"Night Shift" is the weakest entry so far. The best parts for me were the opening scene,

the general store setting, and the lead actress mainly because I thought she was cute.
Didn't care for the black guy in it at all because he felt stereotypical. Perhaps they were aiming for a Parker vibe for the black guy in this, but it didn't work.

And I didn't like that he was at odds with the lead character, because black people just have to be at odds right and the black male has to be a jerk to black women. Also, the ending didn't really work either for me. I wish perhaps they had done more with the alien's acid blood here. Being hit by that could be more horrific than hearing that the colony was being invaded. I also was iffy on the FX here. At times I felt the alien needed to be slicker, glistening, mainly when it bursts out.

The sound was recorded too low.  Not certain if that was intentional.

'Alien: Nightshift'  was very good.  The editing was a little rough around the edges but I enjoyed it.  :)

Yes, the female sista lead was attractive. Reminds me of Zoe Saldana or Naomie Harris.

About the original cast of Alien: Parker may have been an asshole to Ripley but he still respected her. Even saved her life from threats on a few occasions onboard the Nostromo.  Reading some of the feedback in the comments section tells me that folks aren't getting what's entertaining about the whole Alien series:  the cast of characters and how they get killed off one by one, as it is usually the jerks & assholes of the group who get taken out first.
I'm reading criticism that 'Nightshift' wasn't "...scary enough..."

Doesn't have to be.

An Alien story can be suspenseful.  It can be frightening. It can be chaotic. It can be mysterious.
An Alien story can be a lot of things and if the storytellers can provide a jumpscare or two, that's great but that's not really what the whole series is about.

At its core, Alien is a modern sci-fi retelling of another Hollywood classic, 'And Then There Were None' based on the novel by Agatha Christie.

A story that can be retold again & again with a modern cast of roles and characters.

'Alien: Nightshift' works.  Let's see if the next filmmaker can follow up with more ideas on the next one.

sidebar:  I haven't seen any of these shorts yet.  But a pet peeve of mine as a viewer is the trope where the monster/killer/demon/ghost wins at the end despite the efforts of the victims.  I'll hold off from watching any of these for now.

Nice.  8)

So far it's Ore, Specimen & Nightshift that tells stories to help expand the Alien Universe.

Just watched "Ore". It's the best one of the bunch so far. It has the largest cast, arguably the strongest acting, and felt the most complete as a story. I do have some quibbles.
Spoiler (click to reveal)
I wished that Hanks (the android) had been less emotional, especially in the scenes where she's watching the crew in danger, and by herself. I wish she had been speaking with concern but her expression was cold.
But for the most part I enjoyed this one a lot.

How I rank them:
Ore
Containment
Specimen
Night Shift

In 'Ore', how do you know there's an android in this episode?

If you look at it again,
Spoiler (click to reveal)
look at the scene that focuses on the computer screen. It says she's a Synthetic Safety Officer. Also, the black guy who's trying to get back in, asks if she's broken. Before that, I was wondering if she was an android, because something felt a bit off about her, but the short verifies that when it lingers on the screen.

If you look at it again,

Interesting.

Wanna know what gave away her identity, if indeed, she's an android...?

Look at the way she's standing every time the little doggie barks at the monitor.  Both hands restricted to the sides of her torso seems robotic & unnatural to me.

Makes me wonder if the dog is a android, too.

I've only seen this episode once 'cause it's very good one.
Let me see it again.
