When it was announced that the Black Panther was going to have a new ongoing written by Ta-Nehisi Coates and illustrated by Brian Stelfreeze many enthusiasts thought we were going to get something really impactful... and we did. Commenting on just the artwork we witnessed an artist who was fully committed to not only adding something new to the Black Panther but to do such culturally.















He re-imagined the the very gods and goddesses of Wakanda as if divinely inspired by the deities themselves.





He gave the Black Panther and family some swag.





Stelfreeze even gave the Black Panther a new power.

Stelfreeze clearly distinguished the Black Panther intro/recap page. It was consistent through several BP titles most appropriately Rise of the Black Panther by Evan Narcisse.







Stelfreeze brought a vibrancy that truly enhanced the narrative.













Stelfreeze did an incredible job of presenting a unique Afrakan aesthetic to Black Panther one so strong it carried over and translated well in the feature solo. It would be interesting to see Stelfreeze's work under a different BP writer. I sometimes wondered if Stelfreeze was turned off by Coates writing of Black Panther and Wakanda?

Afua Richardson did covers for five issues of Marvel's World of Wakanda and art for a short story backup in the first issue. She was one of a small group of African American women artists who were employed by the "big two" comic publishers at the time she entered the industry. World of Wakanda debuted November 9, 2016 (with a cover date of January 2017). The series was canceled after six issues due to poor sales.

William Jackson Harper to Narrate 'Black Panther: Sins of the King' (Exclusive)

The 'Good Place' alum is lending his voice to Serial Box's new Marvel project.
William Jackson Harper is headed to Wakanda. The Emmy-nominated actor will narrate the audiobook series Marvel’s Black Panther: Sins of the King, which is due out in January from Serial Box.

Sins of the King sees T'Challa's rule threatened by his father's unintended resurrection. The story, described as an adventure thriller, follows Black Panther as he faces the mistakes of the past, as well as dark forces seeking revenge on Wakanda. Characters who appear in the miniseries include favorites from the 2018 Black Panther film such as Okoye and Shuri, as well as Marvel mainstays Misty Knight and War Machine. There are also new characters, including a villain who can resurrect the dead.

"I've long been a fan of sci-fi, but there's always been a dearth of Black characters in those worlds, especially when brought to the screen," Harper said in a statement. "I remember seeing Black Panther in the theater and just being giddy about how many kids like me will have this be one of their first and formative sci-fi experiences, and how open they will be to seeing all kinds of people inhabiting these worlds as they grow older, which is why I am thrilled to be a part of this project."

Sins of the King's writing team is led by Ira Madison III and also includes Tananarive Due, Steven Barnes, Geoffrey Thorne and Mohale Mashigo.

"Sci-fi and fantasy have long explored the relationship between sons and fathers, but I thought an all-Black writing team would be uniquely equipped to tell a powerful story about Black sons and fathers, one that normally goes untold in the world of superhero stories,” said Madison in a statement. “It's such an honor to bring T'Challa to life in a new story for fans of Black Panther, including myself, who never imagined while reading Avengers and Fantastic Four comics as a kid I'd get to come up with stories for the Black Panther himself."

Harper is best known for his role as ethics professor Chidi Anagonye on NBC's The Good Place, for which he is nominated for an supporting comedy actor Emmy this year.  He also appeared in 2019's Midsommar, and has Barry Jenkins’ The Underground Railroad series due out on Amazon next year.

Marvel's Black Panther: Sins of the King is Serial Box’s fourth Marvel project, following series focusing on Black Widow, Jessica Jones and Thor.

Me neither.  He was younger than I am.  It is simply not right.

But it is reality, and we can only honor him and move on.

I think the thing that gets me the most, is the fact the he truly TRULY represented and radiated what a true hero looks like. Always humble, always kind, never arrogant or using his fame for selfish gains, but as an inspiration to the world. Despite surgies and such during the last 4 year's you wouldn't of even known it.. he was a true super hero and he IS the King

I just woke up to see this and I'm like....no words really. This has been a terrible year. Like DigiCom Boseman was younger than me, so it's just such a shame. His career was too short but I am glad he got to play icons like Jackie Robinson, James Brown, and Thurgood Marshall, and he was also in some of the biggest movies of all time, and he made Black Panther a worldwide, A-List character, inspiring millions. Mr. Boseman's time here was short, but he made the most of it.

While I understand why they are saying that, I don't think Chadwick would want Cooglers idea and the character T'Challa to not be fully exposed to the next generation, especially with how well people resonated with T'Challa and his world. Of course there will never be anyone who can replace Tchadwick, but T'Challa and Wakanda should be enjoyed for generations to come just like Batman, Superman, Spiderman etc. But again this is Waaaaaay to early to be talking about this
