I can have misgivings about stuff not being accurate to the source material (tbf, none of them are 100%)

but Coogler seems to have love for the character. Which is just so GD refreshing after dealing with 2 years of Coates "well I don't like this and dont' relate and never read his book" bullsh*t for years.

Coogler has said all the right things. The costumes are on point. The writers have said all the right things. Trailers were on point. MCU momentum is full steam ahead.

Movie just has to be good now

If it's nothing but great reviews once that embargo is released, we're talking 120-130 million opening weekend, easy.

It's already seen as a great, game changing movie.  And it aint even come out yet.  Just needs a little ity bity tiny bit of confirmation and it's a wrap.  Greatest opening weekend on Valentine's weekend.  Greatest opening weekend in February.  Greatest opening weekend in 2017 not named Star Wars ( ::)), greatest opening weeken-

Since BP is 2018, does it compete against Star Wars?

Solo comes out in May.

Infinity War is the one that will take the BO crown in 2018 though..

2018 is actually packed with potential box office hits

BP, IW, Solo, DP2, Incredibles 2, Jurassic World, Antman2, Mission Impossible, Dark Phoenix, Fantastic Beasts, Aquaman, Mary Poppins

and that isn't even looking at stuff like Pacific Rim, Tomb Raider, Rampage, New Mutants, Teen Titans Go, Predator, Equilzer 2, Venom Wreck it Ralphp 2, Creed 2, Bumble Bee, Animated Spider-Man

But IW wins the year easy

Oh crap you're right!

I was gon say top movie of 2018 then!

... until MoS reminded me that Infinity War is like 3 months later    :(

Well sh*t.  We'll just sweep all the greatest box office openings in February/1st quarter awards then  >:(

Hmmm...

Objectively...

1. IW
2. Jurassic World 2
3. BP / DP2 / Solo / Incredibles 2
4. Everything else

Not even sold on Jurassic World (how much of that last one was just nostalgia?).  It could be in the same logjam as all the others, making it a 5 way battle for number 2.

IW wins by far and I don't think its even close.

I think R rating will stop Deadpool... they can't get into China so that will hold it back a bit. i don't think you can cross 800 mil without China.

I think Jurassic World 1 was pure nostalgia, I don't think JW2 works as well. Kind of like Avengers 1 and AoU a bit.

Rogue 1 did a billion so...

incredibles is a wild card for sure... So imma guess

1. IW 1.5 bill range

2. JW billion range

3. Solo billion range

4. incredibles 800-900 range

5. BP 800+ mill range (same as WW)

thats my guess anyway

Okay not gonna lie, I didn't think Jurassic world was that good at all. It felt like just nostalgia an poor dialogue and the plot was all over the place. But whatever

Oh and please spoil whether Hal Jordan was or wasn't in this movie.

If he was, DC is dead  to me.  Forever.

Thanks

More from Robreedwrites from CBR

Quote from: robreedwrites;3250379
Coogler did talk a bit about working with Marvel, (paraphrasing): It's like, they have a lot of smart people that it takes you back. But then you have to remember, "I'm smart too." And sometimes that means speaking up, and sometimes that means listening, but it was a really fun collaboration. That's part of why I like film. And with Marvel, you can see the freedom they give directors with Taika and Thor, and James Gunn.

The host asked Coogler about how Marvel set so much stuff up, like Serkis as Klaw and putting the Winter Soldier on a popsicle. Coogler (paraphrasing): Like they (Marvel) come up to you with all this stuff you can use, in terms of what they set up for you and what is coming. Like who doesn't want to work with Andy Serkis? And then you got Chad who had all these great ideas for the character and John Kani (this then lead to the story in my earlier post).

Paraphrasing him meeting Nate more: I got a call from a producer and like halfway through the call, I was like, "I think I'm talking with a black dude," and then he and I met up and I saw him sitting in the restaurant where we were meeting and I was like, "He is black!" And it took me back for a second, cause I didn't think Marvel had a brotha on the team. And he and I talked about everything, and just what having Wakanda would mean to everyone. And that conversation really helped me jump in.

Both Ava and Ryan talked incredibly positively about their experience working with Disney and Marvel, and both seemed genuine. Ava actually talked about how for A Wrinkle in Time she adjusted the way she framed her shots because she wanted the film to visually fit in with the other Disney films in terms of style. She wanted it to fit the Disney canon but still have some of her edginess and style.

Pacific Rim 2 looks like it will be dope as hell!

IMO.

Peace,
