Killmonger

I did not give Priest's Panther a chance until issue 13 when the Killmonger arc started.  While others have pointed out its artistic and storytelling flaws, it still remains one of my favorite comic stories of all time.

The final fight alone was worth the seven issues, but I especially loved the global economics perspective Priest brought to the story.

Did anyone else enjoy the section where he laid out the impact of the child putting a quarter in an arcade machine (probably a dated reference even then, now that I think about it)?

hard currency v. speculative money ... ahhhh ... and it was not in the Financial Times or Wall Street Journal.

I wish there was a large circulation progressive economics publication.  Right now, I make due with sections of Black Enterprise (Financial empower and stock investing), the Participatory Economics essays on Znet, and the various EcoVillage/Cohousing sites around the world.

!new idea for outside of comics post!

In any case, it would be great to see Killmonger's incarnation under Reggie and some sense of Panther's economic power, especially since Reggie deals in relatively large dollar situations in real life.

wgreason, what you just cited was one of my favorite moments of the last series.

Killmonger, is a lot of fun being essentially a 'roided up Ivan Bosky. That converted his homeland into a African Epcot Center for no other reason that because he could.

Killmonger: "Gaze in awe, fools, at my monorail and space needle!"

Wakandans: "Uhhh, that's.... nice Killmonger."" You DO realized we've got a population of like 500, don't you?"

I absolutely LOVED that issue and let my younger brothers read it (which was a mistake of sorts,as I never saw that issue again).I would love to see Killmonger again, but this guy has such history with BP and is such a potent force that I wouldn't bank on seeing him until late this year or middle of next year...AT THE SOONEST.I mean,we have WORLD WAR HULK and then there are a few more secret major shakeups coming directly behind that.Or concurrent with it.

Always wondered what happened to Kilmonger after the Kasper arch ended.

My own personal way of tieing the Priest run into Reggie's is that Kilmonger and T'Challa were having some kind of people's vote poll before Reggie's first issue. Kilmonger lost, thus the crowning ceremony of T'Challa in issue 1. Knowing that if the people had the opportunity to vote for their preferred chieftain, T'Challa or himself, Kilmonger went through the same process done for himself when he was resurrected to bring back Klaw, months earlier.

But that's just me. Feel free to use Reggie!!!!

I'd really love it if somehow Erik convinced Wakanda to take a secular humanist turn, and the cult of the Black Panther suffered as a consequence.

It would be a fundamental shift in the power base of the nation.

Might not be the swiftest idea in the world when the Queen of the land is a goddess controlling the elemental forces that comprise your existence.Lightning storm in your cerebellum, anyone? That sure is a different spin on the old saying:"Right then,a LIGHT WENT ON IN HIS HEAD..."

yes, it WOULD be cool to see Killmonger show up in other people's books.
I'd like to see him become a pseudo-Lex Luthor character.

Yeah that's the way too go. Killmonger should be a threat for the entire MU not only Wakanda and T'Challa. He should be villanous and ruthless yet heroic at times but always complex.

do you think other writers (not named McDuffie or Kevin G.) would use Killmonger in the rest of the Marvel U... without making him a dumbazz loser?
