I was his stand-in on the HBO movie, BOYCOTT.
He was a good dude.
I thought Mr. Cathey had a lot of gravitas. He was the best part of the Fantastic Four movie and he always put in work on House of Cards, adding humanity to a role that could've went sideways with a lesser actor.
That's pretty awesome you got that opportunity.
At the time, I wasn't aware of how awesome he was. You are correct. That gravitas is always there. I agree that he was the best part of Fantastic Four.
Every time I would see him on TV, I'd smile and say aloud that I worked with that dude.
Man, that BOYCOTT set was something else.
One of my all time favorite gigs...and I was just a stand in!
Terrence Howard was walking around between takes with his guitar. This is after The Best Man. I asked him if he really could play upside down and he started playing...which made a crowd appear.
Watching Jeffrey Wright play chess with various castmates (especially Terrence) was a delight. They were serious! (Stand ins and the main cast were able to sit with each other. It was all good. Once the extras started showing up, we were relegated to the "extras side of dining hall." Oh well, it was cool while it lasted.
Oh yeah, I can't forget listening to Whitman Mayo talk during one of our breaks between scenes. He was awesome and he HATED being called Grady. "Grady is a television character!" he said sternly to an extra who asked him a question. The dude was just excited to see one of his favorite tv characters in person.
Oh well...he learned that day!
