An interesting quote from Leo Strauss...
« on: August 07, 2006, 05:43:51 PM »
Leo Strauss, for those who don't know, was a German Jewish philosopher (though he preferred to think of himself as a scholar) who  taught at the University of Chicago and was the mentor to a man named Paul Wolfowitz. Wolfowitz is currently the President of the World Bank, and is also the author of the "Bush Doctrine"...while Karl Rove gets most of the press for being the man behind Bush, Wolfowitz is in fact more responsible for his foreign policy. He is, for all intents and purposes, the prophet of the neo-conservatives, including certain members of this  forum. Leo Strauss lived through the events of Nazi Germany, which makes this quote all the more interesting.

"the fact that the new right-wing Germany does not tolerate us says nothing against the principles of the right. To the contrary: only from the principles of the right, that is from fascist, authoritarian and imperial principles, is it possible with seemliness, that is, without resort to the ludicrous and despicable appeal to the droits imprescriptibles de l’homme to protest against the shabby abomination."

Yes, well...now we know where neo-conservatives are coming from. Apparently they revere the methods of the nazis, just not their goals.

Heh, that's no shock. Have you ever seen a BBC series called The Power of Nightmares? It basically charts the development of Neo-Conservatism and Islamic fundamentalism, and finds that, not only did they emerge at very much the same time, they have similar inspiration, attitudes, and have often supported eachother (it specifically examines how the neo-cons have exploited and exagerrated the rise of islamic terrorism for their own ends).

Actually, here are some Google video links, 1 hour each.
