Is The Black Panther Push Truly In Effect?
« on: June 06, 2012, 06:14:24 AM »
Yesterday I read an article about the secret 2014 Marvel movie being "Black Panther" and that this info, which comes from Latino Review (and also posted on SuperHeroHype), will be presented at this year's Comic Con.  (Here is the article: http://www.comicbookmovie.com/fansites/MarvelFreshman/news/?a=61031)

With that, my mind started racing right before I awoke this morning.  Despite the "job" T'challa had to take in "Doom"war, is Black Panther about to become a household name?  In my mind, this is how I connected the dots.

1. Liss tries valiantly to return T'challa/BP to prominence by making him The Baddest Man Alive.  Once you get passed the premise, Liss did a great job of washing the Maberry ick off of him and returning him back to a level of prominence.

2. The Invincible Iron-Man cartoon: A lot of people like to reference his kick-assness from the episodes that he has been in. That's a great sign. They made T'challa cooler, smarter and better than Tony Stark...in his own cartoon!

3. Avengers: Earth's Mightest Heroes: When the intro is all said and done, T'challa is standing tall with the other Avengers in the intro. Then when he is on the show, he gets some good screen time with some killer moves. I read a quote somewhere where a kid was like "I never heard of Black Panther before" but if he is anything like he is on A:EMH, then I definitely want to see this movie. Bravo Marvel for planting that seed in the younger generation.

4. Marvel reps who keep saying "Something big is coming for T'challa." We don't believe them because they've been saying this for ages. As long as it isn't a divorce then I'm good. But so far, we get them paired up against each other in AvX? Greaaaaat. Thanks.

5. Wakandan World Tour: Wakanda is about to be the star of the show in the upcoming issues of FF, Fantastic Four and Defenders! (Am I missing any other upcoming books?) Does this mean T'challa is the once and future king...again? Does this mean Hickman gets to go all super-writery on T'challa like he has done for FF and S.H.I.E.L.D.? "I hope so. I loved S.H.I.E.L.D. and FF made me a fan of the Fantastic Four universe. "It has Artie in it for crying out loud!"

6. And now this announcement. I don't want to get my hopes up just yet. I guess I have to wait and see what happens in the upcoming comic books and by that time...Comic Con will be here.

What say you?

I definitely think there is something up. Hickman read everything T'Challa researching him for a reason. he also said he couldn't talk about it until AVX was done.  I think Marvel knows they have a great cinematic-value character. I could see a true BP-Storm series. Him heading an Avengers team...a new FF 2nd team with he and Storm...

If this is true, then the next thing that they need to do is bring in Mr. Reggie as a producer-- Since Django is already heating up in hollywood, Marvel can use his insight on casting, plot/script, cinematography, etc...

The movie can turn out to be a death keel for the marriage.  Storm is the property of one movie studio and undoubtably BP is going to another.  That means another love interest for BP and movies are influencing comics nowadays.

The movie doesn't have to be the death knell of the marriage. They are two separate things. I think Marvel's neglect of the marriage already is setting up ending the marriage, and a movie or really, movie speculation, would have little to do with it. I just saw in a recent AvX book where Storm made the point to now call T'Challa her 'estranged husband' and I have to wonder if there is a cheerleader for the marriage behind-the-scenes? I doubt it. It's perhaps a lack of a story or will to just end the marriage right now. They don't want another One More Day mess.

However if a One More Day for T'Challa led a Brand New Day for Black Panther even I would grudgingly be on board with dissolving the marriage. Because I would trade a new, revitalized focus on T'Challa rather than letting him and Storm languish in an creatively underfed marriage.

I don't see a solo movie I could see T maybe  in Av 2. I think it is a book that is in the works and I can see Marvel focus on them as a couple as much as ending them if not more. Bu...who knows.

The plot thickens.
The Black Panther is about to show up in the facebook game, Marvel Avengers Alliance.
Woohoo!

update: I was on E! Online (via my phone) and someone asked if The Black Panther movie rumor was true.  The answer was: "It's SO False!"  Maybe Marvel is trying to keep it underwraps until they announce it at SDCC.

I live in North Carolina, about thirty minutes from where they are filming Iron Man 3.

Earlier today, Michael Jai White has been spotted in Wilmington today. Rumor around the way is that he is for a scene in IM3.

Could that scene possibly be of him being... T'challa?

Hmm, just hear that he's in town filming an Indy movie. So it may not be anything Marvel related at all. Still, it was kinda awesome thinking about it when first rumored. Hope I run into somewhere in wmWilmington, get him to autograph my Black Dynamite comic.

Yeah, I saw the same thing. But I don't believe them. TLR also scoop Thanos for the Avengers and this was the same response. I think your assessment is correct.

Even the new Avenger Assembled cartoon is going to have him join "later". Intresting indeed.
