Good casting, if true.

Yep.  This is a good choice if the gossip can be believed.  Now lets hear who they are considering for Kirk.

Eh, I still have no desire to see this.  Shatner and Nimoy will always be Kirk and Spock in my mind.  I can't help but think this sounds like a bad WB/CW show.

I kind of agree but being a die hard Trekker, I am curious to see how they will try to reboot the franchise.  I thought the best way to go would be to set it a few hundred years after the period of the TNG, DS9 and Voyager (24th century).  Then create a whole new look with all new characters.

I think this movie is being made to attract new fans.  I don’t think they care too much about what the old fans think.  The writers said that it was going to have plenty of action.  It will probably be tailored made for youths with limited attention spans.

I do hope that it ends up being good.  If not I will just stick “Star Trek II: The Wrath of Kahn” in the DVD player and remember the old good days.

I'm still waiting for a return to the classic jumpers and two piece uniforms.

I can't take any more sterilized Trek...

I can see him as Spock...physically. ButI don't really know if he's much of an actor.

Nimoy to Reprise Spock Role in Trek Film
Jul 27, 7:30 AM EST

The Associated Press

SAN DIEGO -- Leonard Nimoy isn't through with Spock yet. The 76-year-old actor will don his famous pointy ears again to play the role in an upcoming "Star Trek" film due out Christmas 2008.

"This is really going to be a great movie. And I don't say things like that lightly," Nimoy told a gathering of 6,500 fans Thursday at Comic-Con, the nation's largest pop-culture convention.

He greeted the crowd with a Vulcan salute.

Nimoy was joined by the newly named young Spock, "Heroes" star Zachary Quinto, who bears an uncanny resemblance to Nimoy.

Both Spocks were introduced by the film's director and co-producer, J.J. Abrams.

"This is a series I loved as a kid," Abrams said, acknowledging that he was "more of a 'Star Wars' kid than a 'Star Trek' kid."

"This matters so much to so many people," he said. "I'm honored to be here and do this."

While the character of Captain Kirk has yet to be cast, Abrams said that William Shatner, who played the role in the original TV series, would likely also have a part in the film.

"It has to be worthy, of him and of you," Abrams told fans, adding that production is slated to begin in November.

One fan asked Nimoy what he thought of his "replacement."

"It was logical," the actor said dryly. He then closed with Spock's classic line: "Live long and prosper."

I'm interested in this movie.

Anton Yelchin I haven't seen before.  Can he act?

Zoe Saldana is too skinny.  I hate the casting of skinny chicks when it is inappropriate.
Did the casting people see the original Uhura?  Nichelle Nichols beautifully thick legs are legendary!
I guess Gene Rodenberry really was ahead of his time.

Zachary Quinto from Heroes is inspired casting for 'Spock'.

I hope this movie is well done.
The writers also wrote this years 'Transfomers' and, while I enjoyed the action, I had problems with the writing.
The list on IMDB of Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci writing doesn't give me confidence in the abilty to portray Rodenberry's positive humanistic vision of the future.

We shall see...

Excelsior!

She has no booty!
none whatsoever.
we (me and zoe) did a scene together in Drumline... (i was an extra) and she has NO body whatsoever.

I'm not feeling that.
Kerry Washington would be a bit better (man...she was a stunner in I THINK I LOVE MY WIFE...dayam!) choice.
