Which film and soundtrack is your favorite?
Film: Shaft pretty easily for me.
Soundtrack: I think Superfly is the better album and Shaft is the better soundtrack if you follow me. Although the Superfly soundtrack almost functions like a Greek chorus in the film, when I listen to the Shaft soundtrack, it vividly evokes scenes from the movie.

Superfly for film, but I love Curtis' answer...Superfly as a total piece of music that functions independently from the film, but Shaft delivering three iconic pieces of film score - Walk to Regio's, Cafe Regio's, and the main theme.

Superfly has the more impactful soundtrack and the more complex one as well.
Mayfield was dead-set against promoting drug dealers in any fashion despite the films theme. Nearly every song serves as an anti-drug commercial and yet each piece is so great it compliments the movie at every turn.
Hayes with the SHAFT soundtrack produced a masterpiece but the bar was lower.

This is a Hard Choice 'cause both soundtracks & movies were street masterpieces. However,
Curtis Mayfield
's
"Freddie's Dead"
could've
been made today considering what went down in Baltimore, Maryland.
I'm'ma give it to Superfly for soundtrack.
I'll give it to 'Shaft' for film 'cause that's what the criminal justice system gives you.

Movie: Shaft (but mainly for the remake and the David Walker comic)
Soundtrack: Superfly (wasn't really impressed with the movie but the soundtrack is a classic. Never listened to the Shaft soundtrack outside of the iconic theme song)

Might I suggest looking this one up for some of the more
fun
visual elements such as the period look & feel of the film. It should be fun to note what is now called 'product placement' all of the most popular objects the characters interact with. There are so many layers to observe in 'Superfly' too many to list...
