I dunno, alot of his stuff I heard just didn't age well, it was dope back then, but now it's not as good.  Big Daddy Kane on the other hand was well ahead of his time, No Half steppin still rocks today.

I had the OPPOSITE reaction,dawg...I felt that the R was so far ahead of his time and so far above the calibur of most LISTENERS as well as lyricists, that THE AUDIENCE STILL HASN'T CAUGHT UP TO HIM.Just some examples: LYRICS OF FURY.FOLLOW THE LEADER.KNOW THE LEDGE.THE GHETTO (popularizing the phrase:"It's not where ya from,it's where ya at!")  BUS EM,PUNISH EM on CANIBUS' 2000 B.C.,his joint GUESS WHO'S BACK,MUSICAL MASSACRE,CASUALTIES OF WAR,MAHOGANY,LET THE RHYTHYM HIT EM (the remix),and that's just off-top.His innovation in rhyme scheme, his pioneering use of alliteration, his delivery, his flow, his vocab, his elevated mental...just too much for most folks. He frequently got down on sparse East Coast tracks, and that lack of gorgeous sonic ganxta ganja for ya ear turned off alot of people, and rarely would he produce a club banger that was specifically designed to bang at clubs, because his approach to his art,his craft was different. Not denigratin your opinion D-ruck,I'm juss sayin...
