With the mighty Sunspot as the team muscle, it would take a threat the size of an Asgardian God invasion to make "BLACK" sweat. Now, if we had inducted Wimp...er, I mean War Machine, things might be very different. Very different indeed  ::)

The "Dire Wraiths"? ROM's enemies? Why?   ???

When did Sunspot get a power boost.  Last I saw the dude, he was a 98 pound weakling who for all his strength (which wasn't that great anyway) had zero invulnerability.

Dire Wraiths--are all dead.  The greatest enemy of BA is an already-defeated threat?  (A threat that was ultimately defeated by the New Warriors when they killed the mother of all Wraiths.)

That was Sunspot "then". Today's Sunspot is still able to convert solar energy (which is infinite) into great physical strength. Sunspot is able to fire bolts of solar energy at his foes and he has the power of independent flight. In other words, as I said before, Sunspot could squash War Machine flat and flip him like a penny  :D

Ooops  :-X Dire Wraiths all dead eh? Well, maybe BLACK's biggest foe can be the angry and restless ghosts of the Dire Wraiths  :)

okay...this has gone on 2 days too long.
let's finalize the team's lineup:

Falcon
Brother Voodoo
Goliath
Cage
Photon
Cecilia Reyes
Sunspot

Reserves
Black Panther
Storm

*******************************

Last chance to make a change.
I need everyone to comment.

*looks at participants*
I don't know if we can use BP & Storm.  Let's look at this as if we're really at Marvel.  Unless Mr. Hudlin says we can use BP & Storm, then we have to move on and get someone else.

Also, since Warren Ellis doesn't post here, Mr. Hudlin can let us know if we can steal Photon from NextWave.

;)

Cool?
cool.

Hmm, looking at this line-up; I can't help but think-weak.  Yeah, Pulsar is powerful.  Brother Vodoo gives us a mystic trip, but it needs Storm's power and BP's brain to be a real player.  On top of that, you need a physical power-house, someone stronger than either Cage or Goliath.  You need a Hulk/Thor level character.  We probably would have to create it, though.

How about Aegis or Rage?

too late.
we have our group.

we've moved on to Villains.

How about this?

After reading new avengers #23, maybe we can have Hydra as one of our main villains.
during the chaos of Civil War, they can start infiltratin' various black neighborHOODS, brainwashin' some folks to be down with Hydra and start buyin' up property (most of it is property destroyed during superhero/villain battles) and rebuildin' it in a regentrification process...of EVIL!!!

Huh? Huh?

Hydra is an overused, also-run organization that hasn't been impressive in the last 20 years, except during Millar's Wolverine run and then only because it was merged with the Hand.

You need a new villain and new villain team.

Hmmm, many many years ago, the Sons of Serpents were lead by two men--a black man and a white man--who tried to create a race war in the US.  Previous to that, Sons of the Serpent were lead by a Chinese General who was trying to cripple the US by instigating a war against immigrants.  You could play with that background.

Team villain-wise; using ol' skool, then it has to be a new version of the Masters of Evil.  Pull in several of the old players--Absorbing Man and Titania, Living Laser, and create/find a few more specifically opposed to the BA.

Big player?  Ulton?

Of course, one storyline that would have to be told:  Black Avengers met and fight against an alternate universe version of the Black JLA; of the same ilk as the Squadron Supreme is to the JLA.

I think you could revitalize HYDRA. Hell, Marvel has been trying for about a year or two now. Many of them truly believe that they are a better force for good and change in the world than SHIELD. I'd love to see HYDRA take advantage of the current climate of distrust and government wrongdoing to reach out to the underdogs of the world. Imagine, as Mastermynd suggested, HYDRA moving in on ghettos, and cleaning them up. Setting up literacy programs, building parks, helping families make rent...all without any pretense as to what religion you follow, skin color, or anything like that. Basically, HYDRA becomes an evil doppleganger of the NOI.

And then, after a few years, people from the ghetto slowly start to join HYDRA, to "give something back" to the organization and/or the community. And so the indoctrination begins. The HYDRA that scares me the most isn't the dues in green jumpsuits with laser guns. It's the plain clothes people who stab you in the back, and the last thing you hear before it all goes black is "Hail Hydra..."

That's never been done before. I like that approach to Hydra. I was going to suggest using some of other terrorist organization like the Secret Empire, Zodiac Cartel or A.I.M., but I'm definitely feeling your reworking of Hydra.

Isn't Sunfire a spy in the Hellfire Club?  That's another villain route.

I think to truly answer this question, you first need to decide what kind of team is BA.  The Avengers fight the big threats.  The New Warriors fought small threats.  The Defenders mirrored the Avengers, but were a less unified team.  The Fantastic Four are explorers and scientists, rarely deal with financial or personal crimes.  The X-men focus on human/mutant relations; mostly they focus on keeping mutants from making life worse for everyone.

So, what kind of team is BA?  The big guns against big threats or do they focus on finacial/personal crime or whatnot?

1. i love that Hydra storyline. Dayam.  You really freaked what I was thinking.  See?  We can colloborate and make good ideas come to life.  Let's run with it, Okay?

2. Kip...that's a great question.  I never really thought about it.  And thanks for that breakdown on the other teams.
Hmm... I don't know.

I think at first BLACK was Avengers, Jr.  They handle the big threats that Avengers were too busy to handle.
let me think on it.
what do you all think?

again, great question Kip.

Hmm, you know, I think the Secret Empire was doing a similar (but more overt) thing in rural America.  (We last saw this in the pages of Thunderbolts, original series.)  That could dovetail with your idea.

Something that hit me after originally reading this.  You know who would probably help the BA against this version of Hydra? Baron Von Strucker.  Remember, Hydra was created from the death keel for Nazi Germany by a leading Nazi.  I don't think Hydra was ever viewed as a Neo-nazi group, but it's roots are there.

I'm suirprised no one mentioned Sons of The Serpent, a well-known racist militant organization or the Hate Monger as potential baddies.

Never heard of that group before. What are they like?
Do you prefer a hero who will confirm your deepest fears? Or a hero who will inspire faith in humanity and goodness?

Never heard of that group before. What are they like?

Well, as I stated (when I mentioned them several days ago in a previous post), they were a group originally run by a Chinese General attempting to create unrest in America by making us "anti-immigrant".  A second version was run by a black man and a white man who attempted to create a race war.  I think they're have been other versions.  Now that I think about it, in MC2, one version was run by the Egyptian god of Death, Set.  Hmm, he might have also run them in the mainstream during the time leading up to Thunderstrike, but I can't remember for sure.

They, naturally, have a snake motiff.
