A couple questions from a newcomer
« on: September 15, 2017, 10:05:21 pm »
I'm a relative newcomer, not just to Black Panther but to reading comic books in general. Most of my questions were answered in MindofShadow's fan blog post on Trade Reading Order. It's really nice to have it all laid out, especially with some insight on how good/relevant each arch is. I just had a few other basic questions I was hoping I could get sorted out.

1. Is the volume 2 stuff from 1988 by Peter B. Gillis collected anywhere?

2. I think I've got a pretty good handle on his solo runs, but when is he part of teams? Is there a way to look that up? What are the best/most important team runs? Are Ultron Unlimited and Avengers: Red Zone towards the top?

3. Am I correct in understanding that the Black Panther by Reginald Hudlin: The Complete Collection Volume 1 coming out in November doesn't include issue #7?

Thanks for any help you can send my way!

Welcome

The Peter Gillis books should be available on Amazon or mycomicshop. Doesn't look like its in collected form yet.

#7 is not included because it was a House of M crossover issue.

IIRC, the only teams BP has been a part of are the Avengers (off and on since the 1970's), the FF (under McDuffie) and the recently canceled Ultimates.  Theoretically, you could count the Illuminati too.  All should be listed on Shadow's page.

In terms of the best team runs (none of them are THAT important) I'd probably only really recommend the FF arc.  While Red Zone is pretty good, and has an iconic feat as well, I'm not as that enamored of Johns as most, although that run was before he became "Geoff Johns™". :)

Here is a list of all his appearances. I labeled his team stuff

His notable team appearances in the modern age would be

Ultron Unlimited
Red Zone
The New Fantastic Four
New Avengers (Hickman)
Ultimates (Ewing)
The Crew

Is that #7 House of M crossover worth tracking down?

I mean, its neat but it was an alternate version of the character. It isn't "canon" per say.

For myself I'm the type that tries to find everything that has T'Challa making an appearance in some form doing something, it's not required but it's a fun read,
T'Challa drops some dope lines, puts hands all over people, and does some two steps ahead T'Challa sh*t. Again not needed but a fun read for sure imo

YEah, it would be like seeing a slightly more ruthless, amoral version of the character.

Hudlin's Panther was pretty Savage, he killed quite a few people actually
