A New Black Superhero Comic

All I could think when reading this was Ice Cube's song "No Vaseline," where at the beginning he keeps saying "Here's what they think about you..."

I won't buy it! If the writer is Cuban why aren't the characters more like the writer...hmmmmm ???
Because he doesn't want to write about his fellow cubans as pimps and whores.
This book is disgustingly stereotypical. What a A**HOLE! >:(

I have an idea....let's write a comic called Illegal Warriors or Raft Riders and make all the characters Cuban and see how absurd they think it is.  Yeah, that was harsh,  but damn...this shyt has got to stop.... I'm sick of black people being exploited by other races...remember that monopoly game a from a couple of years ago?  Hoodopoly or something created by an Asian guy... Just when you think it can't get any more ridiculous!

Return of the Super Pimps

70's Blaxplotation Nostalgia. With intent to parody as well.

(Shrug)

If you follow the independent publishers, you'll notice that this kind of thing is nothing new.

I think one of the Waynans Bros. recently did a book that was about in the same vein as this but even more offensive (toilet humor, gay jokes, etc.). The recent Return of Scarface book is about as bad as Superpimps, IMHO. Subtle is not a hallmark of the independent title.

I have to say i'm pretty indifferent to the whole thing. I'd be more likely to be pissed at a book like Barracuda from a large publisher than something like this; a small market book the content of which from the link provided doesn't seem that offensive. I'm more surprized that he was able to publish in color than anything else actually.

Meh.

This is a prime example of why White folks shouldn't try to write a 'black' comic. Just stick to writing comics that have Black characters in them. This makes me want to bash my head against the wall.

That is almost too lame to comment on. I agree with others though that Wayan's book was worse then this. Shawn and Marlon were never funny to me. Kennon and Damon are brilliant though.

His Bio...

"Growing up, Richard A. Hamilton always wanted to be a Superhero. When that didn’t work out, he decided to do the next best thing: write about Superheroes. Born and raised in Coral Gables, Florida, Richard graduated Summa Cum Laude from the University of Miami with a Bachelor of Science degree in Motion Pictures and Psychology and was inducted into Phi Beta Kappa (which is sort of like a Justice League for nerds). A fellow of the American Film Institute and an award-winning Screenwriter, Richard now lives with his wife in Los Feliz, California, where they try out new recipes and solve mysteries in their spare time."

Is he Cuban or is it the artist?

"2. IF YOU DON'T READ THE BOOK BUT ARE WILLING TO ARGUE ABOUT IT EITHER YOU ARE:
a) An idiot who doesn't know what he's talking about.
b) A liar who is a fan who can't admit it to himself or others."
