I remember the old Superman show from the fifties use to advertise Superman's comic at the end of their shows. When JLU was on Cartoon Network, they should've plugged their books.

I think this subject came up on the McDuffie board, and he simply said that the costs were too high. Hell, comic companies can't even afford advertising space in magazines, how are they gonna do a TV spot? :-[

ah, I dunno.. something doesn't make sense.. the revenue that comes in from toys, TV, movies, etc., should have helped them out a lot by now.. as mentioned, there's always late-night TV/cable.. and ads in comix-culture magazines only reach so many of the 'unconverted'.. where are the ads in People, newsweek, sports magazines, hell, even Sci-Fi/movie magazines?

Well, as I understand it, it comes down to how the huge companies are broken down into their own departments with their own budgets. DC get a cut of DVD sales and stuff, but it's mainly done by WB animation, who licence the Justice League brand, etc. The animation dept can afford to advertise in mainstream magazines and maybe on TV, but their money is handled totally differently to DC (and they probably bring in a lot more profit). That's why you will see adverts for JLU, Ultimate Avengers and big screen adaptations of comic properties in more places, but not for the comics themselves. The comic companies simply can't afford it, and can only hope that the better-promoted films etc from their properties get people to check out the comics (or more likely, tpb's).

If I got this right, it's
Twilight Comics
119 W Main
Collinsville, IL 62234

Since I shop at Bug's comics and Fantasy comics in St. Louis (Florissant to be precise), I don't pay much attention to the address, but I got this from the Yellow Pages.  I have been there a couple of times, though.

I think there are some laws now governing advertising products about a show during the show, but I'm not sure about that.

would you all be opposed to obvious product placement in teh story of comics. i think it could actually help some fring books. with the black panther being the only book with a black lead it would probably get a lot of adds targeting the black community. wouldnt more ad revenue for a book mean less cost to produce a book. or will those cost benefit marvel and not us the consumers?

we have had this in movies for years.

Thanks for all the trouble.  Now that mom's here, I go back infrequently, but if I do I know two places to get my fix.  Good looking out.

Marvel and DC use to do that back in the day, but it's rare nowadays to see an ad for a TV show in a comic book. Those days are gone.
