Rush Hour
« on: April 08, 2016, 07:44:56 pm »
There is a new TV series called Rush Hour; yes, that Rush Hour.  But instead of Chris Tucker and Jackie Chan, it stars Justin Hires and Jon Foo.

It's not very good; a mere shadow of the movies.  But the biggest flaw I'm seeing is this:

Foo is not trying to be Jackie Chan even when delivering the same lines. He isn't trying to copy not in his mannerism or his fighting style, which is a good thing, but no one else can be Jackie Chan.

Hires however is trying to be Chris Tucker, and he can't be him either.  I wish he would just put his own stamp on the character.

But even that might not help this series.

You mean Chris Tucker.

I gave the first ep a chance. Not interested in seeing ep #2 and beyond. Kip's assessment is correct, in that Hires is trying too hard to be like Tucker while Foo isn't trying hard enough to be like Chan.

I think I gave it two or three episodes then gave up.

I didn't think that Foo not trying hard enough to be Chan was a negative, but now that you say it...yeah...Foo stayed so far away from Chan, he was boring.

It felt like Foo was sleepwalking through the role, but then I considered it might be his acting style as I'm not that familiar with him. Sure enough, I found a clip of a fight scene he did in a movie called "Extraction", his acting for the setup to the fight scene was identical to how he plays Lee. So I'll chalk it up to personal preference but I'm still not interested in seeing more of this show. What's funny though is I think the premise has legs its just the execution is meh to me.

Agreed!  I only made it through about 15 minutes of Ep. #2 and I didn't see #1.

Peace,

Ah well.  We'll see what happens with Training Day as well as Lethal Weapon on Fox.
