is its inability to strike a balance between the powerful woman and the flawed human being. There are so many posts that are wondering why she isn't always being the moral center of every situation or why she isn't zapping every powerful foe with her undefeatable, omega zapping powers that can literally do anything. There's an expectation for her to be this always-exceptional, infallible, and quite frankly boring character who will be "out of character" when she's anything less than supreme."

Quote
"I've kind of noticed this too. It seems like there are a bunch of Storm fans who think she should be able to do anything with her mutant powers, be immune to telepathy because of her indomitable will or whatever, be an infallible leader who is always right and even master her magic potential since she's a descendant of a Sorceress Supreme. That makes her come off as pretty boring and I don't particularly care for her since she's hard to relate to because she's way overpowered, kind of like Superman, who I have the same problem with. Maybe that's partially because she was a CC favorite and he used to give her a lot of focus and some of the weirdest traits (being of every race and no race at the same time, anyone?) and at times she comes of as a bit Mary Sueish maybe. Chris Claremont wrote the best version of Storm during his initial run...hands down!  She was obviously Black and mad powerful but she had limits (read the Dark Phoenix story where several times he gave her limitations to The White Queen's initial attack and even limited power on the moon right before Jean committed suicide).  The link between The Black Panther and Storm can also be attributed to Claremont (the writer who to this day has written the best XMen stories).

Fortunately, Storm surpassed those limitations that you brought up, though! :)

That said, though I am VERY grateful to CC for everything he did for Storm in putting on her the map and all, I don't think he's the right writer for a Storm ongoing series. He seems to be unable to come up with credible adversaries for Storm that would give her a good fight in battle and tends to write her unevenly at times when she's pitted against weaker foes (for example, I can't believe he had Storm lose to Callisto in "The Arena" arc in such a way that had no credibility whatsoever...also, he tends to write Storm down when she fights Magneto. All of a sudden, she loses her ability to not be harmed by lightning when fighting this character.) . Furthermore, I'm tired of reading about Callisto (a character he obviously has GREAT love for) and the Morlocks. I think he is mired in his ways and  would be unable to break new ground with Storm. There is so much rich story potential to be told with Ororo that would simply not get explored under him in favor of going over and over areas of her own personal stories that have been done to death.

Not only that, but glancing at his Nightcrawler book and the new characters he created during Revolution, those new villains were sorry and boring. They were not compelling at all. Worse, Nightcrawler's book was hardly a solo title. The other X-Men played way too big of a role in the book and that scorpion kid was way over featured in the stories. If CC were to write a Storm solo title, instead of Scorpion boy, it would be Callisto. Though CC loves Callisto, nobody else save maybe a few readers care about her and CC would kill the book.

What Storm's book needs is a writer who is very familiar with all aspects of Ororo's powers (Pak has demonstrated this in an exemplary fashion that surpasses even CC. Again, CC will write her powers inconsistently at times to try and prop up a threat while Pak has never done that to date), her mental defenses against telepathy and her backstory/history. She needs somebody who can move her character forward and explore all of the interesting aspects of her history/back story that have yet to be delved into. She also needs interesting and compelling friends and foes created for her series separate from the X-titles and other series. The foes need to have exciting powers and they should be able to give Storm a run for her money in a fight. I don't EVER want to read another Morlock story. If Callisto shows up sometimes as friend, it needs to only happen one story arc every so many years.

I guess Black Widow and She Hulk are more popular than Storm?
Storm's numbers just keep dropping....no surprise. Doesn't look like the Save Storm campaign had much of a punch.
