Rakim.  For me back in the day I was more into being hard than smooth.
I ventured into the courtyard followed by 52 brothers bruised battered and scarred but hard.

Did Kane even write his own stuff?  I always thought it was the Biz who supplied rhymes...

My choice would be Rakim because even to this day he has the same flow from back in the days. Kane ain't doing poorly by a long shot though, that dude can move...for a man his age.

yall know they took subliminal shots at each other constantly back in the day, right?  Sorta like LL and Jay now, in fact LL got a song with G Rap and 50 Cent where he makes it known about his feelings for Jay.

Rakim.  Kane is great; however, Rakim can only be challenged by the top 4 (Nas, Technique, Bis, Monch).

Now that's a hard one!

Not hard at all, Rakim has aged poorly, Kane is better

Aah, back to the classic JR. high debate.

It is really hard choosing between the 2. Rakim is beyond revolutionary in both flow and content when you look at what his peers were putting out in 86. While nursery rhyme flows about bally's and Lees and whatever else was dominant, R replaced it with a slow delivery filled with conscious content that had brothers going to the dictionary. Equally, when Kane came out in 88 he brought Metaphors to the forefront with the added bonus of having 2 distinct yet equally powerful flows, staccato and smooth.

Album for album the debate doesn't get any easier. Paid in Full and Raw are both classic albums. The respective follow ups, Follow The Leader and It's A Big Daddy Thing are again classics. The subsequent albums give Rakim the edge as he maintained his presence while Kane drfted into the playboy role.

While it is an official crime to ever go against a fellow Brooklynite, I will have to vote for Rakim.

P.S. It was KANE who wrote all those Biz Markie hits as well as Roxanne Shante's and some of the Juice Crew releases.

What subliminal shots? I never heard this before, what are the songs?

We were living for this confrontation back in my early teens so I find it hard to believe that it never came up.
